What is the most uncommon and unique name you’ve come across, one that you either heard on a child and thought was cool, or one that you read in a name book/online/in a regular book and thought ‘I would love to meet a child with that name’ For me it’s definitely Kinnereth for a girl. I don’t really have one for a boy, although when I discovered [name]Zephyr[/name] a few years ago I definitely thought it was very unique, but since I’ve studied Greek history and mythology it doesn’t seem so unique anymore. What are your favourite uncommon names?
I met a woman yesterday name Tauby. [name]Haven[/name]'t been able to find any info on her name.
My bf also knew a girl named [name]Secora[/name], which I don’t mind at all.
My aunt’s name is Vonna, pronounced like [name]Donna[/name].
I knew a girl in high school whose name was Trillion. Her brother’s name was [name]Seven[/name]. I also have a female friend named Misako, nn Misa, a male friend named Luby, and a male cousin named Kainan.
[name]Edit[/name]: Also forgot another male friend; his name is Allio.
My high school had quite a few people with unique names:
Tipera (has brothers named Tallisen, Teth and [name]Tristan[/name])
Seretha her middle name is Uwana!
[name]Morven[/name] - found out much later that this is a real Welsh name like mine
and a [name]Taryn[/name] (also a Welsh name)
My name is [name]Glenys[/name]
[name]One[/name] of my besties was [name]Lorna[/name], which I’ve learned isn’t uncommon for an older generation, but it was for our age group
My brother knew twin girls named [name]Kashmir[/name] & [name]Kadence[/name]
My bff’s name is Senia, I always liked that.
I know someone who named her daughter [name]Ell[/name].cy (without the dot of course). Not a clue where she got that but I actually kinda think it’s pretty.
Some other uncommon names of people I know:
[name]Loren[/name] (male)
[name]Addison[/name] (male, around 20 years old)
[name]Waylon[/name] (I don’t know ANYONE else with this name)
[name]Bartow[/name] (goes by [name]Bart[/name])
Srijon
[name]Porsha[/name]
[name]Annissa[/name]
[name]Tiara[/name]
[name]Merlin[/name] (female)
[name]Kit[/name] (male)
[name]Jamie[/name] (male - I grew up only knowing females with this name)
[name]Matia[/name]
[name]Carmen[/name]
Zanea
Filsan
[name]Lynette[/name]
[name]Ryann[/name] (female)
[name]Kevyn[/name] (female)
[name]Randi[/name] (female)
[name]Colten[/name] (I list this because it’s recently become popular, but I don’t think there are many people around 20-25 with this name)
I went through my FB friends for that list… some aren’t super uncommon but I don’t know anyone else with the names and find them somewhat unique.
I wouldn’t say it’s the best name, but I work with someone named Toffey. I think that’s pretty unique.
A friend of ours named her daughter Eilee, which I love. But now I can’t use it! Haha.
I went to a sort of group job-interview once years ago and the girl I was partnered up with was named [name]Ziggy[/name]. I asked her if it was a nickname, and she said it was short of Ziglinda.
I have a friend whose name is Darranie…her parents decided they wanted to combine both their names for their baby…Her moms name is [name]Stephanie[/name] and her dad’s name is [name]Darin[/name]. I think it’s cool and unique and at least it makes some sort of sense. Cause when parents try to combine both their names for their child sometimes it works out well and sometimes it doesn’t.
Right now, the one coming to mind is Itxasne. I know an Itsasne and I think that’s really pretty, but her peers tend to call her “Txasne” so I looked up Itxasne to see if it’s a variant, and it is. I like them both, but Itxasne is a little easier to say, I think. It’s the Basque form of [name]Marina[/name].
It’s really uncommon, only about 500 total (both spellings) and only used in the Basque Country.
Tecumseh
Dovasary
Beowulf
Isolina
[name]Calixta[/name]
I’m really liking [name]Ianthe[/name] but seeing as i already have an [name]Ivy[/name] it’s out
Oh and Ulysees, don’t know if that counts as it’s so well known but not often used.
@niteowl13 - I know 2 [name]Morven[/name]'s and several [name]Lorna[/name]'s, i;m in [name]Scotland[/name] though so obviously more common here.
@jennipea382 - [name]Jamie[/name] is really common over here as well i know many males but only one girl.
I know an [name]India[/name] and a [name]Texas[/name], also a Cashala. Um, Trillion, I know one of those. And a lot of names that are common on this site and out in larger cities are just seriously odd where I live, in a very small farming community. So, names like [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Alexa[/name] are the odd ones out.
My name is also [name]Glynnis[/name], and my Mom also has a confusing name for people, it’s Jonice. Most people call her [name]Joe[/name]-neice, or call her [name]Janice[/name] by accident.
Neat. There have been a few people that family has known that were named after cities, states or countries. [name]One[/name] was named [name]Russia[/name], one was [name]Cuba[/name] and another is [name]Georgia[/name]. My sister had a penpal that was named [name]January[/name].
I love uncommon names.
