Rem?

Thoughts on [name]Rem[/name] please.

Yea? (Why?)
Nay? (Why not?)

Rémy/Rémi, Remigius, Remigio, [name]Remington[/name], [name]Remus[/name] etc… with the nickname [name]Rem[/name] would be fine. [name]Rem[/name] lacks substance and just seems too nicknamey for a full name.

Like [name]REM[/name] sleep?

Well there’s [name]Rahm[/name]. Means pleasing or supreme… I mean, I wouldn’t name a kid [name]Rahm[/name] [name]Emanuel[/name], but it is a pretty great name. [name]Rem[/name] feels a bit truncated to me. [name]Remus[/name] has a wonderful sound, but it also has the unfortunate, minstrel-ish association of Uncle [name]Remus[/name]. I think [name]Remy[/name] is fun, but it’s going ambisexual now. [name]Ah[/name] well.

I have a female friend named [name]Rembrandt[/name], and she goes by [name]Rem[/name]. It has a decidedly feminine association to me.

I thought this.

Me too. I dislike it as a full name but it’s fine as a nickname. I went to school with a [name]Remington[/name] nn [name]Rem[/name].

My first thought was [name]RAM[/name], like in a computer. Then I thought Rapid Eye Movement.

Took the words out of my mouth! The fn I like the most for this nn is [name]Remington[/name].

First though is [name]REM[/name] sleep. It’s a good nn, but way too insubstantial and acronym-y on its own.

In the Netherlands, [name]Rem[/name] is a really common nickname for the boy’s name Remco or Remko.
There is also a famous Dutch architect called [name]Rem[/name] Koolhaas.
I like it!
