Rebuilding My Lists

DH and I had our first child, a little girl named [name_u]Scout[/name_u], in [name_u]December[/name_u]. Though we’re nowhere near ready to start trying for a second we have had a couple conversations about the fact that Very few of the names we discussed last time “go” with [name_u]Scout[/name_u].

While I don’t think sibling names need to be matchy, I do think they should feel like they make sense of siblings which unfortunately probably knocks out some longtime favorites like [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] for me and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] for him. With that in mind, I’d love to hear what berries think would make sense as [name_u]Scout[/name_u]'s sister.

Below is a list of some of my initial thoughts so any opinions on those names or other suggestions would be great.

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_u]Vale[/name_u]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f]
[name_u]Hero[/name_u]
[name_m]Lynx[/name_m]
[name_f]Indie[/name_f]
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u]
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]
[name_u]Memphis[/name_u]
[name_u]Raven[/name_u]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]
[name_f]Fawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]
[name_u]Kit[/name_u]

Thanks!

[name_u]Scout[/name_u] feels very literary to me, and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] actually give me a similar vibe. [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] nn [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] could definitely work.

From your longer list, I love [name_u]Hero[/name_u] (it’s literary, short, wordy and adventurous like [name_u]Scout[/name_u] + I think it’s a great name), [name_f]Indie[/name_f] (it has a modern, cool sort of vibe to it that I think fits) and [name_f]Juno[/name_f] (again, short, sweet, with a sort of outdoorsy, slightly tomboyish edge but still feminine).
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nola[/name_f] would be a nice way to bridge between the longer, more classic feeling of [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and the short, nicknamey feel of [name_u]Scout[/name_u] but I also like [name_f]Nola[/name_f] on it’s own.

Some other suggestions
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_f]Suri[/name_f]
[name_f]Libby[/name_f]
[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Cadence[/name_f]
[name_f]Siena[/name_f]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_u]Jordan[/name_u]
[name_u]Ever[/name_u]
[name_u]Keely[/name_u]
[name_f]Adella[/name_f]

Of your options, I think [name_u]Vale[/name_u], [name_f]Indie[/name_f], and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] work best. I also like the suggestion of [name_u]Piper[/name_u] for you–that might be my favorite. I would add [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], [name_u]Saylor[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Lark[/name_f]/[name_u]Larkin[/name_u], [name_u]Ember[/name_u], [name_u]Blaise[/name_u], [name_u]Blaine[/name_u], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], and [name_u]Paisley[/name_u].

With [name_u]Scout[/name_u] I like androgynous names like [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] or word names like [name_u]Vale[/name_u] and [name_f]Liberty[/name_f].

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] - this one feels very different to [name_u]Scout[/name_u], much more so than quirky [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or fun [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] - it’s long and feminine, a little frilly even
[name_u]Vale[/name_u] - this one doesn’t feel very name-y to me, and if I heard of a child named vale, I’d assume it to be a boy
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f] - scout and liberty are very word-y and patriotic together, making me think of Girl Scouts on the Fourth of [name_u]July[/name_u].
[name_u]Hero[/name_u] - very very difficult for any child or adult to live up to, I can’t imagine the ridicule she may have to endure in her teenage years
[name_m]Lynx[/name_m] - eh, not for me, I feel like there are nicer unusual cool names out there
[name_f]Indie[/name_f] - I like this one as a sister to scout, they’d make for a fun & quirky sibset
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] - i don’t like this one personally but it’s nice as s sister to scout, together they do sound very masculine unisex to me (while indie & scout would be very feminine for example)
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] - is a male name
[name_u]Memphis[/name_u] - also feels quite masculine to me, also quite different to scout; scout has this quirky, sweet vintage vibe to me while [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] is all modern country music
[name_u]Raven[/name_u] - it’s a cool animal and word but it’s also used a lot as a symbol for negative things in literature, pop culture, etc.
[name_f]Nola[/name_f] - I like the sound and it’s cute with scout (I’d also wonder if you have a connection to new Orleans)
[name_f]Fawn[/name_f] - i like it more than lynx but it also feels very 2014 celebrity boho name
[name_f]Juno[/name_f] - wonderful with scout
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] - similar to lynx or [name_u]Memphis[/name_u], this would create a very modern, trendy vibe; I don’t love it but prefer it to the other two mentioned
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] - also feels very masculine to me (I like [name_f]Kat[/name_f] as an alternative)

I actually think [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] goes very well with [name_u]Scout[/name_u], and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] you could always use in the middle. From the list, I think [name_f]Indie[/name_f], [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], [name_u]Memphis[/name_u], [name_f]Nola[/name_f], and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] would all work with [name_u]Scout[/name_u], especially [name_f]Indie[/name_f] and [name_u]Hollis[/name_u]! [name_f]Indie[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] are both great if you would consider using [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] as a middle.

Like on your boys list - I still love [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] with [name_u]Scout[/name_u]. [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f], [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] and [name_u]Ever[/name_u] all really seem to “go” for me.

I like [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_f]Liberty[/name_f], [name_u]Vale[/name_u], & [name_f]Indie[/name_f] with [name_u]Scout[/name_u]. Adorable name btw

This is a fun challenge.

[name_u]Scout[/name_u] might best be paired with a name which isn’t too frilly. These are some of my favorite kind of names. I like a girl’s name that also works for a woman who runs a boardroom or a battle ship, because who knows, your daughter might!

Some ideas:
[name_u]Alexis[/name_u]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]
[name_f]Frida[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Maire[/name_f]
[name_f]Nova[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Petra[/name_f]
[name_f]Pilar[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u]
[name_f]Tilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Venus[/name_f]

What about:

[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]India[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Lara[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Sibyl[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Wendy[/name_f]
[name_f]Zara[/name_f]

I agree that Georgia works with Scout since it is a place name to me and Scout is a word name. From your list I think Magnolia, Juno, and Kit work well–all kind of quirky and vintage. I also like Piper and Wren mentioned by pps.

@greyblue - thanks for looking at the girl’s list as well! It’s interesting that you think other “literary” type names would work with [name_u]Scout[/name_u]. While it’s obviously literary, to me the androgyny of it make it hard to pair with such obviously classic, feminine names… but I might be wrong there. Time to reconsider! As for your feedback, you’ve hit on several of my favorites [name_u]Hero[/name_u] and [name_f]Indie[/name_f] are two of my favorite possibilities and I think [name_f]Juno[/name_f] could work quite well. Several of your suggestions ([name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f], [name_u]Ever[/name_u], [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Mila[/name_f]) were on our list last time. I think [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] could work best, but we scratched it off the list because of the nn [name_f]Tammy[/name_f].

@erin beth - thanks for the feedback! All of your suggestions except [name_u]Saylor[/name_u] and [name_u]Paisley[/name_u] were on our list last time so I think you’re on the right track!

@wandsworth - I tend to agree with you that androgynous or word names tend to “go” the best

@opheliaflora - thank you for providing feedback for each name! I think you raised some really good points I hadn’t considered before.

@eagleeyes - thank you! I’m really glad [name_f]Indie[/name_f] and [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] are seeing so much love. They’re two of my favorites.

@codiwomple - I love [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] too :slight_smile:

@shelbylynn01 - thank you!

@ruanne - thanks! Several you mentioned ([name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], & [name_f]Petra[/name_f]) made it on our list last time.

@neeea - thank you! [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], [name_f]India[/name_f], [name_f]Mavis[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], and [name_f]Zara[/name_f] were all on our list last time!

@sarah1800 - I’m glad you think [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] could work; it’s a long-time love and I just adore the spunkiness of it. I think you nailed it when you said Quirky, that’s kind of what I’m going for. From your suggestions, we had previously considered [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] goes well as [name_u]Scout[/name_u]'s sister.

From your list I would pick [name_f]Juno[/name_f] or [name_u]Raven[/name_u] for [name_u]Scout[/name_u]'s sister. I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] but find it too similar sounding.
