So I have a problem. My main character is currently named [name]Cassandra[/name] Atkinson, which I’m not happy with for a number of reasons. It’s too long, it comes out like Cassandratkinson when you say it out loud and it’s just a little too girly for her. She needs a name that’s feminine but not too girly (and preferably doesn’t end in -a) and a little bit unusual. The book takes place maybe 50 or so years in the future, and naming trends are different - but not too different. Other characters are named [name]Livia[/name], [name]Emerson[/name] (boy) and [name]Wren[/name]. I’m fairly content with her last name - it’s the first name I need suggestions for. And if anyone would like to offer a few ideas for middle names, well, that wouldn’t go unappreciated.
I’ve considered [name]Astrid[/name], [name]Faith[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name]. I like the ‘feel’ of [name]Daphne[/name] for this character - it’s soft and pretty but not frilly (in my opinion, anyway), but I just don’t think [name]Daphne[/name] is the right name for her. Any thoughts? Suggestions?
And for anyone who’s feeling particularly helpful today, I need a name for another character, who used to be called [name]Lucas[/name]. I’d like a strong name for him that doesn’t say dumb jock (like [name]Brock[/name] or [name]Bruce[/name] might)… I’m thinking maybe [name]Roman[/name] or [name]Griffin[/name].
As for the boy, [name]Roman[/name] and [name]Griffin[/name] are both fabulous. You could also try [name]Axel[/name], [name]Quinn[/name], [name]Dominic[/name], [name]Damon[/name], [name]Lincoln[/name] or [name]Duncan[/name].
If long is an issue, [name]Persephone[/name] isn’t the answer. [name]Just[/name] saying. [name]Eve[/name] I like, though. [name]Iris[/name], too. They fit the criteria, and they aren’t too long.
My thoughts:
[name]Astrid[/name]. I like it. Not girly, though, if that’s what you want.
[name]Cassidy[/name]; not too girly, not too…ummm…guy-y???
[name]Ivy[/name]: my ultimate favorite. I’ve always loved the name [name]Ivy[/name], and I think your character can put the name to good use.
On to the issue of your anti-dumb-jock, strong name.
I like [name]Griffin[/name] a lot. Raffin is similar but more unusual.
Thoughts:
If you like [name]Griffin[/name], stick with it. It’s a great name, and [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Ivy[/name] (I really love that name), [name]Wren[/name], [name]Emerson[/name], and [name]Livia[/name] sound good together.
My top picks for your two name requests are [name]Griffin[/name] and [name]Ivy[/name], but if you aren’t happy with [name]Griffin[/name], I have more names.
[name]Parker[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name]
[name]Jake[/name]
[name]Wyatt[/name]
[name]Opal[/name] Atkinson was my first thought. That and [name]Lisbeth[/name].
For the guy, how about [name]Conan[/name]? Or [name]Donovan[/name] or [name]Finnegan[/name]. All of those sound strong, but [name]Conan[/name] is close enough to [name]Conor[/name] not to need a nickname, and [name]Donovan[/name] and [name]Finnegan[/name] can always be [name]Don[/name] and [name]Finn[/name]. [name]Matthew[/name] ‘[name]Matt[/name]’ is good too.
