Rocklin nn Rocky?

I like Rocklin for our second baby boy but need some feedback. I can’t find it on many name lists… Our first is [name_u]Hudson[/name_u].
Thanks!

I’ve never heard of Rocklin before and I assume it’s just made up since it’s not on any namelists. However, the sounds are right on trend at the minute and it’s similarity to [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] means it’s perfectly usable, especially since [name_m]Rocky[/name_m] is a well known (yet very uncommon) nickname. It goes well with [name_u]Hudson[/name_u].

I think it works. [name_m]Rocky[/name_m] is bold and sweet, and Rocklin and [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] sound like brothers.

It does sound very made up, and just reading the thread title I thought it was going to be a girl’s name… Something along the lines of Oaklyn or [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f]. I think something like [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] nn [name_m]Rocky[/name_m] or [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] nn [name_m]Rocky[/name_m] would be more wearable.

I agree that [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] or [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] would be a better choice. Rocklin just sounds really made up in my ears, and I’m not a big fan.

[name_m]Rocky[/name_m] does go very well with [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], though.

I’ve never heard of Rocklin before and assume it is made up. While I’m not a fan of made up names, I think it would fit in fine with other children and doesn’t sound too “weird.” [name_m]Rocky[/name_m] is cute!

I’m not sure what all the concern is about sounding made up, but (although it’s not my style) I think it’s fine. It sounds and look nice with [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]. Would you consider spelling it Rockland, Rocklen, Rocklan, or Rocclan, etc. I’m not too fond of the -lin part, it does seem feminine.

Also, if you’ve gotten this name from something or something - family tree, place name, etc, please educate us!!

I like [name_m]Rocky[/name_m] a lot, but would like [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] and [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] or better. Rocklin just sounds made up

I agree that Rocklin and [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] make great brothers. I had a hard time reading “Rocklin” off the screen though. I thought it said “Rockin” which may be a plus or minus for you. Try playing with spellings like a pp suggested.

Rochlan like [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m] is an idea.

Good luck! [name_m]Rocky[/name_m] is adorable.

I have never heard of it, and agree that it does sound a little “pretend” in some ways. It fits within some of the name trends as the moment though. I personally don’t like it, sorry. I agree with others that a more recognizable name, like [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u], would be best. (and you can still get the NN that you like).

Thanks for the feedback. I saw it somewhere as a last name and I kind of like last names as first names,(hence [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]) maybe a different spelling would be better but the majority of people arnt liking it anyway :frowning: I see so many ‘made up’ names around I didn’t think it would be a big deal but I don’t want to give my son a name that most people will hate
It’s so hard!!
do you have any other suggestions for names that go with [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]?

I wondered why your two boys’ names together struck me as strange until I realized…

[name_m]Rock[/name_m] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] was a prolific [name_u]Golden[/name_u] Age American actor and the first major celebrity to die from AIDs.

It’s certainly not a bad reference (or accidental namesake), and your boys won’t be together as “[name_m]Rocky[/name_m] & [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]” always, but it did strike me. (Had [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] been your surname, I would have strongly advised against any “[name_m]Rock[/name_m]” name.) Still, I might be the only person to have made that connection (and maybe wouldn’t if the ‘[name_m]Rock[/name_m]’ spelling was less prominent in the name, like suggested spelling Rochlan), but I just wanted to point this one out to you.

I like it but I think two n ending names is a bit much (but that may not bother you) and the spelling reminds me too much of Rockin. [name_m]Rockwell[/name_m] could work, gets rid of the n ending but still gives you the nickname [name_m]Rocky[/name_m]? Or even changing the spelling to Rocklan gets rid of the rockin thing. Good luck
