I think it’s repetitive, so I’m not a fan. I think every kid should have their own name and there’s a lot of options to choose from.

It’s not horrible, I know families who all share the same middle (or even the same first but go by nicknames or middles) so it’s not unheard of, But unimaginative imo, there’s sooo many names out there why use the same one twice?

I agree with the others that there are so many names, why use the same one twice? I can see maybe siblings sharing a middle name, but for one child to have the first name of the other’s middle name seems weird to me. I personally didn’t want my kids’ names to be that similar at all.

Not to my taste, but I grew up with the same middle as all three of my siblings and we’re totally fine.

I totally get it if siblings share a middle because it’s a family tradition or something, but in general I would use different names so kids feel individual.

Personally, the only exceptions are passing down names to their children from a line of that name (My friend Will’s dad is named [name_m]William[/name_m] and so is his grandpa, great grandpa, and great great grandpa. Basically there were 5 [name_m]Williams[/name_m] and each named their first son [name_m]William[/name_m], except they all went by different things like [name_m]Will[/name_m], [name_m]Bill[/name_m], and 2 went by their middle names) or having kids share a family last name. I know many siblings who share their mom’s maiden name as their middle name and don’t have their own middle name. To have your kids share names between them is like being named after your sibling and it seems unoriginal. It’s a no for me

I think it’s fine if it’s an honour name or has some other significance behind it.
Maya’s daughters are named after her late mother [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] Riperton, who was an amazing singer and died at the age of only 31. So I completely understand why she chose those names.

I’m not a fan. I think kids should have their own names, though if it was an honour as a middle, i think it could work

Ohh now knowing the context I actually think this was really sweet! Especially since her mother passed away early and so the connection with [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] will really show her love!

I think its sort of cool when siblings have an extra connection like that… Calling it “unoriginal” seems sort of harsh given that most names aren’t original to begin with.
