I overheard a mom calling her daughter Rilyn and I thought it sounded nice, but I don’t see much info about that name. I’m likely spelling it wrong because I can think of a dozen spellings (Rylyn, Rilynn, Rylin, etc.), or maybe it’s a made-up name and there’s no consensus spelling.
If this is a ‘real’ name or not, how would you spell it? Thanks! ([name_m]Just[/name_m] making a list, for now.)
[name_u]Rylan[/name_u] looks the least forced. I know you said you were trying to spell the name off of sound alone, but the other spellings are bound to cause pronunciation/spelling issues the farther you move away from the original.
Could I ask what pronunciation you’re going for? Is it like [name_m]RYE[/name_m]-lin/[name_m]RYE[/name_m]-lun/[name_m]RYE[/name_m]-len, or RILL-in/RILL-uhn/RILL-en?
Thanks for the help. I didn’t know there was a traditional spelling until now. [name_u]Rylan[/name_u] just looks correct! Funny that it never occurred to me as a spelling, I was kinda stuck on -lyn as the ending.
I’ll add this to our name list. Though we may have to consider that there’s already 2 [name_u]Ryan[/name_u]'s in the extended family.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you see [name_u]Rylan[/name_u] as a girl’s name or boy’s?
I see it more as a boys name but in the US it probably wouldn’t be so weird on a girl. If you want a more feminine spelling [name_u]Rylen[/name_u] is an option then still looks mostly real
Thanks for all your opinions and clarification. I tend to love -lyn names, and I’m quite happy this one has the sound but with a different spelling. (Already used a -lyn name with my first!)
