[name]Hi[/name]! I have friends who are in love with the name [name]Nicholas[/name], but they’re concerned about using it. The father’s name is [name]Ricky[/name] (it’s not short for anything; it’s just [name]Ricky[/name]). Their concern is that [name]Nicholas[/name] will get shortened to [name]Nicky[/name], and they’re worried about the fact that their son’s name will rhyme with his father’s. Most of us think this isn’t too much of an issue, but my friend asked me to put it out there, so…
Can they name their son [name]Nicholas[/name] knowing that he may have a nickname that’s so close to his father’s? Is [name]Nicky[/name]/[name]Ricky[/name] too much?
They should use the nn [name]Nico[/name] - it’s so spunky and cute!! As long as they enforce a different nn (even just [name]Nick[/name]), [name]Nicholas[/name] is a fine name for them to use.
I think it is fine. Most [name]Nicholas[/name] that I know go by [name]Nick[/name], not [name]Nicky[/name]. In fact, [name]Nicky[/name] is usually feminine here, short for [name]Nicole[/name]. Like previous poster said that can use [name]Nico[/name] or even [name]Cole[/name].
I think [name]Nicolas[/name] is fine I’d just try to avoid the nn [name]Nicky[/name] is all. I like [name]Nico[/name] and even [name]Cole[/name] as alternatives.
ditto, I don’t know any [name]Nicholas[/name]’ that go by [name]Nicky[/name], most go just to [name]Nick[/name], and if that’s too close for them they could call him [name]Nico[/name] or [name]Cole[/name]
