We have a son named [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] and are expecting another son this fall. By total coincidence, I have been in [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] with the name [name_u]River[/name_u] for the past two years. Its literally the only name I can picture using. I am from the west coast but I obviously know of the [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] [name_u]River[/name_u] in NY (who doesn’t?). I am not naive, so I know if I use the name [name_u]River[/name_u], we will most likely hear comments every now and then about “[name_u]Hudson[/name_u] [name_u]River[/name_u] haha so funny.”
Part of me thinks I should do what I want because it’s not like I’m naming my child [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]West[/name_u], and these are two separate children and separate cute names and people do themes all the time (I wasn’t going for a theme but oh well). But the other side of me wonders if I’m under estimating it and it’s TOO ridiculous. Thoughts?
Can you imagine being at the park and calling out “[name_u]Hudson[/name_u]! [name_u]River[/name_u]! 5 more minutes then it’s time for us to go!”
Personally, I couldn’t do it with a straight face, and I do think it’s on the same plane as [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]West[/name_u]… But then again, I don’t personally love [name_u]River[/name_u] (my SO does though). And it’s hard & a little unfair to drop your favourite name due to public perception, and not something wrong with the name itself.
You will definitely get comments, so it’s just up to you if you can handle them, probably incessantly, or at least deal with the knitted eyebrow looks. [name_m]How[/name_m] does your SO feel about [name_u]River[/name_u]? You only mentioned your love for it- is he comfortable with the [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] [name_u]River[/name_u] thing?
If you love it, it’s not the end of the world. I think it’s awkward, but I’m not American. They’re your kids, and you, the parents, have to be happy with their names. If [name_u]River[/name_u] is what’ll do that for you, go for it.
Well I love [name_u]River[/name_u] and I kind of like the names together, but yes it is kind of ridiculous… I live in Europe, have never been to the US and even to me it is ridiculous. It’s a difficult decision…
Ok thanks for the feedback.
