Getting down to the wire at 36 weeks and still haven’t 100% decided on a boys name.
We are leaning toward [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. We feel like it is more masculine and has a cooler feel than the [name_u]Reece[/name_u] spelling, plus we like it is the original Welsh spelling, but are concerned about the potential misspellings/pronunciations.
[name_u]Reid[/name_u] is a little safer which we like too.
Any thoughts? Middle names suggestions would be great too
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]! This is the most popular spelling of the name and is in the top 500 currently, so I don’t think you’ll run into too many mispronunciation issues. [name_u]Reece[/name_u] is all candy to me, and [name_u]Reid[/name_u] just isn’t as cool as [name_u]Rhys[/name_u].
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is my favorite as well! I prefer [name_u]Reece[/name_u] and [name_u]Reese[/name_u] on a girl and [name_u]Reid[/name_u]'s sound is kind of eh to me. It also makes me think of the phrase “get rid of”
Is [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] pronounced like rice, the food? Or like [name_u]Reece[/name_u]? I’d be careful with y’s in boys’ names. It feminizes them. At the end of the day, though, I’m sure you’ll pick the right name for your family.
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is the easy standout of those names. This spelling is much better than [name_u]Reece[/name_u] [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is a good name!
[name_u]Reece[/name_u], [name_u]Reese[/name_u], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], [name_u]Reid[/name_u] - I love em all! I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those choices. I think my favorite is [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. I wouldn’t worry about pronounciation, I think most people can figure it out
I use to pronounce [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] as rice and didn’t like the spelling but loved the [name_u]Reece[/name_u] spelling. Now I prefer [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] to [name_u]Reece[/name_u]. [name_u]Reid[/name_u] is okay but it doesn’t give me the same feeling as [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]/[name_u]Reece[/name_u]. I think you should just choose a middle name and see which spelling you prefer with that mn.
The only 2 middle names I really like with [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]/[name_u]Reece[/name_u] are [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] or [name_m]Christopher[/name_m].
Technically [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] with welsh pronunciation isn’t the same as [name_u]Reece[/name_u] but I love [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] with the anglicized pronunciation. That’s my favourite. Second would be [name_u]Reid[/name_u], and lastly [name_u]Reece[/name_u].
[name_m]How[/name_m] does Y feminize boys’ names? There’s nothing in the English language that states Y is feminine. English doesn’t have grammatical gender.
I don’t want to dissuade you from [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] if that’s the name you love (because it is honestly such a sweet and beautiful name), but, I can guarantee that they will be called “[name_u]Rice[/name_u]” at least a handful of times. I went to high school with a [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and every time we had a supply and at the beginning of every semester, the teacher would always initially read his name as “[name_u]Rice[/name_u]”, without fail. I never understood the confusion, but it did happen often enough for it to become a running joke (not in a malicious way, more like good-humoured teasing).
[name_u]Reid[/name_u] is adorable, and, like you said, safer than [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. I slightly prefer it over [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], just because it seems less popular to me, but [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is a really great name, and definitely worth choosing
Between [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and [name_u]Reece[/name_u], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] 100%. Between [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and [name_u]Reid[/name_u], I prefer [name_u]Reid[/name_u], but my tastes are a bit safer and the --eece sound just isn’t pleasant to me.
