Really struggling and need your help with girl names to honor multiple people

We want meaningful names to honor loved ones but also are worried about our daughter being made fun of or being faced with people reacting to her name as an “ugly” name. Would like to honor [name]Gertrude[/name] and [name]Hilda[/name]. Also love the names [name]Orli[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]. Some thoughts would be:
[name]Gertie[/name] [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Orli[/name] [name]Gertrude[/name]
[name]Orli[/name] [name]Hilda[/name]
[name]Orli[/name] [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Orli[/name] [name]Gilda[/name] (combo of [name]Gertrude[/name] and [name]Hilda[/name])
Any thoughts at all would be SOOO appreciated! Feeling incredibly stuck.

I love [name]Hazel[/name]! I think it’s perfect. What about [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Gertrude[/name]? I also like the idea of [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Gilda[/name], which combines both family names for you. [name]Orli[/name] is cute… have you considered [name]Orla[/name]? I think [name]Orla[/name] [name]Gertrude[/name] would be pretty, and you could use the nn [name]Orli[/name]/[name]Orlie[/name]…

I’d use just [name]Hilda[/name], with the nn [name]Hildie[/name] (super cute). And [name]Greta[/name] for [name]Gertrude[/name]. [name]Orla[/name] and [name]Orlie[/name] are too close to oral/orally (trust me, every teenage boy will use this, i went to summer camp with some Orlies).

Cheers!

Personally, as a teenager, I would hate to me named [name]Gertrude[/name], or [name]Hilda[/name]. But that’s just me! Your daughter might like it/love it. Especially if she connects/identifies to the people she was named after.

I would use [name]Hazel[/name] as a first name, and then do a double middlename. So [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Gertrude[/name] [name]Orli[/name] for example.

Honouring relatives is nice but giving your daughter a unique name that matches her beauty is more important. Your daughters name should be one you are proud to say, not feel awkward about because it tries to revive the past. I would choose the first name [name]Hazel[/name], it’s vintage enough to suggest a connection to the “ugly-ish” names.
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Violet[/name] [name]Gilda[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Cora[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Gilda[/name] (I don’t mind this)
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Gertrude[/name]

Maybe 2 middles names is your answer to giving a beautiful name whilst keeping a small link to the past?

My mother is Hilde, so I’ve struggled with finding a good hounor name as well.
Everilda is my personal favourite, but I guess Mathilda might be more up your alley. There’s also lovely Norse Alvilda.
Greta or Grier/Greer are nice ways to honour Gertrude. Or Trudy. She has more charm than Gertrude. Trudy Mathilda? Orli Greta Mathilde (ma-TEEL, French version)? Everilda Greta Orli?

Greta Everilda would be my personal choice, but Hazel Mathilda Grier would also be wonderful.
In my family, you honour a person by useing the same first initial if the name itself is unappealing to you (that’s why I have two brothers and a cousin with B names after grandfather Bodvar, and why I want a little Bastian myself).
Hazel could easily honour Hilda if you want her to. ^^

I think [name]Gilda[/name] or [name]Hilda[/name]/[name]Hildi[/name] would adorable. And [name]Gertie[/name] is sweet, too. I think the important thing is that you love the name and that it means something to you. If YOU think it’s “ugly,” then just don’t do it. Not worth it.

Agree that [name]Gertrude[/name] & [name]Hilda[/name] are not that pretty; leave them as middles or like the idea of a gesture like same initial; [name]Hazel[/name] is lovely & [name]Greta[/name] too.

Never heard [name]Orli[/name] before, but it appeals. Having an unusual name means you spend your life explaining and spelling though…

Thank you so much to all who replied! Great ideas.

Sorry but when i heard [name]Orli[/name] it just sounds like Oily to me, a horrible name.

[name]Gertrude[/name] & [name]Hilda[/name] are great names i think, especially [name]Hilda[/name].

[name]Hilda[/name] [name]Gertrude[/name] is nice.

I know a girl name [name]Mathilda[/name] with [name]Hilda[/name] as her nn. [name]Do[/name] you like it?
If yes, then I would like to suggest [name]Mathilda[/name] [name]Hazel[/name] or [name]Mathilda[/name] [name]Gertrude[/name].
I just don’t like [name]Orli[/name].
My fav is [name]Hazel[/name], btw. It’s so sweet.

I like (With [name]Greta[/name] to honor [name]Gertrude[/name] and [name]Mathilda[/name]/[name]Matilda[/name] to honor [name]Hilda[/name]):
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Greta[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Mathilda[/name]/[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Mathilda[/name]/[name]Matilda[/name] [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] [name]Orli[/name]
[name]Mathilda[/name]/[name]Matilda[/name] [name]Orli[/name]

[name]Love[/name] [name]Mathilde[/name]/[name]Mathilda[/name]/[name]Matilda[/name] to honor [name]Hilda[/name]! Also [name]Hazel[/name] is your other best option. [name]Love[/name] the idea of the double mn with either of those fns! Agree that [name]Orli[/name] has too many problems…esp teasing-wise.

[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Mathilda[/name] [name]Gertrude[/name]

[name]Hazel[/name] is so pretty. I am jumping on the [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] bandwagon. You could use one of the “O” names–[name]Orla[/name]/[name]Ola[/name]/[name]Orli[/name]./etc.–as a mn with [name]Hazel[/name]. I don’t really like [name]Gertrude[/name] or [name]Hilda[/name] at all.
