I am about to find out boy or girl and having a super hard time with boy names. I posted another thread about boy names and people suggested [name]River[/name], which I love, but husband didn’t. Well, he seems to be softening slightly so I am cautiously adding it to my list (of basically zero for boy names). I am a little worried it is not masculine enough for a boy - do you think that is true? [name]Will[/name] he be teased on the playground? I have a girl called [name]Maple[/name] so shouldn’t be worried, but somehow think girls can carry off an unusual, nature name better. I guess [name]River[/name] is not that uncommon though.
Does having kids called [name]Maple[/name] and [name]River[/name] make me sound like a hippy? Lol, I don’t really mind, but curious if I send out a major earthy vibe!
The other name on the list is [name]Henry[/name], which is my husbands name (although he goes by a nickname). I like it, but it kind of bores me to reuse a name with all the choices out there.
Well the nature theme of your children’s name is would be really obvious and not at all subtle. If you don’t mind it, it’s your call. Why don’t you look at other lists on here? Yes there are the Nature Names list and even the Unusual Nature Names but you could also look at others on the Unusual list to see if they pique your interest. Although it’s often easier to find what we like than don’t like, you could browse and expand your options.
I don’t think he would be teased, but [name]River[/name] and [name]Maple[/name] together does have a bit of a nature, hippy vibe. I think that’s ok though. I actually like both of those names and nature names are usually nms.
Very obvious nature vibe. If that doesn’t bother you (doesn’t bother me :p), then go for it.
[name]River[/name] is on the top of my list. Not sure if I can help you with the femininity as I struggle with that issue myself. I personally think of it as a masculine name, but I know there are those in the world who would lean to thinking it as feminine. And it doesn’t help that I paired it with the name [name]Ashley[/name], haha. But [name]Ashley[/name] is supposed to be a masculine name, so blah. Anyway, I don’t think of it as a big issue as [name]River[/name] IS a unisex name, and is currently much stronger on the boy side to top it off.
2012 U.S. SS top baby names rank for [name]River[/name]:
407 for boys.
And 686 for girls.
Also, it really depends on where you live, but I think that there are probably a lot more tease-able names out there on the playground today.
tfzolghadr had some lovely suggestions… either for a first name or to go with [name]River[/name] as a middle.
I love [name]River[/name] on a boy! Yes, you get a nature-y vibe going with [name]Maple[/name], but I think it’s a great vibe to have. I can’t imagine anyone making fun of [name]River[/name], honestly. I can’t even make up any jokes about it.
P.S. I think [name]River[/name] [name]Henry[/name] would be perfection.
I think [name]River[/name] is a beautiful name for a boy. [name]Every[/name] name starts somewhere! [name]River[/name] can be ferocious and wild as well as soft. I love it but like you, my partner isn’t keen. He feels it may be too unusual. It goes perfectly with [name]Maple[/name]. Good luck!
i absoltuley adore both of thoes names! (expecially [name]River[/name]) Now i can see where he might get a little teased about being named after something in nature but i dont think it’ll last long. its soo cute! and for [name]Maple[/name] is cute too but i personally would use it for a middle name. so if your husband ends up not wanting to name your baby [name]River[/name] or [name]Maple[/name] you could always use it as a middle name(:
I already have a [name]Maple[/name]! So it’s silly that I worry about teasing with [name]River[/name] - I guess I just think boys might have a harder time with a “pretty” name rather than a strong one.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]River[/name]! It is my fiance’s top choice for any future boy, and for me it leans much more masculine though I recognize that as a nature name it is unisex.
Paired with [name]Maple[/name] I do get a little bit of a hippy vibe (which I personally love); however, that vibe comes from [name]Maple[/name] more than [name]River[/name]. Overall I don’t think the names give off enough of a vibe for it to cause any potential problems.
