Revisiting Jack

I’ve been tossing around some combos, lately, to replace my current one for [name_m]Jack[/name_m] ([name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Cole[/name_m], atm). The significance between [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u] are both really personal, and I love them, so they stay, but I waffle back and forth on loving [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and just being bored with him, so I figured I’d get some opinions. Are any of these worth demoting [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Cole[/name_m]? Or is [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Cole[/name_m] pretty great? When I first discovered [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Cole[/name_m], I liked [name_m]Cole[/name_m] because [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u] were so meaningful, and I really liked [name_m]Cole[/name_m], and I liked that it didn’t have any expectations. [name_m]Cole[/name_m]'s just cuddly and sweet. He doesn’t have to live up to the 15 other Johns/Jacks in my family tree. He doesn’t have to be brave and heroic and cool like [name_u]August[/name_u] was in honor of. It was his own special identity. But the more I look at [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Cole[/name_m] over the years, the less sure I am of [name_m]Cole[/name_m]. I still like it, but do I love it? It almost has taken on a filler feeling, and I always promised myself I’d never do filler, because I hated my own filler MN.

Anywho. The names I’m tossing around this time:

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] (le sigh. Mr. [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]. le sigh. Need I say more?)
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Grant[/name_m] (no real significance; I just really love [name_m]Grant[/name_m])
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Hale[/name_m] (fairly new thought, but I remember being obsessed with historical spy stories when I was in middle school, and [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] [name_m]Hale[/name_m] was one of my favorites!)
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] ([name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] has some pretty cool ties to my sister’s name and mine)
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] ([name_f]Laura[/name_f] Ingalls [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]! [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] Wilde!)
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] ([name_u]Rhys[/name_u] isn’t a family name, per se, but it has several ties to my family that I like)

I’m sure there are others, but I always seem to forget half my combos when I go to make this thread. I’ve been tossing these around for a while now, and still can’t seem to figure out where I stand. I’m hesitant about [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], because of the ties to [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] (LOST) and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] (Now You See Me), but I still really like them as combos, and people seem to think it’s not too big of a deal, so I’m not sure.

Anyway. Thoughts? I’ll come back to edit in other combos if I remember them. I’m certainly open to suggestions if you think of something I might like. This is just what I’m working with right now.

Thanks, Berries!

My favorite is [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m]. It’s not even because I like [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] the most. The flow just feels off when you put a one or two syllable name after [name_u]August[/name_u].

My favorites are -

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Hale[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] being my favorite. And I do not think it is because I have [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] on my short list. I think the whole combo is very handsome with a side of fun and spunky.

I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Cole[/name_m] is a great name. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Hale[/name_m] is really nice too.

I like [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Cole[/name_m] too. And [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. I don’t think you need to worry about the [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] or [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] ties because of the [name_u]August[/name_u] in between, plus how often will people be saying the full name?

Thanks, ladies!

[name_f]Emily[/name_f], you think so? I don’t know, I have always been a wee bit hesitant about it because it seems like something’s racing to the end of something. Maybe it’s a bit ridiculous. But the whole Duh, Duh-Duh, Duh-Duh-Duh, and as you’re speading up as you say more syllables… it just sounds (or, at least, it makes the impression in my mind!) of a race horse shooting out the gate and racing to who knows what. (It’s a name, let’s enjoy it!) ha. Ridiculous. I know. But that’s why I’m a wee bit hesitant there. I do love me some Mr. [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], though.

I don’t know; I’m still not sure about [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]. le sigh. If I never would have “seen” them, I never would have cared, but now I can’t seem to unsee them. le sigh. I am really seeming to like [name_m]Hale[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] this time around, though…

I think I’ve got it down to [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Hale[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. For now. Any preferences with those? And even more importantly–any other great literary or historical namesakes? I just feel like the more I look at these, the more lacklustre they become…

I’d go with [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], it just works and I love unexpected [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] is in this combo. I think looking at your other options certainly does make [name_m]Cole[/name_m] look like a filler middle name. [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Hale[/name_m] seem odd together. [name_u]August[/name_u] makes me think of summer and sunshine, and then [name_m]Hale[/name_m] just seems cold and wintery. Not that people would hear his middle names too often.

Although, the more I look at [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], the more I like them.

I’m kind of torn between [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], I think.
