[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! In [name_u]August[/name_u] I gave birth to two beautiful twin girls, [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_m]Aaren[/name_m] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. We spent so much time thinking about baby names, and, of course, are now experiencing extreme name regret. We intended to call our twins [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_m]Ames[/name_m]. [name_f]Edie[/name_f] fits her name perfectly, but [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] does not. Whenever we say the name [name_m]Ames[/name_m] it sounds harsh to us, and we quickly gave up on calling her that. But we only chose [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] to get to the nickname, and we don’t want to call her [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. We have decided that we need to change her name (and please don’t try to talk us out of this). We are considering the name [name_f]Annelise[/name_f], nickname [name_f]Ani[/name_f], but are worried that people will get [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ani[/name_f] confused. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think they’re too similar? If so, any other name suggestions? We want something sweet-sounding, and not too common, but not too long. Please help us out!
I should clarify that Ani would be pronounced Ah-nee. The first part of Annelise would be pronounced like Anna in Frozen pronounces her name.
Update! Well, we’ve settled on the nickname Ani. But we have no idea what to use for the full!
I think [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] sound very nice together and I also like [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
I don’t think [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ani[/name_f] are too similar but I would spell it [name_f]Annie[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ani[/name_f] are super sweet together! Though I do prefer [name_f]Annie[/name_f] vs [name_f]Ani[/name_f]
What about the nickname acey? Like A.C initials.
Or ace is kinda cute right now
Edith and analise is nice. I love the name [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] tho.
Oh! I should specify that Ani would be pronounced Ah-nee. The first part of Annelise would be pronounced like Anna in Frozen pronounces her name.
Amelia is such a beautiful name. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite nn for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is [name_f]Molly[/name_f]… [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f] sound so sweet together.
i think those are so cute and not to similar!! Also it does not madder what others think i would do it if you think it is a good choice for your family
Changing seems to make sense here. Good luck!
Edith and [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] are fine together but [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ani[/name_f] do sound very close to me.
I think of [name_f]Emmaliese[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]) but those are even closer. Not sure if closeness always matters.
Edith and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f])?
Edith and [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_u]Romy[/name_u])?
Edith and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Flossie[/name_f])?
Edith and [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f] and Sassy)?
Edith and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearlie[/name_f])?
Edith and [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwennie[/name_f])?
Edith and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Trixie[/name_f])?
Edith and [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Gertie[/name_f])?
Edith and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] ([name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Polly[/name_f])?
Edie and [name_f]Ani[/name_f] are similar, I wish the ending sounds were different, but it could work fine if you love it.
Edie and [name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Leah[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f] (maybe this works with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f])
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]May[/name_f]
Hi there.
Ooh, I love [name_f]Ani[/name_f]. [name_f]Edie[/name_f] & [name_f]Ani[/name_f] are super sweet together, & I don’t think that they’re too close. I think that [name_f]Ani[/name_f] is fairly self explanatory. Are you in the U.S.? I feel like people may say [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] as [name_u]Anne[/name_u]-uh-leese. I really like this spelling more than [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], but the way. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you love [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] more or [name_f]Ani[/name_f] more? Would you consider a different ‘[name_f]Ani[/name_f]’ name? For the record, I like [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] a lot w/Edith. I just think that the pronunciation could get confusing, & I’m guessing that that’s something you’d like to avoid. There are lots of great '[name_f]Ani[/name_f] names though!
Maybe…
Ana
Anika
Aniel
Aniela
Anora
Anais
Anita
Antonia
Eliana
Giuliana
Georgiana
Luciana
Liliana
Mariana
I think that [name_f]Anita[/name_f] is my favorite w/Edith.
Hope this helps.
No worries about changing a baby’s name – more ppl do it than you realize.
[name_f]My[/name_f] BIG ADVICE would be to name her for a name you love and not one you are chosing to get to a name derivative that you’d use.
If you are set and ready to go with [name_f]Ani[/name_f] (ah-nee)…
- [name_f]Ani[/name_f] phonetically reads [name_f]Annie[/name_f] to me, and I think you’ll be frustrated correcting everyone at least once. The official FN being Annelise / Annelisa or anything similar just cements this pronunciation, which sounds like the opposite of what you want.
- [name_f]Onnie[/name_f] would be the more intuitive spelling. The brain immediately recalls names like [name_u]Connie[/name_u] and [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] and [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f].
- Another option is [name_f]Anni[/name_f]. You’ll still get some [name_f]Annie[/name_f] but not as often. It means “years” in Italian, and any latin-derivative language speakers will pronounce it with the pronunciation that you seek.
- The name, [name_u]Honor[/name_u], has a natural shortening to [name_f]Onnie[/name_f].
- Last alternative, maybe consider names that naturally have that “ahn” sound, like Bonnie, Wanda, Ronda, Connie, Lonnie, Georgianna, Gianna, etc?
My votes are for:
- Edith & Gianna
- Edith & Bonnie
Best of luck!!
Sorry that you’re having name regret! [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] are super adorable as sisters, imo. I don’t think [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ani[/name_f] are too close, especially with your pronunciation.
Firstly I love [name_f]Edie[/name_f]
I do understand your doubt, however I would just like to add that all Amelias that I know go by the nickname [name_f]Milly[/name_f], which is very different but I think goes really well with [name_f]Edie[/name_f]. Perhaps one to consider?
I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] with that pronunciation to be honest and I prefer [name_f]Annie[/name_f] pronounced A-nnie not [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-ni, especially with [name_f]Edie[/name_f].
Other options that would work are:
Annabel
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f]
[name_f]Posy[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_u]Holly[/name_u]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Tilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
I really like the suggestions of [name_f]Milly[/name_f] for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Annie[/name_f] for [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] but I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Ani[/name_f] with [name_f]Edie[/name_f], they don’t seem to quite match stylistically. [name_f]Ani[/name_f] seems kind of modern and exotic while [name_f]Edie[/name_f] seems more cosy and vintage?
Edith and [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] sound lovely. Have you considered an alternative nickname from [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]? For instance, [name_u]Ami[/name_u] or [name_f]Millie[/name_f] or even [name_f]Lia[/name_f]? If not then [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] is great. If you are going with [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] I personally prefer the nickname [name_f]Nell[/name_f] or [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]. Because I don’t really like the nickname [name_f]Ani[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Annelise[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ani[/name_f], together. I don’t think [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ani[/name_f] are too alike.
I pronounce [name_f]Annelise[/name_f], and therefore short form [name_f]Ani[/name_f], differently to you, and I’m concerned you may have pronunciation issues the way you want to pronounce it. Not to say you can’t do it, but just be prepared.
Annelise is beautiful and [name_f]Ani[/name_f] is sweet. [name_f]Ani[/name_f] and [name_f]Edie[/name_f] aren’t too close
Ani and [name_f]Edie[/name_f] aren’t too close but I definitely prefer the spelling [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] piece of advice, try using the name [name_f]Ani[/name_f] on your little girl for a day or two to see if you get the names jumbled up. If you can get it right i’m sure most people will too.

I see you’ve already chosen a name but I just wanted to throw another one in the mix. Have you heard of [name_u]Alani[/name_u]? The [name_f]Ani[/name_f] part is pronounced exactly how you like it. I think it’s hawaiian but it sounds nice with [name_f]Edith[/name_f]/Edie
Oh! I really like that! Thank you!
