Riley- has it gone pink now? AUSSIES?

[name]Love[/name] this name, remembered how much I like it but realised in US it’s turned pink.
I am in Australia- where it’s way more for boys and sometimes a girl- but will it slowly turn pink here too?

All opinions needed- but especially Aussie berries.

I really love it for a boy! I know plenty of boys with the name [name]Riley[/name]. Most girls spell it [name]Rylee[/name] or [name]Ryleigh[/name] or some other trashy (excuse me) version like that. I think it’s much better suited for a boy, honestly.

I’m American, but to me [name]Riley[/name] is all boy. I’ve yet to meet a Riley.

That’s a GREAT start. Not too pink after all?
I have paired it in my mind with another favourite: [name]Riley[/name] [name]Cormac[/name]

I’m Australian. I know several little boy Rileys and not one girl [name]Riley[/name]. I would think [name]Riley[/name] was weird on a girl. That said, Aussie parents do tend to follow US/UK naming trends pretty closely in general, so it’s hard to say what the future might be like.

If Aussie is anything like NZ then I would say yes it is turning pink!! recently had 3 friends/family members name their daughters [name]Riley[/name].

sigh why do people use boy names on girls?

I’m an American, and I’ve only met girl [name]Riley[/name]'s. I still view it as masculine, but I’m not sure how it’ll go in Australia.

I’m Aussie. I think it’s still unisex. My best friend’s son is named [name]Riley[/name].

However, I think it’s become too popular and I don’t really like the name at all.

[name]Riley[/name] is all boy to me. I’m in the US.

I’m an Aussie, I know two boy Rileys and no girls. I like it better for a boy.

I’m Scottish and I have only ever met one [name]Riley[/name] and that was a boy. I hate it when masculine names turn pink, it’s all the good ones as well like [name]Finley[/name], [name]Rory[/name], [name]Cameron[/name] and [name]Charlie[/name] that are turning pink.

The only [name]Riley[/name] I have ever met is my second cousin (boy) who is 5 now…So personally I think its masculine. However it is an unisex name so I wouldn’t be all too surprised if I met a girl with this name.

Here are some stats:

NSW (boys)
2009-504 born rank 10
2010-364 born rank 20
2011-355 born rank 20
(girls) no rank any year (remember in NSW it must be used more than 12 times to be given a ranking)

ACT (boys)
2010-30 born rank 17
2011-20 born rank 25
2012-23 born rank 21

(girls) no ranking any year (to be ranked it has be used more than 5 times)

TAS (boys)
2010-42 born rank 8
2011-37 rank 11

(girls) 2010-3 born rank 222
2011 0 (no complete data for that year but it was not in the top 116 names)–names must be used 6 times or more to be ranked

[name]VIC[/name]

2012-9 girls born rank 539
217 boys born rank 25

It could slowly turn pink, who really knows but I honestly don’t see this happening until a decade or two has passed (if it does happen). I think names like [name]Darcy[/name] and [name]Charli[/name] will probably go pink before [name]Riley[/name] here in Australia, if that indeed happens.

But should it really matter? Must we agonize that it mighthappen? It isn’t the end of the world. I’m not implying that this thread is all about that, but some threads on this site do.

I think so I would not suggest using it for a boy as I can see it crossing over, (and don’t like it for a girl except as a mn).

Good research sunshine kid it clearly shows that it is for the boys here but I have my doubts for the future

Thanks everyone and especially for the Aussie perspective!!!

[name]Sunshine[/name] kid- that was AMAZING info- thanks alot. Funny how it did appear in Tassie and [name]Victoria[/name]- but not NSW.
I am thinking perhaps [name]Ryan[/name] instead- less likely to turn pink.

All names are turning pink aren’t they? [name]Even[/name] [name]Keith[/name] and [name]Dylan[/name], which I viewed as completely male names are being used on girls. It’s ridiculous, I think. I like [name]Riley[/name] bot a boy, and one or two of my friends were liking that as a name for their sons. I’m Aussie, though I might move to [name]New[/name] Zealand, and I’ve never met a girl [name]Riley[/name].

If you like [name]Ryan[/name] as much as [name]Riley[/name], then go with it, but I don’t think you should not name your child something just because of the fear some crazy people will use it as a pink name.

I know, right? Though I think it might be because the NSW data only shows names used 12 times or more. [name]Riley[/name] was used 3/9 times in TAS and [name]VIC[/name] so I’m guessing the number is around the same in NSW.

Since [name]Riley[/name] is still a pretty popular name for boys, I wouldn’t say it’s “gone pink” in the US. I’d consider it to be a “green” name.

[name]Even[/name] though it’s popular for girls here in the US, I wouldn’t say that means it’s going to be popular for girls in Australia. There are a lot of boy-names-for-girls used here that are strictly for boys in Australia.

In Aus it’s definitely still a unisex name, leaning more towards boys.

I’m Aussie and I only know boys with this name

I think it’s too masculine for a girl.
