My favorite combos are [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m], and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]. If you plan to have one more child and feel sure you may want to use a ‘[name_u]Nic[/name_u]’ name, then I’d say eliminate [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m]. Flow-wise it’s very similar to [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] anyway, so if you love the flow you have that covered.
I voted for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m], but with such meaningful choices, I don’t think you can go wrong.
As a fellow Led Mis fan, I picked [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m]. I’d also suggest
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Victor[/name_m] or [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] on the [name_u]Les[/name_u] Mis note. [name_m]Victor[/name_m] dates back to Saints names, symbolizing [name_m]Christ[/name_m]'s victory over death (as you mentioned catholicism was a contributory factor in names for you!)
I really like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Victor[/name_m] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]!
That’s true. I really do want to use either [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] or [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] as a first name, so it does make sense to go with [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] instead. (But Nicander as a nickname is just so perfect… Oh, well, at least I’ve had fun using it as the in-utero nickname!) Thank you for your thoughts.
I do like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], but that’s the name of one of the bad guys (cars?) in Cars 2. ([name_m]Victor[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is another one of the bad cars, too, if I remember correctly.) My sister’s son loves those movies, and we usually end up watching them whenever I babysit him, so I couldn’t possibly use that combo. Good suggestion, though! Thanks!
Any other thoughts? At this point, I think we’re leading toward [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m], [name_m]Marius[/name_m], or [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]. I’m so hot and cold on [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m], and as much as I love [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m], I don’t think I want to give up the possibility of a [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] or [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] just yet.
My favourite is probably [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Duncan[/name_m] - [name_m]Duncan[/name_m], from [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]'s Macbeth, appealing to the literary side but there’s also a Scottish saint of the same name too.
Thanks. A lot of those names were actually on our preliminary list, but at this point, we’re not really looking to add to the list (unless something manages to really wow us). [name_m]Just[/name_m] trying to pick a favorite from the finalists! (Although you reminded me that I really did like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Duncan[/name_m] at one point… I forgot why we took it off the list. Oh, well, I don’t like it over the finalist names, so I guess it doesn’t really matter.)
First of all, I really like all of your names and the options you have and I think the names on your revised middles for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] all sound a bit better to my ear than [name_m]Silvan[/name_m] (which I love as a name on its own too!). Personally, I think only [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] and [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] really match the oomph of your other children’s middles, with [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] perhaps matching the best to my ear. To top this, the description of why you like [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] and [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] (well, and [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]) also seem the most meaningful to me - although I may be off base with this.
If it’s now between [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m], [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], and [name_m]Marius[/name_m], I would vote [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]. [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] and [name_m]Marius[/name_m] are lovely, but not nearly as grand as [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] - or [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], [name_f]Theophania[/name_f], and [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] for that matter. Between [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] and [name_m]Marius[/name_m] specifically, [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] has a far better connection with [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]. [name_u]Les[/name_u] Mis is great, but seems less specific to you than the biblical tale (again, I could be incorrect).
Thank you! I agree that [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] probably does match the “oomph” of [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] best. It’s more meaningful to my husband than to me, but I like the idea of letting him have more of a say this time anyway since [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] were my choices.
Thanks!
Looks like [name_m]Marius[/name_m] is the clear winner of the poll, but I’m just not sure… [name_m]Silvan[/name_m] won the last poll I made, but I ended up being unhappy with that choice, so I don’t want to make the same mistake this time. I think I’m really leaning toward either [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] or [name_m]Gregory[/name_m].
I love how Classical Greek “[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]” is! Definitely the name of a world traveler. Alternatively, what about one of the main character’s names from [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]? [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Bloom, [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Daedalus[/name_m] are all fantastic!
I honestly don’t think any of them are as good as [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Silvan[/name_m] (which is amazing!), but if I had to pick one it would be [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m].
I know you’ve closed the poll, but I hope you’ll permit me to chime in with my 2 cents
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] - I think they’re all fantastic! However, I agree that if it’ll limit your future favourite names, both of which are perfect with the lovely nn [name_u]Nico[/name_u], I’d drop [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m] from consideration. I think Nicander is a sweet nickname with a lovely story, but I’m not sure how long it wuld stick [name_m]IRL[/name_m] anyway.
I honestly can’t pick between the final two. On sound alone, [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] has the edge for me. Strong, soft, grounded yet exotic - I think it’s fabulous! However, [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] is such an awesome, underused name and seems to match your other son’s middle better. Either would be so stunning… all things considered, I think my vote would have gone to [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m].
Best of luck picking, I’m really looking forward to reading your birth announcement and finding out what you went with!
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]. I am a bit biased as that is my fathers name and he is my hero. Besides that, I absolutely love all of the meaning that [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] holds for you! I know sibsets are important but don’t worry about them too much when naming this baby. He or she deserves a name ALL their own even if the middle isn’t as “grand” as the others. Although, a saints name to me seems extremely grand!
Another idea I had would be to use [name_m]Forest[/name_m] because of the meaning of [name_m]Silvan[/name_m]. Maybe you don’t like nature/word names though.
Oh, [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]! We actually both loved that combo during my last pregnancy before we found out we were having a girl, but I struck it from the list because I didn’t like how similar the beginnings of [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] and [name_f]Theophania[/name_f] were and wasn’t sure if I wanted to give up [name_f]Theophania[/name_f] just then. However, I don’t think we need to worry about that concern anymore since if this one is a boy and our last is a girl, we would probably still go with [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] and not [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Theophania[/name_f]. (Well, unless my last pregnancy results in twins…) Thank you for remind me of that one! [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] is definitely going back on the list.
You certainly weren’t the only one who loved [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Silvan[/name_m], according to the last poll! Thanks for your thoughts.
I’m definitely still interested in hearing anybody’s two cents! It’s such a tough decision, and I’m glad to hear that you would have voted for [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] since it only got four votes.
Yeah, I’m really trying to convince myself that in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t really matter if the middle names all go together. I think [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] sounds rather grand anyway!
I do like some nature/word names, but [name_m]Forest[/name_m] isn’t really one of them. Thank you for the suggestion, though!
Okay, so [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] is definitely back in the mix, along with [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] and [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]. I think I’ll start a new poll tomorrow, but right now, I need some sleep!
