Over the past week I have started to love the name [name_u]Regan[/name_u] on a boy. I know the name is more common for girls in the US but in Australia I know three male [name_u]Regan[/name_u]'s and only one girl with the name (and judging from her sisters names they were going for a unisex sibset). Whats everyones opinions on [name_u]Regan[/name_u]: too unisex? too feminine? better spelt [name_u]Reagan[/name_u]? too dated (every [name_u]Regan[/name_u] I know was born between 1999 and 2005)? Or something else entirely?
I’m from South Australia, and I would automatically assume it was a boy’s name. It makes a huge difference where you live! I like it!
Thank you. Anyone else?
I dislike it because it’s a surname-name, is usually given by Republican parents here in the US in honor of [name_m]Ronald[/name_m] [name_u]Reagan[/name_u], and it sounds like [name_f]Megan[/name_f] (which has always been one of my least favorite names). But I do at least think it’s better on boys than girls.
I pronounce [name_u]Regan[/name_u] and [name_u]Reagan[/name_u] differently, [name_u]Regan[/name_u] ([name_f]REE[/name_f]-gən) and [name_u]Reagan[/name_u] ([name_u]RAY[/name_u]-gən). I feel neutral about both but prefer [name_u]Reagan[/name_u]. I do not feel they are feminine. Behind the Name states that [name_u]Regan[/name_u] is a females name and that [name_u]Reagan[/name_u] is unisex. Maybe a bit dated but I do not always see that as a negative.
I had a girl regan and a boys regan in my class in school. Im not a fan, as it is the name of an American president that i wouldnt want my kid to be associatied with. But in Australia thats not a problem i guess. As a name it is cute.
I’m American. I know a female [name_u]Regan[/name_u] who was born in 1980 & a little girl [name_u]Regan[/name_u] born in 2010.
The more I think about it, the more I like it on a boy.
As an [name_f]Alison[/name_f] with a single “l” I’m always a fan of the most common spelling. [name_u]Allison[/name_u] is much more common & I’m tired of always spelling it. Thanks Mom & Dad!
I think it’s fine as a unisex name.
I agree the president thing might be a turnoff in [name_u]America[/name_u] but I know very little about [name_m]Ronald[/name_m] [name_u]Reagan[/name_u] I don’t think it’s a big deal here. @kristin I actually like the fact that it’s a surname name 50% of my favourite boys names are surnames so it’s not a negative to me.
Anyone else?
