Two singer parents, Lights and [name_m]Beau[/name_m] Borkan (from LIGHTS and Blessthefall) just named their daughter [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] [name_m]Wild[/name_m], and yes the mother did legally change her name from [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] to Lights when she was 18. Now these parents are obviously not Kimye famous, so it stands to reason that their child will live a life of semi-anonymity with not everyone knowing her parents. Their Facebook announcement is going crazy with comments about how awful or awesome this name is. SO Berries, do what do you think of the name? [name_m]Will[/name_m] it make her a target for bullies or an automatic discard for jobs? Or is it just the right kind of unique?
[name_m]Rocket[/name_m] is to much for me, but [name_m]Wild[/name_m] is on my guilty pleasure list (for boys). It’s crazy, yes, but I think certain personalities could pull it off.
I nearly created a thread on this same topic over an hour ago (before this thread was posted) when Lights’ picture came up on my newsfeed but I decided against it. I decided to at least wait a day and hope it was a joke.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] her music and all… but this is just terrible. She changed her name as an adult which is fine, but to give this name to a child? It is absolutely absurd and the best comments on the pic are “Team [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] blast off at the speed of light” with the Team [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] picture.
As per the question of the right kind of unique? No not at all. The right kind of unique is Amaryllis or the name of a Greek Goddess, not Rocket.
In all honesty, I prefer Peaches Geldofs sons names Phaedra and Astala to this.
I saw this on my facebook news feed, I think it was from a music magazine or something like that and I just thought it was ridiculous. The thing that surprised me the most was that her fans commenting were telling her how awesome the name was and how much they loved it. There were only about 5 people saying it was awful.
It wouldn’t be as bad if it was a boy, as I wouldn’t find it as bad as [name_m]Rekker[/name_m] or [name_m]Bingham[/name_m] (sp?) but on a girl it just seems like a really bizarre choice.
When I was a kid, I used to play this series of computer games where the main character was a girl named Rockett Movado. They were about her going to school, and the gameplay involved you making decisions that would affect how her school day went. I had a little bit of a soft spot for the name Rockett on a girl when I was very young because of those games. Actually, I just looked up Lights’ age and now I’m wondering if she might have played those games as a kid too?
[name_m]Rocket[/name_m] [name_m]Wild[/name_m] reminds me of when that guy from [name_f]My[/name_f] Chemical Romance named his daughter [name_m]Bandit[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u]. It has the same sort of feeling to me. Or when people give their sons the middle name [name_m]Danger[/name_m].
That is absolutely the worst name I have ever seen in my life. Why, just why?
I’am sure that certain personalities can pull off a name like that. But how can the parents know that their daughter’s isnt going to be the most shy person on earth? [name_f]Rose[/name_f] nn [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] or something like that is adorable but [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] [name_m]Wild[/name_m] is so bad…
I saw this on my newfeed and I was just like WTF?
Like I almost want to stop listening to her mothers music.
In all seriousness though, if she had to use the name Rocket, I would much prefer she used it on a boy. I think Rocket works much better on a boy. Still wouldn’t like the name either way though.
Exactly! A more approachable name with a nickname like [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] wouldn’t be bad because the child could easily choose to not go by her nickname. [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] [name_m]Wild[/name_m] is just begging for trouble. I can see a girl (or boy) with this name partying it up and saying, “but I’m just living up to my expectations!”
Being Canadian, I definitely know who Lights is, her songs were played to death over here a few years ago, but I honestly forgot all about her until this. She’s really dropped off the musical map, even in her home country. She definitely hasn’t got the star credit to pull it off.
I actually ranted slightly about the name choice on Facebook, my best friend joined in with me and said how horrid it was, then two girls I go to college with (neither of whom I like) commented saying it was ‘awesome’ and ‘not that bad for a baby’. I actually hung my head in shame when I saw what they posted. Then again, the majority of my college class thinks that naming a baby [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] would be the nicest thing ever (seriously, there’s a large portion who always say how lovely [name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] is and how they think it’s the most beautiful thing in the world…do they entirely miss the 'heaven backwards = hell" thing?!).
“Broken [name_m]Wild[/name_m] [name_m]Rocket[/name_m]”. The parents need to be blasted to the moon for coming up with it.
I thought it was a boy when I read the name I dont think its [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]West[/name_u] horrible because something like [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] [name_f]Elizabetta[/name_f] or [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] [name_f]Viola[/name_f] would be cool same with [name_f]Viola[/name_f] [name_m]Wild[/name_m] or [name_f]Elizabetta[/name_f] [name_m]Wild[/name_m] its just together the names are over the top
I love Lights! But I love her choice of her daughter’s name a lot less. I could deal with [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] [name_m]Wild[/name_m] for a boy (maybe) but, I really don’t think it’s a great name for a girl. In fact I think [name_m]Light[/name_m], [name_f]Luciana[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] would have been adorable… [name_m]Ah[/name_m] well at least it’s unique, congrats to her anyway, I didn’t even know she was having a baby (but I don’t keep up with celebrities, even the ones I like :P).
I’m a pretty big Lights fan, met her quite a few times actually but I really really REALLY don’t like this name! It’s right up there with [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]West[/name_u] and [name_f]Moon[/name_f] Unit for silliness imo. I’m actually kinda disappointed in her for choosing such a name it almost makes me think less of her.
I think they picked it because it was pretty unisex and they didn’t know what they were having until she was born.
I personally love the name [name_m]Rocket[/name_m]. But I also have guilty pleasure for her parents names too
[name_m]Rocket[/name_m] I don’t mind I have liked it on a girl for quite some time. [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] [name_m]Wild[/name_m]? Not so much…
I really don’t like phrase-y sort of names. There are some word names I like but I don’t like combining two into a name (actually the same goes for nature names, place names, etc – one is enough).
Personally, I’m not a huge fan of LIGHTS. I admit I was disgusted and totally weirded out by her name choice at first when I saw the story a few days ago, but it’s really grown on me since then. [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] is spunky, word and seemingly all boy, but she will be remembered. She’ll be quirky, for sure. People mostly tend to grow into their names right?
There’s a “celebrity” in Australia with a son named [name_m]Knox[/name_m] [name_m]Rocket[/name_m]. Although [name_m]Knox[/name_m] isn’t as bad as [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] for a first name. It’s an incredibly stupid name.
I immediately thought of the herb/leaf when I read [name_m]Rocket[/name_m], not like space-travel-type, so I actually really like the idea. It feels earthy and energetic like [name_f]Thyme[/name_f] or [name_f]Cinnamon[/name_f]. But yeah, now I just hear ‘space [name_m]Rocket[/name_m]’.
[name_m]Wild[/name_m] isn’t my thing, and I don’t love either for a girl, but I doubt being the child of a woman who calls herself Lights she’ll think it’s particularly abnormal.
Am I the only one starting to think [name_m]Rocket[/name_m] is just a really weird sounding word? Keep saying it, think of the leaves, then think of the space ship then think of a child. Something in my brain right now is uber-confused haha.
Definitely not the worst celeb baby I’ve heard.
