Religious community

I really like the name [name]Kane[/name] even though I know it’s probably not a favorite here on Nameberry. But I live in a fairly religious community…do you think it should be taken off the table due to the negative [name]Cain[/name]/bible association since religion is so prominent in my area? Or do you think that names and particularly boys names lately seem to be more adventurous these days and it wouldn’t be a problem? I personally am not very religious and like the phonetic sound of the name, plus it flows well with my last name.

I think it should be fine as long as you spell it [name]Kane[/name] and not [name]Cain[/name].

I personally wouldn’t use [name]Kane[/name], but if it isn’t an issue for you I think it’s fine. [name]Just[/name] don’t spell it [name]Cain[/name].

I am religious and therefore would not use any spelling of [name]Cain[/name]/[name]Kane[/name], but I think you could definitely use it without problems.

I think [name]Kane[/name] would be fine as a mn but I wouldn’t use it as a first name. Certainly [name]Kane[/name] is preferable to [name]Cain[/name] though.

I would avoid it just to avoid the 500 times over the course of your son’s life that someone will make a joke about the name association. That’s just me-- it doesn’t sound bad, I’d just want to avoid that.

I really want to say that it’s fine, so long as it’s not spelled [name]Cain[/name] but I just don’t know. I like the nature-y feel of [name]Cane[/name] and it would be an acceptable name where I live. If it concerns you for where you live, then it may truly be an issue.

People hear your name more than they see it, so if you live in an uber religious area people will hear “[name]Cain[/name]” no matter how you spell it. [name]Just[/name] have to decide if you and, most importantly, your child can live with that

I would avoid it, too. What about [name]Kade[/name]/ [name]Cade[/name]. Or [name]Caedmon[/name] (nn: Caed/ [name]Cade[/name])?

I really like that name, but would never use it because of the [name]Cain[/name]/[name]Able[/name] association. However, if it doesn’t bother you go for it.

Aside from the religious thing, I would tire of “guess that’s the mark of [name]Kane[/name]!” “she’s raising [name]Kane[/name]!” etc. stupid jokes and so on. It also has no masculine sounding NN (I like [name]Kay[/name] for a girl…) and I would just generally find it a bit inflexible and hard to deal with after awhile.

That said I don’t seem to have the same problems with one syllable names I like so maybe I just don’t like it enough.

I really don’t see a problem so long as you spell it [name]Kane[/name] and not [name]Cain[/name]. Then again, I don’t come from a very religious area.

I don’t think it matters. If your worried, what about [name]Kade[/name]?

I come from a religious area and honestly don’t think it would be a problem. I grew up and went to a religious school and I like. The name. First person I think of is [name]Cane[/name] on the y&r.

Up to you really, we have an [name]Ethan[/name] [name]Cain[/name] at my daycare, I have to say I was rather shocked by it.
I’m not very religious, but I don’t see the good in choosing it for a child’s name at all. [name]Cade[/name]/[name]Kade[/name]/[name]Kale[/name]/[name]Zane[/name] are all better choices.

To me, [name]Cain[/name]/[name]Kane[/name]'s not such a stellar name that it can’t be bypassed.

Then again, anything pretty much goes in this day and age, so if you’re set on it, go ahea.
