So what are your thoughts on this name? If you came across a little boy named [name]Ridge[/name] what would you think? I like it but am not sure about it because it is almost unheard of as far as “regular” names go. Different and unique is one thing but “weird” is something totally different.
Hmm…it is a nice enough sound and I wonder if it’s a family name.
My first thought was “ruffles have ridges”.
My second thought was of several anatomical terms that refer to ridges.
My third thought was fridge.
I guess these aren’t the worst out there, but I’m not sure I’d recommend it.
I bet it gets heard wrong as [name]Rich[/name] pretty often.
I don’t know. It’s trying a little too hard for me, I guess. It’s sort of vaguely a nature name, but a lot of non-nature things are referred to as ‘ridges’ so it doesn’t really have the strong, masculine feel of [name]Stone[/name] or [name]Flint[/name]. Also, it doesn’t have the benefit of being a surname (like [name]Stone[/name], [name]Ash[/name], [name]Thorne[/name], etc.), that makes those names seem more substantial.
And it makes me think of ‘rigid.’
It makes me think soap opera.
To be honest, it’s a stretch for me. I don’t hate it, but it just feels like one of those trying too hard names. That said, I don’t roll my eyes, even privately, when I hear it.
I know a [name]Ridge[/name]. 2 actually. One a boy and one a grown man. I think it is just okay. We also have a friend named [name]Rich[/name] and when I say [name]Rich[/name], my son thinks that I said [name]Ridge[/name].
I’ve never met a [name]Ridge[/name] in person, but I know of one and have corresponded with him on the internet. He’s of college age now.
My impression as a guy was that it was a pretty cool kind of name actually - the type of name other guys would look at and wish they had a cool name like that
I think soap opera. Particularly, the Bold and the Beautiful which had a character named [name]Ridge[/name].
I think it would be neat to meet a little boy named [name]Ridge[/name] It makes me think of other word names like [name]Crew[/name], [name]Gray[/name], [name]Matt[/name], [name]Clay[/name], [name]Birch[/name] etc. It has a nice masculine sound and is easy to recognize and spell. [name]Even[/name] though there are more uses to “[name]Ridge[/name]” then just nature/a name, the same can be said for many other names ([name]Matt[/name], [name]Sully[/name], [name]Harry[/name], [name]Grant[/name], [name]Pierce[/name], [name]Leif[/name], [name]Wolf[/name], [name]Reed[/name], [name]Will[/name] etc.)
I love it cause i had a huge crush on [name]Ridge[/name] the soap opera character when I was little! I also think it’s a solid one syllable name that you don’t hear very often. Those are pretty hard to come by. The only problem I have is that I can’t picture it on a baby or a toddler. But love it for any other age
I generally like word names, and I like [name]Ridge[/name]. It makes me think of mountains, so I would assume the parents were outdoorsy people.
I actually went to school with a [name]Ridge[/name], though he was a visible minority and came to the school as a new student part way through my time there, so I just assumed it was an ethnic name. He was very outgoing and hence popular, and I don’t think he had too much trouble – certainly brothers [name]Mario[/name] and [name]Luigi[/name] got a lot more hassle! It’s not my style at all, but I don’t have such a hard time imagining it on a real person as I might otherwise.
Thank you all for your honest feedback. I’m still not sure where I stand on the name but at least I know if I’m swayed in that direction my son won’t be looked at like a freakazoid.
