Replacing Alaina

Hello, I posted a few weeks ago about Russian names for boys (thanks for all your help, I’m still deciding between [name_m]Dmitri[/name_m] and [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m]), and now I’ve pretty much got all the names worked out in my very odd, not quite genre-defined story (closer to a dystopia/fantasy than anything else). Except for one thing - my protagonist’s name doesn’t fit, and it’s been bothering me each day I write.
As of right now, her name is [name_f]Alaina[/name_f]. But it doesn’t really fit in well with the other characters’ names, and I don’t know, it’s just bothering me. [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] is an orphaned teenager who was brought up by a crazy old woman who met her father once, whom she agreed to live with in order to evade living in the orphanage. The old woman couldn’t have kids, and always wanted a daughter, so it worked out for both of them, though neither of them really have much affection for each other. She was brought up in complete isolation; other than the old woman, she hasn’t spoken to literally anyone since her parents died. Consequentially, she’s also a little on the odd side. She had nightmares much of her early life of her parents’ death, and isn’t quite sure how to talk and react to people. Expressing emotion is difficult for her. Nonetheless, her foster mother ensured she had an excellent education growing up, so she’s unusually educated and ladylike for someone of her social class, and is fairly intelligent, though not exceedingly so. She is very well-read, plays piano, likes dancing, and has a fondness for music boxes (one of the few things that was retrieved from her old house was a music box). Physically, she has long, thick, wavy golden-blonde hair, tan skin, freckles, green eyes, a slender figure (no curves), fairly short. Her last name is Tethran, and her parents’ names are [name_f]Nyssa[/name_f] and [name_m]Peder[/name_m] (pay-der).

[name_f]One[/name_f] guideline: No names starting with the letter M. I already have a [name_f]Melisandre[/name_f], [name_m]Mael[/name_m], and a [name_m]Marius[/name_m]. Thanks for all your help!

I actually like the name [name_f]Alaina[/name_f]. It flows well with the other names you gave, imo. But, if you really want a different name… [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Natalya[/name_f]/ [name_f]Natalia[/name_f], [name_u]Zooey[/name_u], [name_f]Katharine[/name_f], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f]/ [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Janelle[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]/ [name_f]Livia[/name_f], [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] I helped! Have fun with your story!

Hmm… child of [name_f]Nyssa[/name_f] and [name_m]Peder[/name_m]… I’d expect her to have a slightly off name. [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] is very typical, not unique, so I’d try for something more on the made up side of the world.

[name_f]Gretta[/name_f]
Greita
Lyrica
[name_u]Jory[/name_u]
[name_f]Senna[/name_f]
Arren
Cova

[name_f]Gretel[/name_f]
Casimira
[name_u]Bell[/name_u]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] nn Daz

@rainierloner: I like quite a lot of those names, particularly [name_u]Piper[/name_u], but I think they’re a little too modern for the style I’m going for.
@celianne: I quite agree (on the slightly off/made-up bit). [name_f]Senna[/name_f] is interesting…someone else recommended to me [name_f]Alenna[/name_f], but I’m still not sure. I really like the style of the names you gave me.
@miranda082: Perhaps you misunderstood; [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] doesn’t need a Russian name, a different character I posted on a forum did. There are some lovely names on here ([name_u]Mischa[/name_u] is one of my favorites, but I think it’s a little too spunky for her).
@happiness_harper1: [name_f]Gretel[/name_f] is a little too engrained in the fairytale for me…I like both [name_f]Casia[/name_f] and [name_f]Mira[/name_f], but Casimira’s a bit too much. The other two are too simple though…oh, sorry I’m so picky!

Anyone else?
