Reed, Reid, Reeve, or Reece?

We have just found out our second is a boy! He will join brother [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. I’m really liking the “Re” names, specifically [name_u]Reid[/name_u] or [name_u]Reed[/name_u], [name_u]Reeve[/name_u], and [name_u]Reece[/name_u]. [name_u]Reece[/name_u] is a family name so we would spell it that way rather than [name_u]Reese[/name_u] or [name_u]Rhys[/name_u].

Which one is your favorite? Thoughts on [name_u]Reid[/name_u] vs. [name_u]Reed[/name_u] spellings?

With [name_m]Luke[/name_m], I like [name_u]Reid[/name_u]/[name_u]Reed[/name_u] the best. I actually don’t have a preference on spelling but would probably use [name_u]Reid[/name_u] as it looks more substantial to me. I know a baby [name_m]Reef[/name_m] which would match your love of Re names, but I don’t think [name_m]Reef[/name_m] goes well with [name_m]Luke[/name_m].

I like [name_u]Reid[/name_u] better. [name_u]Reed[/name_u] makes me think of a lake filled with reeds because of the plant connection. I prefer [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] to [name_u]Reece[/name_u]. I know it’s a family name, but [name_u]Reece[/name_u] looks trendy and reminds me of [name_u]Reese[/name_u]'s pieces. There’s nothing wrong with using [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] instead because it’s the same name. I think the spelling [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] would complement [name_m]Luke[/name_m] better.

I prefer [name_u]Reed[/name_u] to [name_u]Reece[/name_u] and I think it sounds better with [name_m]Luke[/name_m], but since [name_u]Reece[/name_u] is a family name that has some weight as well. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are nice names.

[name_m]Luke[/name_m] & [name_u]Reed[/name_u] go so well together, that the others had no chance : ) And definitely the [name_u]Reed[/name_u] spelling, because I love the plant connection (and [name_u]Reid[/name_u] looks so unbalanced to me).

is my favorite, although [name_u]Reed[/name_u] is nice too.

[name_u]Reeve[/name_u] reminds me of [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_u]Reeve[/name_u], which makes me sad.

[name_u]Reece[/name_u] reminds me of Witherspoon.

My first choice would be [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] if that were an option, but second favorite is [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. I guess I don’t love the double e’s.

I honestly like all three with [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. I prefer the [name_u]Reid[/name_u] spelling. I also highly prefer the [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] spelling for boys. I feel you are still honoring the family with this spelling. I have seen [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and [name_u]Reece[/name_u] on several girls.

[name_u]Reese[/name_u] is the brand of candies that makes pieces and peanut butter cups (at least in the states). A previous poster mixed these up.

I think my top pick would be [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], second choice would be [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]Reid[/name_u].

I love all the choices, I also grappled with the same [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]/[name_u]Reece[/name_u] or [name_u]Reid[/name_u]/[name_u]Reed[/name_u] thing. I decided to pick a name and then the spelling. I ended up with [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]. I love [name_u]Reid[/name_u] and would use this versus [name_u]Reed[/name_u], but I felt like [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] had a softer feel and [name_u]Reid[/name_u] was a harder sound to my ears. I also like that all my boys have 4 letters in their names, so [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] or [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]Reid[/name_u] really work great. I think [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] both have a nice softer feel.

Being called “reed-like” is another term for skinny so I much prefer the [name_u]Reid[/name_u] spelling. I think [name_u]Reid[/name_u] goes well with [name_m]Luke[/name_m].
