I’m 5 weeks away from my due date. We narrowed our boy choices down to 2, but after having essentially decided on a girl’s name, now I’m not sure at all.
Maybe it’s the hormones, or the stress of knowing the baby could come at any time. I feel need to "re"expand my list and get some fresh thoughts. Please take a look at the names below and help with alternative suggestions:
[name]Isis[/name]
[name]Briar[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name] (I want a name like [name]Astrid[/name], but not [name]Astrid[/name]…)
[name]Signe[/name]
[name]Lux[/name] (my parents can’t get behind this one since it was a brand of soap…LOL)
[name]Skye[/name]
I love [name]Stella[/name] but it doesn’t go with our last name - in fact, anything ending in “y” or “ie” would sound problematic.
Names we don’t like that are likely to be suggested:
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Ingrid[/name] (I like but it’s too close to the name of a former ex of my DH)
If I had a style I’d tell you!! Thanks so any help - I’m going crazy and convinced she will come without us having a name prepared, and then in 2 months I’ll be writing a “[name]Baby[/name] Name Remorse” post!!!
[name]Jill[/name] - I love with every ounce of soul [name]Indigo[/name]! Okay, now that’s out
I love the suggestions already mentioned for [name]Astrid[/name] but I’ll try anyway. I hope none are repeats.
[name]Astrid[/name] -
[name]Andromeda[/name] (out there, I know)
[name]August[/name]
[name]Estee[/name]/[name]Estelle[/name]- (means star like [name]Astrid[/name])
[name]Danica[/name]/[name]Danika[/name] (morning star)
[name]Sidra[/name] (like a star)
[name]Ardis[/name]
[name]Isis[/name] - I prefer [name]Iris[/name], because I love flowers. But I see that you don’t like the name [name]Iris[/name].
[name]Briar[/name] - this is different, but it’s just a bit too brambly for me.
[name]Astrid[/name] (I want a name like [name]Astrid[/name], but not [name]Astrid[/name]…) - I love [name]Astrid[/name], but, yeah, after that Office episode, I can see how some people don’t like it.
[name]Signe[/name] - this is fascinating to me. [name]How[/name] do you pronounce it?
[name]Lux[/name] (my parents can’t get behind this one since it was a brand of soap…LOL) - I don’t really like it. But I love the name [name]Lucy[/name].
[name]Skye[/name] - I would like this as a middle.
What about:
[name]Ailsa[/name]
[name]Annika[/name] - on my short list
[name]Anwen[/name] - love!
[name]Ardith[/name]
[name]Aviva[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Bryn[/name]
[name]Bryony[/name]
[name]Camden[/name]
[name]Carys[/name] - so pretty!
[name]Elspeth[/name] - love!
[name]Fern[/name] - would be a great middle name.
[name]Finley[/name]
[name]Flora[/name] - love!
[name]Gemma[/name] - absolutely love it!
[name]Gwyneth[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name]

[name]Tilda[/name] or could be [name]Matilda[/name] - love
[name]Tressa[/name]
[name]Viveka[/name] - so cute
[name]Willa[/name]
I’m sure that you will choose a wonderful name for your daughter!
[name]Jill[/name], thanks for reminding me that “[name]Ciel[/name]” was on my original list and I loved it. I love the meaning, and that it’s french.
[name]Susan[/name], “[name]Signe[/name]” is properly pronounced See-na, with the “a” sound very subtle or even silent. It will definitely be mispronounced “[name]Sig[/name]-Nee” but that’s maybe ok. I prefer [name]Isis[/name] over [name]Iris[/name] b/c of the association with a favorite [name]Bob[/name] [name]Dylan[/name] song, and the potential for the nn [name]Icey[/name].
I love the suggestions of [name]Sigrid[/name], and think I like [name]Sidra[/name] better. I would love a name that means sky or star.
[name]Liesl[/name] was unfortunately nixed by the hubby months ago but remains a favorite.
[name]Petra[/name] I love!! I’m a geologist so this one is esp. great.
And [name]Tilda[/name]/[name]Mathilde[/name] is a common danish name so this would make my mom very very pleased, and I love the nickname [name]Tillie[/name].
So many of the other names look great but I worry about nicknames (ie. [name]Tamsin[/name] --> HATE the nn [name]Tammy[/name]).
Thanks everyone - these are some great & different names.
PS the last name is [name]Kelly[/name] – that’s why the restriction on “ee” at the end. I just don’t like the sound of [name]Stella[/name] [name]Kelly[/name] or [name]Estelle[/name] [name]Kelly[/name].
Yay! I’m glad you like [name]Petra[/name]. I’ve always loved it! I also have a soft spot for [name]Peta[/name] for a girl, but I have an uncle [name]Peter[/name] so that wouldn’t work for me.
[name]Seren[/name] (which I put in my list) means ‘star’ in Welsh btw. It’s SEH-ren
I love [name]Petra[/name]. Recently I met a lady named [name]Petra[/name] at a party. She was [name]German[/name], and her daughter’s name is [name]Nevada[/name].
[name]Mica[/name] is a fun mineral name!
Additional Scandinavian names you might want to consider:
[name]Sigrid[/name] (like [name]Astrid[/name] but not)
[name]Suvi[/name]
[name]Siri[/name]
[name]Hanne[/name] (pronounced Hahn-nee)
or other choices such as [name]Saskia[/name], [name]Elle[/name], [name]Mariel[/name], [name]Mireille[/name]…
another idea that you might like is looking up the model page on NYMAG.com because they list a lot of models that are from Norway, [name]Sweden[/name], Finland, Denmark… all over the world, and some of them are really lovely (and very different) names!
Best of luck!
[name]Isis[/name]: [name]ISMAY[/name], [name]IONE[/name]
[name]Briar[/name]: [name]BRIONY[/name] (okay, I know this ends in an “ee” sound, but it’s such a great substitute for [name]Briar[/name]!)
[name]Astrid[/name]: [name]AISLINN[/name] (pronound “[name]ASH[/name]-ling”)
[name]Signe[/name]: [name]SARAI[/name]
[name]Lux[/name]: [name]LUZ[/name]
[name]Skye[/name]: [name]EIR[/name] (pronounced “air”), [name]SOLEIL[/name] (means “sun”; pronounced “sole-[name]LAY[/name]”)
[name]Just[/name] wanted to let everyone know. There is a site called nymbler.com where you can type in name suggestions and it will generate names that are inspired by your list. So, for example, I typed in [name]Astrid[/name] since you like the idea but not the name and it came up with: [name]Annelise[/name], [name]Katarina[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Inge[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Frieda[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Sigrid[/name], [name]Meta[/name], [name]Johanna[/name]… And you can keep searching and keep adding name inspirations. It’s nice to use in conjunction with this sight.
Oh, and I know a [name]Mica[/name] (she pronounces is Me-cah though) and I’ve always liked it.
Hey again, so I typed all the names you initially posted into that site I mentioned earlier. Here are some more suggestions. I’m sure there will be some repeats since there are so many names already listed, but here we go:
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Kendall[/name]
[name]Sage[/name]
[name]Jade[/name]

[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Estrella[/name]
[name]Estella/name
[name]Riya[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name]

Names are so fun. lol. Good luck and keep us posted.
