Regan

WDYT I say it as REE-gan, any sister ideas? I am not too thrilled about the negative connections [King Lear/The Exorcist especially I HATE that movie, but they pronounce it as raygan in it], but I like the name anyways.

ETA: also love as a boy name.

Well, in general i don’t really like [name]Reagan[/name] on a girl ( and [name]Regan[/name] is just [name]Reagan[/name] without the A and it’s suppose to be said as [name]Reagan[/name]) but I’ve had a girl named [name]Reagann[/name] in my group lately nn Roo and it’s growing on me.

I think the way you’re saying it is a little strange, TBH, because I know it’s suppose to be ray-gan, like in [name]King[/name] Lear, and my second guess would have been reg-en. I prefer ray-gan honestly as ree-gan sounds a little whiney to me. I hate the character so that turns me off the name too.

Sorry! [name]Hope[/name] I didn’t offend.

I think [name]Regan[/name]/[name]Reagan[/name] is (pronounced [name]Ray[/name]-gan) is really gaining popularity. I know two babies born this year with that name (both girls) and one boy born last year. I actually really like it with the pronunciation “[name]Ree[/name]-gan” but almost everyone who sees the name will pronounce it “[name]Ray[/name]-gan”. If you really like it-maybe look for an alternative spelling—like Rhegan or [name]Rheagan[/name]? Good luck!

I think you should use a different spelling. [name]Reegan[/name] would get the pronunciation you want.

I agree that [name]Reegan[/name] would get you the pronunciation you want. Another option you could consider is using [name]Teagan[/name]. Very close in sound, not so many bad connotations, and it’s easily recognizable.

I have always ADORED this name. People thought I was so weird for liking it & not many people I know have heard of it before but I love it! Thanks for being on board with it too! I love it for a girl. It’s perfect. I pronounce it the same way you do. Sibling ideas that come to mind would [name]Regan[/name] & [name]Sawyer[/name] (girls). I love this combo! I also like [name]Regan[/name] & [name]Flannery[/name]. For a boy sibling, I like [name]Regan[/name] & [name]Parker[/name] and [name]Regan[/name] & [name]Callum[/name].

Not a fan at all, sorry. The negative associations are just too strong, and it sounds way too masculine, [name]IMO[/name].

[name]LOve[/name] it. I am not totally in love with your pronunciation because of the President and thats the most popular - that’s like saying I wanna name my Child [name]Obama[/name] but pronounce it Obay-ma - it just sounds strange. BUT I do love [name]Reagan[/name]…I think it’s such a great name.

I love - [name]Reagan[/name] [name]Shellaine[/name]…so pretty!

Regan is indeed pronounced REE-gun as in the Shakespeare play.

I think it’s a beautiful name, if you can get past people pronouncing and spelling it incorrectly a lot.

I’ve always thought it was pronounced [name]Ree[/name]-gun, I studied English Literature and we did [name]King[/name] [name]Lear[/name] and always pronounced it that way, so I wouldn’t changed how you spell it.

I’ve seen twin boys called [name]Ellis[/name] and [name]Regan[/name] and I’ve liked the name ever since (This was before studying Lear though.) I know it’s had a bad rep because of Lear but if you like it then you should definitely use it!

I was completely unaware this was suppose to be pronounce [name]Ree[/name]-gan. When we studied [name]King[/name] Lear in my English Renaissance class my teacher pronounced it like [name]Reagan[/name] and my other English Lit class pronounced it [name]Reagan[/name] too…hmm… interesting.

I think you could get away with it, I just am sure most people won’t say ree-gan first, but if you don’t mind correcting people, go for it. I forgot to put sibling names in my last post so here some (unisex would be best with a [name]Regan[/name] I think)

For girls:

[name]Emerson[/name]
[name]Madison[/name]
[name]Morgan[/name]
[name]Riley[/name]
[name]Peyton[/name]
[name]Parker[/name]
[name]Avery[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Marley[/name]

For boys:

[name]Riley[/name]
[name]Hudson[/name]
[name]Dawson[/name]
[name]Weston[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]

It’s okay; that just goes to show how widespread the “[name]Reagan[/name]” mispronunciation is. I wonder if this pronunciation of [name]Regan[/name] was at all common before The Exorcist came out. This is actually my biggest concern with this name - I love it and don’t mind the association with a literary bad girl, but I imagine I might tire quickly of people pronouncing it that way and possibly asking if it’s for [name]Ronald[/name] [name]Reagan[/name].

[name]Regan[/name] is related to [name]Regina[/name] and many other names that mean “queen,” and that plus the [name]Shakespeare[/name] character make it hard to picture on a boy. I’d prefer [name]Reginald[/name] as an alternative for a boy - or possibly [name]Reagan[/name] as a surname-name, if you don’t live in the US or can stand the [name]Ronald[/name] association.
