I’m looking for a name I can short to “[name_u]Red[/name_u]”, besides [name_m]Redmond[/name_m] and [name_m]Redford[/name_m].
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Red[/name_u] works as a full name? I wouldn’t used it as first name, more like second middle name, something like: [name_m]Archie[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Red[/name_u] or [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Red[/name_u], both with nn [name_u]Red[/name_u]. I mean, [name_u]Grey[/name_u], [name_u]Blue[/name_u], [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]… are names, what about [name_u]Red[/name_u]?
I’m not a fan of using the middle name as the nn because if you’re going to call him [name_u]Red[/name_u] most of the time I think it makes more sense to actually just name him [name_u]Red[/name_u]. I quite like the sound of the name [name_u]Red[/name_u], though I’ve only ever considered it for a pet (it was a very close call for our cat, but as she was pure black we thought it might be a little odd). That being said, I think it could work as a full first name.
Other suggestions:
[name_m]Evered[/name_m]
Any [name_m]Fred[/name_m] name: [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] etc.
[name_m]Jared[/name_m]
[name_m]Redding[/name_m]
I really like [name_m]Jared[/name_m], but with this name I much prefer the nn [name_m]Jed[/name_m] (which I adore). Anyway, I think [name_u]Red[/name_u] would be more like a pet name instead of a nickname if [name_m]Jared[/name_m] or any “red” name were the first name. If the name were [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] he would be [name_m]Fred[/name_m]/[name_u]Freddie[/name_u]/[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] for everybody, althought I would call him [name_u]Red[/name_u] sometimes.
But if [name_u]Red[/name_u] were middle name, there would be more chances to be called [name_u]Red[/name_u] if he wanted.
With something like [name_u]Red[/name_u], I don’t think you need a connection to the given name. It’s a pet name along the lines of [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] and [name_u]Sonny[/name_u].
[name_u]Clancy[/name_u], [name_m]Flanagan[/name_m], [name_u]Flannery[/name_u], [name_m]Radcliff[/name_m], [name_u]Raleigh[/name_u], [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m], [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], [name_m]Russell[/name_m], and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] have meanings related to red. You could also use [name_f]Garnet[/name_f], or [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] (sounds similar to [name_m]Felix[/name_m], which is on your list), which means dark red.
@southern.maple : I know, but I’d like some kind of connection, plus I really want to honor a relative with “[name_u]Red[/name_u]”.
@stellarevolution: I love your suggestions, specially [name_u]Rory[/name_u] (that was on my list), [name_m]Russell[/name_m] and [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]. Both [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_m]Russell[/name_m] are related to redheads, and I want something more about the color itself. I really like [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], its meaning and what the creature represents. I’m going to think about it. Thanks!
Redmar or Redmer
Derived from Old High [name_m]German[/name_m] rât “counsel” combined with Old High [name_m]German[/name_m] mâri “famous.”
[name_m]RADCLIFF[/name_m] like this one, and was also suggested by pp
From a surname which was derived from a place name meaning “red cliff” in Old English.
[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] is gorgeous and leaves plenty of room for other nn for his class mates at school if [name_u]Red[/name_u] becomes more a family name.
Otherwise what about names that mean [name_u]Red[/name_u] so it becomes a clever word association nn such as [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] or [name_f]Claret[/name_f].
@phloxie : Redmar is quite interesting. I associated [name_m]Radcliff[/name_m] to the HP actor, so it’s a name I can’t use.
@pacifica : I like [name_m]Alfred[/name_m], and [name_u]Alfie[/name_u]. But there’s something about this name that bothers me.
@a_r : I didn’t knoe [name_m]Laredo[/name_m] could work as a name! It’s funny, because it’s a very important place to me. I also like [name_m]Aldred[/name_m] and Elred.
@flowerbaby : yep, I think [name_m]Jared[/name_m] is also my top pick.
@anna frances byrne : I thought about [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], it means dark red and I love it. [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] is lovely, but I’d use it on a girl. [name_f]Claret[/name_f] is the name of a school nearby my house hahaha
