Rip apart my long lists parte deux: Girls!

As I said in the boys thread, you can be TOTALLY honest, I won’t be offended because these are all hypotheticals, not names I’m trying to put on a real child at the mo. :o) I know it’s long… any comments are appreciated!

[name]Ada[/name] or [name]Adah[/name] - which sp. do you prefer?
Aderyn - uh-DEER-in
[name]Augusta[/name]/[name]Augustine[/name] - I prefer -a, he prefers -ine
Avonlea - [name]Ah[/name]-von-[name]LEE[/name] with a short a sound like [name]Cat[/name].

[name]Caroline[/name] * - problem: my stepmom is [name]Carolyn[/name] and we don’t get along all that well.
[name]Catriona[/name] - [name]Cat[/name]-ree-OH-nuh
[name]Charlea[/name] - pron. like [name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Clodagh[/name] - [name]CLAUDE[/name]-uh
[name]Darcy[/name] - after my mom, long story.
[name]Dulcinea[/name] - Dull-sin-AY-uh

[name]Roxanna[/name]/[name]Roxanne[/name] - I love this name, always have, he hates it
[name]Sheridan[/name] - NN [name]Dani[/name]. Could we avoid NN [name]Sher[/name]/[name]Cher[/name]?

[name]True[/name] - I love this.
[name]Viola[/name] - Vie-OH-lah

[name]TIA[/name]! :o)

Here are some that I prefer. My advice to you is that you remember names are forever. You don’t want to risk a bitter [name]Candy[/name] or a Fatty named [name]Lil[/name]’ [name]Max[/name]. The name you pick will seem obvious once you pick it. I have a feeling you know which name you love the most. You just want to make sure everyone else loves it too.

I wish you all the best. Motherhood is a beautiful thing you are very blessed
[name]Esther[/name] * - we both say maybe
[name]Hero[/name]-I actually kinda like this
[name]Lorelei[/name] - nickname [name]Loli[/name]?

[name]Josephine[/name] *
Swift - mn only.
[name]True[/name] - same as Swift.

Re: [name]Catriona[/name]:

This is the Irish and Scottish form of [name]Catherine[/name]/[name]Katrina[/name], and while I love the spelling, it is actually just pronounced as such: “Ka-TREE-na”.

I did the same thing I did with your boys, but a lot of the names I left on I don’t love, but one minor tweak and I’m ecstatic about them!! I’m strange like that
[name]Agata[/name] - Make it [name]Agatha[/name] and I love it!
[name]Agnes[/name] - Wonderful
[name]Artemis[/name] - I think I want to study mythology, I love [name]Artemis[/name]
[name]Audra[/name]* - So lovely and pretty and feminine and sweet and…
[name]Augusta[/name]/[name]Augustine[/name] - I love them both equally, but they’re very different stylistically in my head
[name]Beatrix[/name] - I’ve been falling for [name]Beatriz[/name] lately, what do you think of that? prn. [name]BAY[/name]-uh-triz
[name]Blythe[/name] - Maybe he likes it as [name]Blithe[/name]? It looks lighter then
[name]Corinne[/name] - [name]Corinna[/name] is awesome, but I never like [name]Corinne[/name]…
[name]Electra[/name] - [name]Elettra[/name] is lovely, but [name]Electra[/name] is too harsh
[name]Elspeth[/name]* - I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Elspeth[/name], and I think [name]Elsa[/name] would be the perfect nickname!
[name]Etta[/name] - As a nickname for [name]Rosetta[/name]
[name]Faye[/name] - Underused, but maybe a bit dull?
[name]Hero[/name] - I love [name]Hero[/name], but did you know that the Greek pronunciation is HAIR-o rather than HEE-ro?
[name]Hester[/name] - I have to love this, but it’s the Norwegian word for ‘horses’ so I always have to think twice before loving it…
[name]Iris[/name] - I just found her mythological connection, and fell in love again… She was a messenger like [name]Hermes[/name]!
[name]June[/name] - I prefer [name]Junia[/name], how do you feel about [name]Junia[/name]?
[name]Lark[/name] - Awesome name!
[name]Liv[/name] - I think I prefer it as a nickname, but it’s beautiful even still, especially the ‘life’ meaning!
Lightfoot - love it as a middle name!!
[name]Luella[/name] - not too cute at all, but very southern!

[name]Sonya[/name]* - Overlooked [name]Gem[/name]. I don’t think I have to say more…
[name]Sosie[/name] - Cute as hell, but maybe as a nn for [name]Sonya[/name]?
[name]Susannah[/name] - leave out the last h and I love it!
Swift - just don’t use [name]Taylor[/name] as a first name! I love Swift! it’s an awesome word/name!
[name]Sylvie[/name] - [name]Sylvie[/name] is lovely! [name]Just[/name] don’t use [name]Sylvia[/name]!
[name]Temperance[/name] - Have you considered the nn [name]Tansy[/name]?
[name]True[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name], but I feel it’s best as a middle name…
[name]Viola[/name]* - [name]LOVE[/name]!
[name]Winter[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]! but I feel it will drown among [name]Summers[/name] and Autumns, and only grow in popularity… What about [name]Spring[/name]? That’s a slightly larger step for most, but I think you could like it!

Again, I’ll suggest more if you like, but I don’t think that’s your problem… ^^

Here are my HONEST thoughts…

[name]Catriona[/name] - Cool, but that isn’t how you say it! (It’s like [name]Katrina[/name])

[name]Hazel[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it! Vintage chic.
[name]Hero[/name]/[name]Hera[/name] - Like naming your kid [name]King[/name]. And, [name]Hera[/name] is no role model!
[name]Hester[/name] - Prynne? This is like [name]Lester[/name] - ugly. Sorry!

[name]Jemimah[/name] - [name]Jemima[/name] is better, but it reminds me of syrup.
[name]Jette[/name] - [name]Jet[/name] is bad enough, and this reminds me of the VW [name]Jetta[/name].
[name]Jewel[/name] - [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Opal[/name] are fine, [name]Jewel[/name] and [name]Crystal[/name] are not.
[name]Josephine[/name] - Like it…
[name]Julia[/name]/[name]Julienne[/name] - [name]Julia[/name] is lovely, but save [name]Julian[/name] for a boy.
[name]June[/name] - Middle name only. [name]June[/name] as a first name is dated.
[name]Juniper[/name] - Great middle name…
[name]Katherine[/name] - A bit awkward, then, yes? Like [name]Catherine[/name] more…
[name]Keira[/name] - Cute and spunky.
Keladry - Is this a name? Not for me…
[name]Kimber[/name] - [name]Timber[/name]! Ugh.
[name]Kinsey[/name] - [name]Kinsey[/name], Kensey, [name]Kinsley[/name], Kensley = yuck.

[name]Sage[/name] - Like this with [name]Rowan[/name], but it takes the right kid.

Okay! Sorry for my sometimes-rude, but honest commentary. You have a wide range of styles here! Good luck!

[name]Lemon[/name]

You said be honest. I’m a little too good at that. What little tact I may have tried to throw in, I haven’t, per your request.

[name]Ada[/name] - prefer this spelling; good alternative to [name]Ava[/name]

[name]Alice[/name] - I think of the [name]Brady[/name] Bunch and [name]Alice[/name] in Wonderland
[name]Annabel[/name] - I think of [name]Annabel[/name]'s wish, a cute [name]Christian[/name] movie about the legend/myth/rumor that animals can talk on [name]Christmas[/name] night. I like it.

[name]Artemis[/name] - cute unisex name

[name]Caroline[/name] - ho hum.
[name]Catriona[/name] - yuck

[name]Clodagh[/name] - unless you’re living somewhere familiar with this, I wouldn’t use it!
[name]Corinne[/name] - cute.
[name]Darcy[/name] - I would like to see some combos with this incorporated; Pride and Prejudice reference; (but don’t name the baby after your mom unless you want to)

[name]Harper[/name] - it’s okay
[name]Harriet[/name] - bleh.
[name]Hazel[/name] - cute

[name]Hester[/name] - no.
[name]Hestia[/name] - ick.
[name]Imogen[/name] - better than the previous two ideas
[name]Iris[/name] - cute as a middle name only
[name]Isadore[/name] - mn only

[name]Jette[/name] - I like [name]Rocket[/name] better.
[name]Jewel[/name] - I have a dog named [name]Jewel[/name]. For a human, it’s just too sparkly/gaudy/girly.

[name]Julia[/name]/[name]Julienne[/name] - okay
[name]June[/name] - depends on surname
[name]Juniper[/name] - cuter than [name]June[/name]
[name]Katherine[/name] - the old flame rule stands. [name]Katherine[/name] should be O-U-T!

Keladry - “what?!?” that’s what she’ll be hearing her whole life
[name]Kimber[/name] - most people will want to call her [name]Kimberly[/name]
[name]Kinsey[/name] - most people will think it’s [name]McKenzie[/name]
[name]Lark[/name]/Larkspur - [name]Lark[/name] is nice, but Larkspur!–oh boy–feels prickly
[name]Leighton[/name] - absolutely yucky. I don’t care if it’s pron. [name]LEE[/name]-TON or [name]LAY[/name]-TON, it’s hideous.
[name]Leonie[/name]/[name]Leona[/name] - cute.
[name]Liv[/name] - cute but extremely short

[name]Lorelei[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name] - love [name]Lorelai[/name], hate the nn [name]Lola[/name]!
[name]Lorraine[/name] - old
[name]Luella[/name] - ugly.
[name]Lyndon[/name] - I like it better knowing where you came up with it.
[name]Lynette[/name] - it’s alright. There are some -ette names that are cuter. If you came up with some cute combos I might like it better.
[name]Lyndsay[/name]/Lynley - hard to spell. [name]How[/name] about [name]Ashlyn[/name], [name]Brooklyn[/name], etc.?
[name]Mabel[/name] - old.
[name]Maia[/name] - don’t like it. sounds like paella

[name]Piper[/name] - can be done right
[name]Pippa[/name] - better than [name]Piper[/name], JMO.
[name]Rachael[/name] - okay. I like the simpler spelling [name]Rachel[/name] better.

[name]Raven[/name] - can be lovely
[name]Rosalie[/name]/[name]Rosalind[/name]/[name]Rose[/name] * - I like the first two, but not [name]Rose[/name] by itself.

Swift - with reference to the country singer?!?
[name]Sylvie[/name] - it’s okay

[name]Trista[/name] - cute
[name]True[/name] - I think it’s better [name]Truly[/name] or [name]Trudy[/name]

[name]Vanessa[/name] - it’s okay
[name]Viola[/name] - love it.
[name]Windsor[/name] - it’s alright. depends on surname, etc.
[name]Winifred[/name] - I like it. I also think [name]Winnie[/name] is cute for a nn.
[name]Winter[/name] - can be done right; can be done very wrong.

P.S. [name]Lemon[/name] - I loved your reply. We’ll have to be friends! [name]Hester[/name] Prynne took me a minute to place, but I laughed pretty hard after I remembered it’s a [name]Scarlet[/name] Letter reference.

Okay, this is going to be verrrry long…

[name]Ada[/name] or [name]Adah[/name]: [name]Ada[/name], no doubt. Otherwise you’re making up a name.

Aderyn: Seems made-up to me… it looks very tryndeigh.

[name]Hero[/name]/[name]Hera[/name] - I love [name]Hero[/name], he thinks it would be a “burden” for a child. - [name]Hero[/name] is… a little excessive.

[name]Sheridan[/name] - NN [name]Dani[/name]. Could we avoid NN [name]Sher[/name]/[name]Cher[/name]?

[name]Susannah[/name] * - he loves, I’m only okay with, but it sounds beautiful with LN.
Swift - mn only.
[name]Tabitha[/name] * - I used to consider this as old as [name]Matilda[/name], a name I’d still never consider. One comic character turned that around somewhat, but I still don’t like it. I’d want to say it with a stress pattern like [name]Samantha[/name]: Sa-[name]MAN[/name]-tha, Ta-BITH-a. But apparently it’s [name]TAB[/name]-ith-a, which is just awful.
[name]Temperance[/name] * - nn Tempe, like the city in AZ.

[name]Winter[/name] - Recalls a [name]Star[/name] Wars character.

[name]Lyndsay[/name]/Lynley - honors my mom
[name]Mabel[/name]: [name]Love[/name]!

[name]Pippa[/name]: I love it as a nickname for [name]Philippa[/name]!

Swift - mn only.

[name]Winifred[/name]: I think it’s great!

Good luck!

[name]Lyndsay[/name] is my name, I’m surprised to see it considered at all, let alone spelled this way. I don’t recommend it, I’ve hated it my whole life!

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Grey[/name],
I’d just like to 100% clarify for anyone interested that [name]Clodagh[/name] is definitely pronounced [name]CLO[/name]-da the emphasis being on the clo just like chloe and finishing with a soft da as in brenda. I love this name and as Irish names go it is really unique sounding.I would’t worry about pronounciation issues since it is a fairly straigh-forward two syllable name.It is a river in both Tipperary and wexford in [name]Ireland[/name](the Clody ).I think it’s a really warm and pretty
feminine name.[name]Roisin[/name] [name]Murphy[/name] the pop artist and a very stylish socialite living in uk recently chose this name for baby.Best of luck.

Wow! :o) Thanks everybody for all your comments (and for clarifying [name]Catriona[/name] for me… I never knew I was pronouncing it wrong!)! I know it was a super long list and a lot of the things you said I agree with or at least they confirmed my suspicions of how that name would be taken.

I [name]LOVE[/name] looking at other people’s lists! I’m happy when I see one as diverse as yours because my style is pretty varied too! I’ll comment on some and delete the ones I just hate (you said be honest).

[name]Ada[/name]- HAS to be spelled this way…the h is unneccessary and clutters a beautiful name!

Aderyn - I would [name]LOVE[/name] it if it was [name]Adelyn[/name] (add-uh-lyn)

[name]Agnes[/name]- ok, I said I would delete it if I hated it, but I just had to say No, No, No to this one…sounds snively and old at the same time!

[name]Alice[/name]- on my list too  It’s my gran’s name, and I love it

[name]Arabella[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] as an alt to the too popular [name]Isabella[/name]!

[name]Artemis[/name]- on my list (see the post titled “sib-set”) I [name]LOVE[/name] any and all Greek names- my children will all have at least one of their names from Greek mythology.

[name]Avalon[/name]- on my list for both the referance to [name]King[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] and for the [name]Ava[/name] nn!

Avonlea - I like it, but it would be a prettier signature sp Avonly

[name]Blair[/name]- as a mn, yes…but some people might be reminded of the [name]Blair[/name] Witch Project

[name]Caroline[/name] * - problem: my stepmom is [name]Carolyn[/name] and we don’t get along all that well. (beautiful name, but I wouldn’t use any name that had such a negative connotation!)

[name]Darcy[/name] - Huge fan of this one! [name]Darcy[/name] [name]Adelyn[/name] or [name]Darcy[/name] [name]Avalon[/name] is pretty to me

[name]Elodie[/name]- YES! It sounds very musical.

[name]Esme[/name]- It’s going to become [name]WAY[/name] popular b/c of Twilight, but I love it anyway.

[name]Etta[/name]- For [name]Etta[/name] [name]James[/name]? Awesome!

[name]Harper[/name]- [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name]? Awesome as well!

[name]Harriet[/name]- [name]Harriett[/name] Tubman? Another fine namesake…

[name]Hazel[/name]- Not unless her eyes are this color.

[name]Hero[/name]/[name]Hera[/name] - I love [name]Hero[/name], he thinks it would be a “burden” for a child. (He sounds like my DH when I suggested a “[name]Hero[/name]” :frowning: but, I like it and [name]Hera[/name]- which is on my list too)

[name]Hestia[/name]- I like the meaning- goddess of home and hearth- but, I would only use it as a mn b/c its a little clunky.

[name]Kimber[/name]- this is different, but I like the sound of it…in my opinion, different is good!

[name]Kinsey[/name]- I had this on my original list and everyone bashed me b/c it “seemed invented”…who cares? It sounds cool!

Lightfoot - I could see this as an offbeat, cool mn!

[name]Lyndon[/name] - comb. of my moms name ([name]Lynn[/name]) and grandpas name ([name]Donald[/name])…I like the meaning it holds for you, but I automaticcaly thought of President [name]Lyndon[/name] B. [name]Johnson[/name]…not a problem for me, but something you might want to think about.

[name]Pearl[/name]- love it for a mn…it is on my list, and was my [name]Nanny[/name]'s mn

[name]Rosalie[/name]/[name]Rosalind[/name]/[name]Rose[/name]- what about [name]Roslyn[/name]? It gives him a [name]Rose[/name] and honors your mom!

[name]Rowan[/name]- [name]Love[/name] it, but prefer it on a boy.

[name]Roxanna[/name]/[name]Roxanne[/name] - I don’t like these, but [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Roxy[/name]!

[name]Scarlett[/name]- “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn!”

[name]Sheridan[/name] - On my list…but I hadn’t thought about people shortening it, and I wouldn’t want a “[name]Sher[/name]” either!

[name]Susannah[/name]- [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Lynn[/name] would be beautiful…what about [name]Savannah[/name]?

Swift - [name]LOVE[/name] for a mn!
[name]Trista[/name]- my newest “favorite” name!

[name]True[/name] - I love this. (ME TOO!!!)

[name]Ursa[/name]- I like the celestial reference, but it reminds me too much of [name]Ursula[/name] in The [name]Little[/name] Mermaid

Hmm, I noticed not a lot of starred names this time, so looks like convincing Daddy could be a problem even if you do “decide” on one of these, but here goes . . .

[name]Ada[/name] or [name]Adah[/name] - DEFINITELY, UNEQUIVOCALLY [name]Ada[/name] (just to be entirely clear, NOT [name]Adah[/name]). Ok, now that that’s out of the way I really like [name]Ada[/name] (of course, I also see the charm in [name]Ida[/name]), but I could also see the reservation here - it is a bit clunky.
Aderyn - uh-DEER-in without your phonetics I would have started at this name for a long time trying to figure out how I was going to pronounce it; I would NOT have settled on uh-DEER-in and I would not have liked the sound of what I said AT ALL, nor do I like the sound of uh-DEER-in much better. Let this one go, and don’t look back. (Perhaps you would like [name]Adrienne[/name]?)
[name]Agata[/name] - is this supposed to be [name]Agatha[/name]? Either way, no need to discuss - it’s ugly!
[name]Agnes[/name] - It even uglier! I know vintage names are charming, but this one wasn’t charming even in its day . . .
[name]Alice[/name] - lots of people love this one, and it is sweet with the great [name]Alice[/name] in Wonderland reference. Personally, I don’t like the sound of it or the way it looks on paper (I see the words “a lice” but if you love it, you should keep it on the list).
[name]Annabel[/name] - This is pretty, very frilly, but pretty. I prefer just [name]Anna[/name].
[name]Anouk[/name] - I like this, but if you’re not French, it seems a bit odd.
[name]Arabella[/name] - I [name]DO[/name] NOT like this (wasn’t she one of [name]Cinderella[/name]'s step sisters?)
[name]Artemis[/name] -Too harsh for a girl’s name.
[name]Audra[/name] - Cute, but it’s like the awkward, acne-faced, braces-wearing little sister of the beautiful and elegant [name]Audrey[/name]. Use [name]Audrey[/name] instead! (Really!)
[name]Augusta[/name]/[name]Augustine[/name] - I prefer -a, he prefers -ine - I’m with you in the a over ine debate here. I do like this, quite a bit actually, but I would save [name]August[/name] or [name]Augustin[/name] for a boy instead.
[name]Avalon[/name] - Oh dear!
Avonlea - [name]Ah[/name]-von-[name]LEE[/name] with a short a sound like [name]Cat[/name]. - There’s so many bad things going on here. From [name]Avon[/name] the brand to the oddly spelled lea . . . this is a no go.
[name]Beatrix[/name] - Oh, that’s special!
[name]Blair[/name] - I do like this, but it’s unisex and just not the prettiest name for a girl (maybe in the middle?). Though I could see it’s appeal in a combo like [name]Blair[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] - sounds crisp and fresh . . .maybe keep this for now.
[name]Blythe[/name] - I love, he hates. Oh, I’m so sorry; I [name]LOVE[/name] it too! But if he hates it, you know what you have to do.
[name]Bridget[/name] - Not bad, but not my personal style. Sounds too cutesty.
[name]Brynna[/name] - No, no, this is not the direction you need to be heading.
[name]Carey[/name] - Sounds like a boy’s name, and not a nice one. Could be a good nn though for the beautiful [name]Caroline[/name].
[name]Caroline[/name] * - problem: my stepmom is [name]Carolyn[/name] and we don’t get along all that well. Aha, well, there you have it; so much for my suggestion above. As a rule, don’t use a name this close to the name of someone else who’s that close a family member unless you mean to honor them (clearly, you don’t).
[name]Catriona[/name] - [name]Cat[/name]-ree-OH-nuh - Not my favorite, especially with that odd pronunciation.
[name]Chanel[/name] - classy as a brand; the opposite as a name.
[name]Charlea[/name] - pron. like [name]Charlie[/name] - Oh no; you don’t want to do this. Name her [name]Charlotte[/name]. Call her [name]Charlie[/name]. Spell it correctly.
[name]Claudia[/name] - Oh, I do love [name]Claudia[/name]! What a wonderful surprise seeing her here! I think this is my favorite so far
[name]Clodagh[/name] - [name]CLAUDE[/name]-uh - Doesn’t hold a candle to [name]Claudia[/name]!
[name]Corinne[/name] - Very elegant! I love this one! I also love [name]Corrina[/name]!
[name]Darcy[/name] - after my mom, long story. Is it long enough that I forget this is an ugly name for a girl by the time you’re done? Probably not.
Diem - I’m really not sure where you’re going with this, and I don’t think I want to know . . .
[name]Dulcinea[/name] - Dull-sin-AY-uh Now, this is very charming. It’s probably too much for most little girls (or grown women) to handle, but I do like it. Another name this reminds me of is [name]Lucinda[/name], but I think that is much more manageable (and it has the [name]Lucy[/name] nn, which is wonderful). Perhaps you would consider that?
[name]Electra[/name] - As in [name]Carmen[/name] [name]Electra[/name]? This is just odd!
[name]Elspeth[/name] - Another charmer. But, I would still with the classic [name]Elizabeth[/name].
[name]Elodie[/name] - Sounds too much like [name]Melody[/name], which sounds to much like [name]Melanie[/name], which makes me wonder if it’s 1975? Maybe you would like [name]Eloise[/name]?
[name]Elsa[/name] - I like this, but I think it could be a hard name to wear. I much prefer [name]Elise[/name]!
[name]Emmeline[/name] - This is pretty, but [name]Emma[/name] and [name]Emily[/name] are so overused that unless this is your one great love, I would quietly slip this off the list.
[name]Esme[/name] - I can see the appeal, but I think it sounds pretentious.
[name]Esther[/name] * - we both say maybe - I can see where the “maybe” comes from. [name]How[/name] about [name]Estelle[/name]? That lightens it up a bit.
[name]Etta[/name] - Oh, I do love [name]Etta[/name]! (It’s like [name]Ada[/name] without the clunkiness). Stands alone, but could also be a nn for a name that ends with Ette (like [name]Odette[/name]).
[name]Faye[/name] - maybe as a middle?
[name]Frances[/name] - Absolutely nothing wrong with this, but it’s a little flat.
[name]Harper[/name] - Too trendy; too unisex. [name]Just[/name] not a pretty name.
[name]Harriet[/name] - This is very spunky and very nice. It’s the kind of name I would probably keep on the list til the end, but never choose (though I might mourn the loss of nn [name]Hattie[/name]). You just can’t get away from [name]Harry[/name], and it sounds a lot like hairy.
[name]Hazel[/name] - sounds like a witch’s name.
[name]Hero[/name]/[name]Hera[/name] - I love [name]Hero[/name], he thinks it would be a “burden” for a child. He’s right.
[name]Hester[/name] - Now, there’s a burden! [name]How[/name] about [name]Heloise[/name]?
[name]Hestia[/name] - Not sure if I actually like this, or if it’s just that since it came right after [name]Hester[/name], it’s suddenly not SO bad . . .
[name]Imogen[/name] - Maybe in the middle. I like the fact that it’s something a little different, but it doesn’t really have a nice sound.
[name]Iris[/name] - Oh, how sweet!
[name]Isadore[/name] - I like this a lot! I REALLY like [name]Isadora[/name]!
[name]Jemimah[/name] - there are LOTS of other posts about this; let this one go . . .
[name]Jette[/name] - pron. [name]Jet[/name] - for a girl? I can’t imagine where this came from? It’s awful!
[name]Jewel[/name] - [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Opal[/name] - all nice names. [name]Jewel[/name] - sounds ridiculous.
[name]Josephine[/name] * I know people love this one, and it is a good classic name, but all I hear is [name]Joseph[/name]. Tacking that ine on the end just doesn’t make this one feminine for me.
[name]Julia[/name]/[name]Julienne[/name] - Joo-lee-EN - [name]Julia[/name] is absolutely wonderful! All thos extra letters are completely unneccessary!
[name]June[/name] - I think this makes a wonderful middle name!
[name]Juniper[/name] - Very cute, but cute isn’t enough to make it for the long haul.
[name]Katherine[/name] - he loves and it is a family name for me but its also the name of his old flame. I think you’ve got to write this one off; old flames don’t make good namesakes.
[name]Keira[/name] - I like [name]Keira[/name].
Keladry - Did you make this up? [name]Don[/name]'t make names up anymore!
[name]Kimber[/name] - It’s like you lost the ly - maybe you dropped while you were in the time machine from the seventies?
[name]Kinsey[/name] - there is no substance here.
[name]Lark[/name]/Larkspur - this is just awful! The sounds are so harsh!
[name]Leighton[/name] - [name]Just[/name] not pretty.
[name]Leonie[/name]/[name]Leona[/name] - There’s a softness here that’s pretty. I would prefer [name]Lenora[/name], though; it has more depth.
[name]Liv[/name] - As a nn, sure.
Lightfoot - I fell in love with this after reading Cold Sassy Tree - this is just not a name you should be considering.
[name]Lorelei[/name] - NN [name]Lola[/name] - this is great!
[name]Lorraine[/name] - I like this one a lot!
[name]Luella[/name] - too cutesy? It is cutesy, but it could work. If you’re worried about it being cutesy, though, I don’t think this is for you.
[name]Lyndon[/name] - comb. of my moms name ([name]Lynn[/name]) and grandpas name ([name]Donald[/name]) - Find another way to honor these people; don’t sacrifice your child for the cause.
[name]Lynette[/name] - honors my mom - I don’t like this at all; it’s dated.
[name]Lyndsay[/name]/Lynley - honors my mom - Maybe in the middle. Spelled [name]Lindsay[/name].
[name]Mabel[/name] - Too much for a child.
[name]Maia[/name] - Pretty, but I prefer [name]Mia[/name], and I would prefer that as a nn for [name]Miriam[/name].
[name]Marguerite[/name] * - No need to go French here; [name]Margaret[/name] is lovely as it is!
Maybelline - well, since she’s not born with it, no need to give her this name.
[name]Molly[/name] - very cute, probably too much so.
[name]Odessa[/name] - I like this a lot.
[name]Olympia[/name] - This is too out there.
[name]Opal[/name] - I like this one!
[name]Ottilie[/name] - Pron. OTTA-lee. Oh, I like this one too! We’re on a roll . . .
[name]Pearl[/name] - This is great too! (Especially in the middle!)
[name]Philippa[/name] * Oh, this is darling! We really are on a roll . . .
[name]Piper[/name] - Oh, and we’ve just stopped! Ten pipers piping, nine ladies dancing, eight maids a milking . . .
[name]Pippa[/name] - (use it as a nn for [name]Philippa[/name]; no need for it to venture out into the world alone).
[name]Rachael[/name] - This is nice, but you have better options.
[name]Raina[/name] - I don’t know what to do with this; leave it alone.
[name]Raven[/name] - [name]Raven[/name] [name]Simone[/name] was such an adorable little girl; yours will be too, but she doesn’t need to share the name.
[name]Rosalie[/name]/[name]Rosalind[/name]/[name]Rose[/name] * - he’s always seen himself with a [name]Rose[/name] but dislikes my suggestion of [name]Rosalie[/name]. I love [name]Rosalind[/name]!

[name]Sage[/name] - This is even more ridiculous.

[name]Serena[/name] - I would have a hard time taking someone name [name]Serena[/name] seriously.
[name]Shea[/name] - like the Stadium? This is a terrible name!
[name]Sheridan[/name] - NN [name]Dani[/name]. Could we avoid NN [name]Sher[/name]/[name]Cher[/name]? Yes, but if you use this, you can’t avoid [name]Sheridan[/name]! That’s the real problem!
[name]Sonya[/name] - I do like this!
[name]Sosie[/name] - [name]How[/name] about [name]Susannah[/name], and Sosia could be a nn?
[name]Susannah[/name] * - he loves, I’m only okay with, but it sounds beautiful with LN. Think about the nn [name]Sosie[/name], and definitely keep this one under consideration!
Swift - mn only. Is there a significance here?
[name]Sylvie[/name] - Oh, this is wonderful! As is [name]Sylvia[/name]!
[name]Tabitha[/name] * Too witchy for me!
[name]Temperance[/name] * - nn Tempe, like the city in AZ. I like this, but I prefer [name]Prudence[/name]!
[name]Trista[/name] - Too flimsy!
[name]True[/name] - I love this. Let it go!
[name]Ursa[/name] - I wouls use the full [name]Ursula[/name], but actually I wouldn’t use it at all . . .
[name]Vanessa[/name] - [name]How[/name] sweet! You can’t go wrong with [name]Vanessa[/name]!
[name]Viola[/name] - Vie-OH-lah Another wonderful name!
[name]Windsor[/name] - would make a great name . . . for a bed and breakfast.
[name]Winifred[/name] - I do like this, but it’s not really fair to the child.
[name]Winter[/name] - Maybe in the middle.
