Remi, Della, Magda, Sophie, and Esme

Dh and I have such a hard time agreeing on names that I thought I needed to work on my favorite lists before trying to convince him. This will be our sixth child and we won’t find out the sex. Our other children are
[name]Celena[/name] (pron. seh-LAIN-ah) [name]Carol[/name] “CC”, [name]Annabelle[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name] “[name]Annie[/name]”, [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Hope[/name] “[name]Evie[/name]”, [name]Nathan[/name] [name]Christopher[/name] “[name]Nate[/name]”, and [name]Zeke[/name] [name]Wilson[/name] “sometimes Z”. Each of our children have one family name and a name of their own. We want to carry on the tradition. I have a list of non-family names that I love and combined with family names. What is your favorite combination of each? You may choose more than one. Also, if you have an opinion on which given name and nickname goes better with our children, I would love to know. Fwiw, the nickname choices are the only ones that we agree on.

[name]Remi[/name] [name]Louisa[/name], [name]Remi[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Remi[/name] [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Remi[/name] [name]Coralie[/name]

[name]Miriam[/name] “[name]Remi[/name]”
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Louisa[/name], [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Gabriella[/name]

[name]Magdalena[/name] “[name]Della[/name]” “[name]Magda[/name]”
[name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Rose[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Mae[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Lucille[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Plum[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Lucia[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Eliza[/name]

[name]Josephine[/name] “[name]Sophie[/name]”
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Claire[/name],[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Lanier[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Calla[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Luella[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Amelie[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Plum[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Ella[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Sadie[/name]

[name]Esme[/name] (ez-may)
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Coralie[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Amelie[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Julietta[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Clarissa[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Clarabella[/name]

Can’t wait to see your choices. Thank you!!!

My favorites are:

[name]Remi[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] (I think [name]Miriam[/name] sounds a little stiff with your other girls’ names, but I love [name]Remi[/name])
Magdelena [name]Rose[/name]

2 other combos I like:
[name]Remi[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]

Gosh, that is tough! I like them all. I do think all would go pretty well with her siblings, too.

[name]Remi[/name] – I prefer [name]Miriam[/name] nn [name]Remi[/name] but I still like [name]Remi[/name] as a stand alone name (if you never have the intention of calling her [name]Miriam[/name], this choice would make more sense). Very cute. [name]Remi[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] is by far my favorite mn combo…the other ones don’t flow as well. The “i” in [name]Remi[/name] kind of blends in with the “E” in [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name].

[name]Miriam[/name] ("[name]Remi[/name]")-- I like this option more than [name]Remi[/name]. [name]Miriam[/name] has always been one of those hidden gems to me. [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]!

[name]Magdalena[/name] – I love the nn [name]Della[/name], that is too cute! I don’t know if nn [name]Magda[/name] is the best match with her siblings. I used to not care for the name [name]Magdalena[/name], until I met a few little girls with the name. I think it is a fun choice! [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is gorgeous.

[name]Josephine[/name] – I have a soft spot for [name]Josephine[/name], I just love this name! I wish my DH liked it  I prefer the nn [name]Josie[/name], but [name]Sophie[/name] is cute, too (although there are a lot of [name]Sophia[/name]'s/[name]Sophie[/name]'s out there!) [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Plum[/name] are my favorites.

[name]Esme[/name] – I’m afraid this is too tied with “twilight” right now, but it is really a lovely name. [name]Esme[/name] [name]Clarissa[/name] and [name]Esme[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] are my favorites. [name]Esme[/name] [name]Amelie[/name]/[name]Amelia[/name] blend together too much in my opinion (the ending of [name]Esme[/name] and the beginning of the mn)

My favorite would probably be [name]Miriam[/name] with nn [name]Remi[/name]. A close second would be [name]Josephine[/name] (that would be my top choice if the nn was [name]Josie[/name]…I am not a huge fan of [name]Sophie[/name] due to popularity and for personal associations – I know two dogs named [name]Sophie[/name] )

[name]Remi[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]

[name]Miriam[/name] “[name]Remi[/name]”
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]

[name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Rose[/name]

[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Claire[/name]

[name]Esme[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]

My faves are [name]Esme[/name] [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Claire[/name] in that order. To me, [name]Remi[/name] just sounds like a nickname and therefore not as substantial as the others. Good luck!

Thanks for your help. I really need it. My dh is quite picky so I try to narrow down my list to what sounds best before offering them to him. Otherwise, he will grab hold of the one that I think is the worst.

Ok, well I like [name]Remi[/name] but I think with [name]Celena[/name], [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Evangeline[/name] you need a more formal name for this daughter with [name]Remi[/name] as a nn. [name]Miriam[/name]'s not really my style and feels older and not as pretty as your other daughter’s names. Unfortunately I can’t think of any alternatives! [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Romy[/name]/[name]Romi[/name] by any chance? There are lots of lovely names [name]Romy[/name] can be a nn for - [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Rosemarie[/name], [name]Romilly[/name], [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Rosamund[/name], [name]Romana[/name], [name]Romia[/name], Romelia, [name]Romilda[/name], [name]Romany[/name] etc.

I personally wouldn’t have a [name]Magdalena[/name] with a [name]Celena[/name] especially since with the way you pronounce [name]Celena[/name] they would rhyme! I love the nn [name]Della[/name] though and luckily there are lots of other lovely names it can be a nn for. Such as: [name]Madeleine[/name] (still maybe too close to [name]Celena[/name] but not as close as [name]Magdalena[/name], and it depends how you pronounce the “leine” part of [name]Madeleine[/name] as you could say “lyn” or “line”), [name]Delilah[/name], [name]Adele[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Adela[/name], [name]Adelina[/name], [name]Delina[/name], [name]Adelia[/name], [name]Adelie[/name], [name]Adeline[/name], [name]Delphine[/name], [name]Adella[/name], [name]Odelia[/name], [name]Delaney[/name] or [name]Delyth[/name].

I love [name]Josephine[/name]! And [name]Sophie[/name] is super cute too but I prefer [name]Josie[/name] as a nn for [name]Josephine[/name] personally.

[name]Esme[/name] is gorgeous but I think it’d be nicer if each girl had their own initial rather than [name]Evangeline[/name] and [name]Esme[/name] sharing. That’s just me though! And it seems a little short next to the other names, with no real nn options other than maybe “[name]May[/name]”. Then there’s the Twilight connection to consider, although to me that isn’t a big deal because it’s a beautiful name.

My favourite combos of your choices:

[name]Remi[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] (definitely! [name]Love[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] and the E names don’t seem to flow well after [name]Remi[/name] and [name]Coralie[/name] rhymes with it!)
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] (I also like [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] but I think [name]Sophia[/name] freshens up [name]Miriam[/name] a little more)
[name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Mae[/name] (this is adorable although I like [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Sadie[/name] too)
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Ella[/name] (I liked almost every [name]Josephine[/name] combo but this one seems the prettiest to me, even though I’m not normally a big fan of [name]Ella[/name], I think it makes a very pretty middle)
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] (this is by far my favourite [name]Esme[/name] combo, it just makes it seem so classic, I love it :))

Some of your middle name choices would also make wonderful first names! I particularly like [name]Louisa[/name] (nn [name]Lulu[/name] or [name]Lula[/name]), [name]Coralie[/name] (nn [name]Cora[/name] or [name]Coral[/name]), [name]Gabriella[/name] (nn [name]Gabby[/name], [name]Brie[/name] or [name]Ella[/name]), [name]Juliet[/name] (nn [name]Jules[/name] or [name]Julie[/name]), [name]Lucia[/name] (nn [name]Lucy[/name]), [name]Amelie[/name] (nn Ams, [name]Ama[/name] or [name]Milly[/name]), [name]Rosalie[/name] (nn [name]Rose[/name], [name]Rosie[/name] or [name]Rosa[/name]), [name]Amelia[/name] (nn [name]Mia[/name] or [name]Millie[/name]) or [name]Clarissa[/name] (nn [name]Claire[/name], [name]Clari[/name] or [name]Rissa[/name]).

Best of luck!

[name]Remi[/name] [name]Coralie[/name]

[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]

[name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]

[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Claire[/name]

[name]Esme[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]

I really love a lot of your combos!!!

My choices for each:

[name]Remi[/name]: [name]Remi[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name] “[name]Remi[/name]”: [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Gabriella[/name], [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] (both are great!)
[name]Magdalena[/name] “[name]Della[/name]” “[name]Magda[/name]”: [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Lucia[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Mae[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Rose[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Plum[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] “[name]Sophie[/name]”: [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Ella[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Calla[/name]
[name]Esme[/name]:[name]Esme[/name] [name]Julietta[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Coralie[/name], [name]Esme[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]

I found that a lot of these combos really fit, so I felt it was a waste to knock all but one off! My favorites, however, are (excluding [name]Remi[/name], whose combo listed is the only one I like) [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Gabriella[/name] (+ [name]Sophia[/name] is good here too!), [name]Magdalena[/name] [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Sadie[/name] or [name]Mae[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Esme[/name] [name]Julietta[/name]. I like them all in that order ([name]Miriam[/name] being 1st), with [name]Remi[/name] above [name]Esme[/name]. I think they all go great with your kids’ names!

Good luck!

[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is Perfect!
