Repeated sound mishaps!

I am just curious if anyone else has had this experience. I saw the name of a little girl online: [name]Isabel[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]. Now months ago I wouldn’t have given it a second look, but the more I thought about it the more it bothered me. I never used to pay attention to such things but the repeated [name]El[/name] sound was frustrating. I am not usually this picky but this irritates me, have you seen names like this before?

Names like [name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Newton[/name] or [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Reynolds[/name] piss me off. The repeated sound makes the name run together in my opinion.

I agree-frustrating! [name]Don[/name]'t the parents say the names aloud to check for these problems?

I don’t think it’s awful. It runs together a bit but I still think its an okay combo. [name]How[/name] often are full names said aloud? Maybe they loved [name]Isabel[/name] and Elosie has special meaning. Meaning trumpets a slight run together name, for me.

Yeah, repeated sounds bother me too. A couple of my nieces and nephews, the end sounds of their names match the end sounds of their last names, to me it sounds very clunky [not in a good way].

I knew a [name]Jemima[/name] [name]Marie[/name]! They tend to run into one another when they have similar sounds! It bugs me!

I love it! Lol, I think it makes the flow so much better, and makes a lovely unifying link in a combo.
I’m guilty of it with combos: [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Elena[/name], [name]Henry[/name] [name]Reese[/name].

Many may not like it, but some do. It could be intentional.

I’ve seen lot’s of names like this, it’s not that rare in [name]France[/name] but in the States the opinion seems to be different and I can’t completely disagree, some repeat sounds don’t sound that great in English.

I had to add this comment even though its a different kind of mishap…

A family I know had twins (they are teens now) and she HATED mathcing names and alliteration names… so she Named them [name]Matthew[/name] and [name]Patrick[/name]…

Now they are just [name]Matt[/name] and [name]Pat[/name]! ooops!!! ( i dont know how she never noticed that!)

I’m probably guilty of this since I love [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Severus[/name] (top boy’s name) and that runs together a bit. The main reason I love it is because it’s my two favorite names and it doesn’t sound horrible. Plus it’s not like you go by your first and middle, just your first name. So it doesn’t bother me enough to make me not use it.

I agree. It runs together a little bit, sure, but it’s not the end of the world. There could be much worse. I’ve been a member of Nameberry for about 18 months now and it still doesn’t bother me. I think it’s more important to use a name (or names) you love rather than have perfect flow.

That particular combo isn’t as bad as some. I never used to notice that kind of stuff too much until i became a member on nameberry. In fact, my son’s name (pre-nameberry) runs together. [name]Cuyler[/name] [name]Reese[/name]. The r’s run together and I honestly never noticed it until I started working more with names and getting more picky. I always get lots of compliments on his name when people ask what his middle name is. In his case, it’s only the one letter, but some names like the example you gave have repeating combinations and that seems a bit more obvious to me than just when letter. I think meaning can trump these situations though. We are pregnant with number two and if he is a boy, his name will be [name]Avery[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]. [name]Daniel[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] has the short"a’ sound repeating three times! But, they are both so meaningful to us we don’t care!

Name combos with repeated vowel sounds bother me most – unless there are several different syllables in between. For example, the repeated short I sounds in [name]Tim[/name] Wicks bother me a little, but [name]Timothy[/name] Wicks does not. The repeated long A sounds in [name]Aidan[/name] [name]Davis[/name] bother me, but [name]Avery[/name] [name]Davis[/name] sounds better.

Drives me nuts. I hate it when names run together. I just wind up hearing/reading it as “Isabeloise” or “Jemimarie” (using the examples given).

Ironically, as much as I hate the repeated letters right next to each other (a la [name]Isabel[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]) I don’t mind them in other places, like my own name. My middle name is spelled [name]Aileen[/name] - pron. like [name]Eileen[/name] but I’ve heard [name]Aileen[/name] is the Irish spelling? - which unintentionally matches the -ai- in [name]Kaitlin[/name]. Although now I think about it, maybe it doesn’t bother me because they make two different sounds.

Anyway, I agree with the OP: this bugs me to death.

I’ve had to give up on my long time fave - [name]Fox[/name]. Our last name starts with a K and I can’t say the names together without pissing myself off. Probably not a good sign!

It doesn’t bother me unless more than one syllable is the same, like [name]Isabella[/name] [name]Bellatrix[/name] for example.

Golly golly gosh.

Thanks for you comments!
No no, I wasn’t saying it isn’t lovely, I was just talking about how when you say her whole name aloud it becomes very noticeable.

I agree. Different people have different tastes, a good thing in my opinion.
