We have really fallen in love with the name [name_u]Rex[/name_u]. It’s vintage and underused, which is typically our style. The T-[name_u]Rex[/name_u] association doesn’t bother me. I’m a little concerned about how people perceive [name_u]Rex[/name_u] as a dogs name only. [name_m]How[/name_m] big of a deal is that? I don’t think it’s too bad because I know way more molly, [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and max dogs, and there are tons of humans with those names. Anyway, what are your thoughts on [name_u]Rex[/name_u]? And is it useable for a human? Full name would be [name_u]Rex[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m].
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] is much more ‘dog name’ to me than [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_u]Sam[/name_u], and [name_u]Max[/name_u]. Partly because those three names are really popular for humans whereas [name_u]Rex[/name_u] isn’t. I mean, [name_u]Rex[/name_u] is still used as it’s #632 out of 1000, so I’d say it could definitely work on a human, but it just isn’t my cup of tea. I’d go with a longer MN to balance it out but that’s a personal preference
I adore [name_u]Rex[/name_u]! I think it’s emminently usable on a child. Why not? Because dogs in the past used to be named [name_u]Rex[/name_u]? Who cares! I say use [name_u]Rex[/name_u]. And [name_u]Rex[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is handsome & smooth.
I don’t think it’s very usable, but I like how [name_u]Rex[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] sounds.
I think it’s absolutely adorable! Cute for a kid, and I think it would translate well into adulthood. I’ve never known a person or dog named [name_u]Rex[/name_u]. I don’t think it’s any more a “dog name” than [name_u]Max[/name_u]. And I think if there’s ever a “t-rex” association with his friends, it will be a positive thing for little boys
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] is cute and spunky. Works well on an adult, as well. I tend to prefer it as a nn a bit more than a full name, but it works just fine as a full name, too. I don’t think it sounds like a dog name. Unless you’re calling your son Fido, I think you’re ok in that regard.
I love it! There’s so much crossover with human and pet names, I don’t think it really matters. [name_u]Rex[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is fantastic.
My coworker has a 2 year old named [name_u]Rex[/name_u] and it fits him to a T. And growing up the father of a friend was named [name_u]Rex[/name_u]. So seeing the name work for both a middle-aged man and a cute little boy makes it very usable regardless of age in my opinion.
And I’ve never met a dog named [name_u]Rex[/name_u], but I know 3 dogs and a cat named [name_u]Max[/name_u].
I love it! It means “king” in Latin.
I know of a [name_u]Rex[/name_u] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u]. Really suits him
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] is a grand traditional name worth a fresh new life.
The actor [name_u]Rex[/name_u] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] was in the film My Fair Lady.
Thanks everyone! I think [name_u]Rex[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] might be the one!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] love love [name_u]Rex[/name_u]! It’s so smart, handsome and snappy.
It’s fairly well-used, though not popular, here in the UK (as are [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f], etc.) so I think people can and certainly should look beyond the dog/cat name thing. As you say, there are many, many more dogs called things like [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_u]Sam[/name_u] than there are canine Rexes, and people still use those names for their children all the time.
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is wonderfully handsome and cool - use it!
[name_u]Rex[/name_u] is all dog to me. Sorry. I can’t imagine it on a person
I know a little boy named [name_u]Rex[/name_u], so yes I would say it works on a human
I like it! I know an adult [name_u]Rex[/name_u], and it doesn’t seem odd to me at all.
It reminds me of [name_u]Rex[/name_u] Stout the author, (who wrote the [name_m]Nero[/name_m] [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m] mysteries) and thus gives me an [name_m]Art[/name_m] Deco feel. It’s quite vintage, but not popular amongst the retro revivals. It’s a lot of name in a small package, but I rather like it.
I love it. What a great under-used name!
I think [name_u]Rex[/name_u] has fallen out of favour for dogs, really. I’ve never met a dog named [name_u]Rex[/name_u], Fido or Spot or any of the ‘stereotypical’ dog names. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I think it would be a cool name for a dog, most dogs these days have ‘person names’ it seems.
It’s OK for a human child, but I think the meaning is a bit grand.
It’s not my style, but I think it’s usable.
I actually know one boy named [name_u]Rex[/name_u] (and zero dogs). He’s probably about 15 now and he was a great kid; sweet and athletic. I think [name_u]Rex[/name_u] fits right in with [name_u]Max[/name_u] and [name_m]Zack[/name_m] and [name_u]Alex[/name_u].
