I’m a bit hesitant to post this here, as I’ve not told a soul save for three friends, but here goes. After years of introspection and subsequent denial, I have finally decided to put my happiness first and come out as transgender. I’m terrified, but I’ve come to the realization that the only way to live a fulfilling life is to transition and become who I truly am inside. In light of this, I need your assistance.
As much as I adore my childhood nickname, [name_f]Sashi[/name_f], I’m concerned that it is too feminine to fit me now, and thus I am searching for a more suitably masculine name. I’m open to any and every suggestion, but I am looking for something not too common or stereotypical. I like spunky, whimsical names, preferably with a nickname, but it’s not a requirement. it’s an added plus if they stem from mythology, the arts, or history.
Here are a few names I could see myself using …
[name_m]Ajax[/name_m] - I like the mythological connection, and it sounds quirky with the punchy ‘X’. The meaning, “eagle”, symbolizes freedom, which is significant to me as well. One of my friends has a friend named [name_u]Jaxx[/name_u], and my step-nephew’s name is similar as well, but I don’t interact with either often.
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u] - I’m a fan of the [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_u]Spenser[/name_u] connection, and it’s adorably vintage.
[name_m]Benno[/name_m] - [name_f]My[/name_f] concern is that it’s too nickname-y, or cutesy.
Finlo/Finnegan “Finn” - I’m aware that [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is a popular name chosen by transgender men, but I think either of these forms are distinct enough to stand out.
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] - “The Invention of [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] Cabret” is one of my favorite childhood books, and the film adaptation is dear to my heart as well. There’s also [name_m]Victor[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], one of the greatest authors, in my opinion.
[name_u]Huxley[/name_u] - It came to mind while I was reading “Adventures of [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m] Finn”, and I think that it’s awfully sweet sounding. I also like that it can be shortened to [name_m]Huck[/name_m]. No one else seems to like it, however. Perhaps it’s too trendy ??
“Theo” - [name_f]My[/name_f] only qualm is that I can’t find a full name for it that I like. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] just isn’t for me.
[name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] “Will” - I could definitely see myself as a [name_u]Will[/name_u], and [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] is a longtime name love of mine, but everyone’s immediate association has either been an elderly man or a pig, which isn’t the most flattering, admittedly.
I apologize if this is not the correct space for this thread. If it is not, I’ll request to have it moved. Thank you all ever so much for any replies I may receive !!
