Riddle Me a Name

:face_with_monocle: If solving riddles and picking up vibes had a baby… it would be this game.

:hibiscus: : Basically, one person describes a name metaphorically, blurs the answer as a spoiler, and the next person tries to guess it.

:brain: For those of you (like me) who have to get specific instructions or their brains will implode…

here's a guide

Step 1: First person picks a name.
Step 2: First person describes the name with mystery and metaphors, and with whatever level of seriousness or quirkiness that they want.
Step 3: First person writes the name down but blurs it as a spoiler so the second person can’t see it.
Step 4: Second person writes down their guess, then unblurs the name and writes down if they were right or wrong (with or without a reaction, like “OMG I was so close!” or “Wow, I couldn’t have been more wrong.”)
Step 5: Second person picks their name, and the cycle starts over again.

:owl: This is honestly just for fun. If you guess wrong, that’s cool. If you guess right, that’s cool. So get creative, get wild, get super philosophical, whatever works for you.

:star: First riddle will be in the comments!

This name sounds like a pebble rolling down a hill. It feels like running your hand over a bumpy, wooden surface that has been smoothed over time by many hands. It’s like an old pair of jeans, so soft and used so much that it contours perfectly to your shape; but now it’s really faded and the hems are falling apart and frankly, hundreds of people have the same pair of jeans, so even though they’re comfy and familiar, you get kind of bored of them; so you shove them into the back of a drawer or donate them to a thrift store, where you or someone else can find them years later and fall in love all over again…

[name_f]Emily[/name_f]

[name_f]Janie[/name_f] (I was not close at all, though I feel like [name_f]Janie[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] would be nice as sisters!)

This name is sweet and simple, like a summery white dress with a pink bow on it. It’s running through a meadow of wildflowers and splashing in a cold stream on a warm day. It’s ice skates, roller skates, a soccer ball, or a skateboard, as well as paint brushes, water colors, colored pencils, and classic novels. It’s versatile like a pair of clean white tennis shoes, and timeless like a simple gold necklace.

[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]? (completely wrong haha)

This name suits a witch, but not of the dark kind,

She lives in a cottage, with stars in her mind.

Gentle yet firm, this name is not for the weak,

This fair maiden’s name, could be considered antique.

I had too much fun with the rhyme itself haha.

[name_f]Agatha[/name_f]? (Nope. That name fits much better! I love that you made an actual riddle!! Well done.)

I got a little carried away with mine

This name cannot be stolen, for it is hidden away,
In a box sealed shut no matter what you say.
The person who holds the key,
Who lives in a different world than you and me,
Is far too brilliant with too much fame
To allow anyone else to use his name.

And yet, some of us feel the spark of fire,
A burning, stirring, incessant desire
To use this name that warms up our soul
Like a hissing, sizzling, vibrant coal.
That’s how it sounds–like an urgent whisper,
Then a sudden crack!–to the avid listener.

Metal and stone, breeze and water.
It’s the worst of the world made a little bit softer.
[name_u]Thunder[/name_u] and music, a symphony of rain.
It’s beauty and loss, knowledge and pain.
This name bleeds with history, with wonder and rage…
Perhaps all of that should remain on the page.

[name_u]Or[/name_u] perhaps, if you’re brave, use it as a middle.
You’re the parent, right? Indulge a little!
So what if it’s strange, if some people frown?
You’re giving your child a gift, like a crown,
A treasure to wear, a mystery to solve,
If you think about it, it’s really not that strange at all.

Honestly, the first stanza made me think Voldemort. But my real guess is going to be [name_m]Aslan[/name_m]! (Okay, I was totally wrong, but I did get that dark literary vibe! Feeling proud!!)

This name is yellow light in spring. It is joyous and honest, a lovely bouquet of flowers, plucked with a smile. It is soft as linen and vibrant as laughter. It is kind, caring, excited, and thoughtful. It is a cozy, comfortable room, drenched in sunlight, warm against your cheeks and arms. It is peaceful and familiar, like a bed of flowers and grasses you pass every day on the same walk. It is friendly, and will always lift your spirits, always remind you of a reason to smile.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]? (Darn. Fantastic imagery, by the way. And I’m so glad you got the vibe I was going for in the last one!)

This name is the smell of old books in a private library, the steam from a fresh cup of coffee, and the glint of light on a pair of vintage glasses. It is the weight of a warrior’s shield as he sweats and fights and protects his village. It is a mischievous smile, a curious tilt of the head, a bold determination to be no one but yourself. It yells out into the unknown, I am here! I am alive! I am free!
