Here are my thoughts on those that stand out to me:
[name]Henry[/name] [name]John[/name]- possibly my favorite of your combinations. I think [name]Noah[/name], [name]James[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] sound great as a set of brothers and it is even cuter when you factor in sister [name]Lucy[/name]. (I really like [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name] as a sibset). Plus, I think [name]Henry[/name] is a fantastic name.

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]John[/name]- another of my favorites. I think [name]Theodore[/name] [name]John[/name] is a great name with a lovely nn. The length (or ‘clunkiness’) of [name]Theodore[/name] doesn’t put me off at all. In fact, I really like it. It does sound longer than your other children’s names but since I imagine he will mostly be called [name]Theo[/name], I think the flow would be fine.

[name]Simon[/name] [name]John[/name]- I also really like [name]Simon[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]James[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name] as a sibset. This is probably my favorite as far as matching their names goes, but [name]Simon[/name] [name]John[/name] is not my favorite as a stand-alone name of your choices if that makes sense. I really don’t think it is too British at all.

[name]Luke[/name] [name]John[/name]- Another great sibset, but I don’t like the name [name]Luke[/name] [name]John[/name] on its own as much as some of your other choices. Being only one syllable, [name]Luke[/name] feels quite short to pair with a one syllable middle name. It feels clipped to me somehow. I guess it would depend on how it flows with your last name.

As for your worry about [name]Peter[/name] becoming [name]Pete[/name]… There are 3 Peters in my family. [name]One[/name] (married in), elected to go by [name]Pete[/name] to differentiate himself, but the other two are [name]Peter[/name], never anything else. As with any name with a fairly common nn, I think you have to gently correct someone the first time they try the nn and most people will respect your wishes. Your son will also learn to do this if he chooses to go by the full name later in life. That said, [name]Peter[/name] [name]John[/name] is probably my least favorite of your options.

Good luck with your decision!

My favorite on the list is [name]Theodore[/name] [name]John[/name], but I like nicknames and would fine with [name]Theo[/name]. It might be something you would like once you saw the kid and realized [name]Theodore[/name] was a bit much for someone so tiny, but if the nn thing is still an issue I’d definitely have a back-up plan. I think with a short name like [name]John[/name] you need a few more syllables on the front end or the name sounds choppy. [name]One[/name] of my favorite [name]John[/name] names is [name]John[/name]-[name]Mark[/name] either hyphenated or as a fn and mn, but called by the full name. It just flows and it has a double whammy of Biblical background.

Thank you Zaelia for the wonderful comments! And you’re helping to build my confidence back up with [name]Henry[/name]. Have posted several threads around this name from the beginning, as I’ve always loved this name. But got somewhat discouraged along the way after getting feedback that I should stay away from another ‘y’ ending after already having a [name]Lucy[/name]. Also, some felt [name]Henry[/name] was just too classic next to [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name]. Yet fit with [name]James[/name]. And that it wasn’t a Biblical match like the other two boys. And someone mentioned along the way that it seemed too similar to [name]John[/name] [name]Henry[/name] connection. So I guess I somewhat wrote off this name but can see it coming back into play. [name]Love[/name] the simplicity of the name and less of a nn potential.

I just love the simplicity of [name]Theo[/name], but still feel questionable with [name]Theodore[/name] since everyone in our family (including my husband and I) have 4 letter names. With the exception of [name]James[/name] being 5 letters. So a shorter name just seems to flow better for me. But [name]Theodore[/name] is there because I really love [name]Theo[/name].

Our last name is 3 syllables, so it seems to carry the weight of our names then not sounding too choppy with shorter fn’s

Thanks again for your help!

I voted for [name]Simon[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Adam[/name], [name]Elias[/name], and [name]Gabriel[/name].

Personally, I would have only voted for one–[name]Asher[/name] [name]John[/name]. I think it’s so perfect and to me, [name]James[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], and [name]Asher[/name] are perfect together. I’m not really sure why it hasn’t gotten more love for you, because it seems like everyone I know loves [name]Asher[/name] and it seems perfectly matched to your other children to me! I thought it might be nice for you to have other options, so that’s why I voted for the other four.

[name]Simon[/name] [name]John[/name] - I don’t think it has the best flow but if [name]Asher[/name] wasn’t a consideration I probably would have latched onto [name]Simon[/name] instead. It’s a great Biblical name and I think [name]James[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], and [name]Simon[/name] are great together. I personally prefer [name]Silas[/name], but I think [name]Simon[/name] works really well with your children–it doesn’t have the same “S” ending that [name]James[/name] has.

[name]Adam[/name] [name]John[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] this, and I am so happy to see you considering it. It has a charming classic Biblical feel to it that suits your sibset so well, but it seems underused next to other Biblical classics like [name]Samuel[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]Michael[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], etc. I’ve never known an [name]Adam[/name] that wasn’t a great guy. My best friend in high school was an [name]Adam[/name], actually, so I have great memories to put with the name. I’ve considered it for my own list, and I would love to meet a little boy with the name now!

[name]Elias[/name] [name]John[/name] - [name]Elias[/name], while being a form of the Biblical [name]Elijah[/name], might be a bit too modern for your other kids but I do think it fits well and I adore it to death. I usually prefer it as a MN, though, as [name]Eli[/name] as a nn seems completely overdone in my area, but I think [name]James[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], and [name]Elias[/name] are very lovely together.

[name]Gabriel[/name] [name]John[/name] - even though this is longer I think it’s great! It has similar vibes to your other children and I’ve always loved the angel [name]Gabriel[/name] in Bible stories. It has the great nn of [name]Gabe[/name] and it feels both refined and down-to-earth… I can see a [name]Gabriel[/name] being just about anyone! I’ve been considering it for my own list lately.

Good luck!

I voted for [name]Simon[/name], [name]Elias[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] because I’m a huge fan of the Bible names and I think they are perfect with your other kids.

However, if you really like [name]Theo[/name]/[name]Theodore[/name] (not too clunky btw) I like that with nm [name]John[/name], too.

Does [name]John[/name] have to be the middle name? What about [name]Theodore[/name] in the middle? If you see him and feel like [name]Theo[/name] is THE nn, you can always use it if it’s his middle, too.

I voted for [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Henry[/name]. If you love [name]Asher[/name], then use it! It is such a wonderful name. I don’t think it clashes with your other children’s names. Because it is a biblical name it still matches the style of your other children’s names. If you find yourself unable to use it still, I prefer [name]Henry[/name] or [name]Theodore[/name]. (I can’t decide between the two!) They are all such wonderful names that are on my own short list. Best of luck to you and your family!
