Refreshing Birth Announcement : Like a Glass of Ice-Cold Water to the Face!

I can’t stop thinking of the birth announcement I saw earlier today in the paper:

A baby girl named : [name]Gloria[/name]

I’m too lazy to go find the announcement to report what the middle name was, but it wasn’t as memorable as [name]Gloria[/name], that’s for sure.

Here’s the thing. Is [name]Gloria[/name] my style? No. Would I name a baby [name]Gloria[/name]? Probably not. [name]Do[/name] I respect the parents for doing so? HECK YES!

[name]One[/name] of the things I am struck by is how (in my opinion) we name children according to OUR generational perspective – perhaps [name]Gloria[/name] seems fusty or 70s or [name]Archie[/name] Bunker, etc. We fail to look at the names through the eyes of our children’s generation. [name]Gloria[/name], in that respect, is so fresh, so under-utilized for a child born today.

[name]Just[/name] imagine [name]Gloria[/name] chasing all those little Avas and Jaydens on the playground in five short years. Her name. It’s like a gift.

I think it is fantastic. Very refreshing.

Sigh.

I’m reminded of the siblings I overheard on the bus yesterday, Viking and Frøya. Amazing and so unexpected! Viking had blonde curls ^^ (Viking is a legit Old Norse name, just extremely obscure, perhaps for obvious reasons!)

Yeah it makes me smile when I see some of the older, less trendy, names in the announcements. I tire of seeing endless batches of Jaydens, Braydens, Adelyns, and Madisons.

I love it. It’s [name]Maggie[/name] Gyllenhaal & [name]Peter[/name] Saarsgard’s daughter’s name & a character on Tv show Modern Family so I think it’s not that far off the radar. And [name]Glory[/name] isn’t far from [name]Grace[/name]…and it was Js song for [name]Blue[/name] [name]Ivy[/name].

It’s refreshing but I really think [name]Ava[/name] is just as lovely.

Yes, [name]Ava[/name] was a poor choice for me to partner with [name]Jayden[/name] “running on the playground”. I love [name]Ava[/name]. I am sorry it has become so popular.

My first thought was, [name]Gloria[/name] is really nms but I can see what you mean about it being refreshing. But now, the more I say it, the more I really like it.

Hmmm…I think there’s a lot of ground between [name]Jayden[/name] and [name]Gloria[/name], frankly. [name]Gloria[/name] falls on the ugly side of clunky, to my mind, I’m afraid.
