rethinking middle for Caterina

I feel like I’m bombarding the forums, but we’re running out of time to name our little one, due very soon.

Ok, let’s talk about [name_f]Caterina[/name_f]. Both my husband and I agree that she may be just a bit boring, but we can’t shake it from our list. Part of that is that it is very meaningful to us (we want a ‘C’ name as a commemoration, but [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] would get us closest to the name of the person we’re actually honoring), and we agree it’s quite pretty. My husband loves the nn’s, which I think is why it’s so high on his list.

I’m thinking I might love the name a bit more if we could find the right middle for it.

Right now, we’ve paired it with. The ‘d’ initial is meaningful to my husband and it could have some other meaningful connection too, but I’m not sold. I think I want something a bit softer, more whimsical. C@terin@ Delph1ne feels a bit too sleek maybe? We both like the combo, and it may still stand, but I’d love to see if you can come up with something else that makes [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] feel a bit more fairytale/storybook and a bit less film noir? Maybe I’m overthinking this…

Edited to add:

Maybe boring is the wrong word. Everyone in our little nuclear family has a fairly uncommon name, so I worry she’ll be the odd one out for having one that is so much more familiar.

Also, we don’t need a ‘D’ name necessarily

What about …
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Danielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Darlene[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Destiny[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Dominique[/name_u]

Or if you are not set on a D middle name …
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Allison[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Echo[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Jordan[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f]

I think you might like [name_f]Carina[/name_f]. It sounds less bulky and more elegant.

Suggestions for [name_f]Catarina[/name_f]:
[name_f]Catarina[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Catarina[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Catarina[/name_f] [name_f]Erin[/name_f]
[name_f]Catarina[/name_f] [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]
[name_f]Catarina[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Catarina[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f]

First of all congratulations! I don’t think [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] is boring at all. Exotic and lovely! [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is stunning. I’m not sure how to top that.

A few other options:
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f]

[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Dixie[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] Devereux

Immediately I thought [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] for fairytale vibes

With a “d” middle
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Dell[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Delphi[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Daffodil[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] Dandelion

What about shortening [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] to [name_f]Delphi[/name_f]? It’s my cousin’s name and I adore it. It sounds stunning with [name_f]Caterina[/name_f], which I don’t find boring in the slightest, by the way! Good luck.

[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Day[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Darva[/name_f] (means honeybee)
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Dayton[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]December[/name_u]

[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Dream[/name_u]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u], [name_u]Dillon[/name_u]

I think [name_f]Catarina[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is absolutely stunning and I love the [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f], [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], and [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u] suggestions.

I went a little more broadly literary/mythological, but what about:
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] (the children’s book)
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] ([name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f])
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Nimue[/name_f] (the Lady of the [name_u]Lake[/name_u])
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] Darling (the Darling family from [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Pan[/name_m])
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] ([name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]‘s Much [name_f]Ado[/name_f] About Nothing)
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] ([name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m])
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] ([name_m]Odysseus[/name_m]’ wife)
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] (Greek goddess and Hades’ wife)
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] (dryad in Greek mythology)
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] (a demon in Jewish tradition, but also supposedly [name_m]Adam[/name_m]'s first wife who refused to be subservient to him—there’s a lot of fascinating literature about her)
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] (princess of fairyland in one of [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] [name_u]Carroll[/name_u]'s novels)

I think there are a lot of other pretty floral/botanical options that sound fairytale/storybookish, too:
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]

I really like your spelling of [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] and with [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] it is such a gorgeous combo. I can’t top it but I’ll throw a few out there just in case.

[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Decima[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Dolores[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Damaris[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Dagmar[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Diantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Demetria[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Darcey[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Demeter[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Davina[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Dacia[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Dulcea[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Doveva[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Delta[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Della[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]/Daphna
[name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Deirdre[/name_f]

Of these I like [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_u]Dove[/name_u] the best for a more whimsical feel. But as I said before, pairing [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] with the sleek [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is amazing. Good luck and congratulations!

Thank you all so much for the suggestions!! So many great names. I’m also so glad to see that people like our current combo and [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] in general. It’s definitely comforting. I think boring was the wrong word, maybe. Everyone in our little nuclear family has a fairly uncommon name, so I worry she’ll be the odd one out for having one that is so much more familiar.

A lot of you recommended [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], which I do really like but unfortunately can’t use. [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] is also super cute - I hadn’t considered it. We don’t need a ‘D’ name, but it would be nice. We want something with some sort of meaning, but we can go several different routes. I ran several of these suggestions by my husband, but it seems like [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is currently sticking as our top contender.

@tfzolghadr - Thanks for such a long list - I love so many of the names on it! We actually had [name_f]Caterina[/name_f] [name_f]Liv[/name_f] on our list for a while but had forgotten about it. I think we’ll bring it back as a backup!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] weighing late to say I think [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is stunning with C@terin@!
