Roderick vs Broderick

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries,

Both [name_m]Roderick[/name_m] and [name_m]Broderick[/name_m] are on our short list for boys’ names. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a preference between the two, and if so, why? I feel like [name_m]Roderick[/name_m] is more “classic” but we do have an R- girl (our son starts with a T, and DH and I are G and J respectively, so there’s something nice about having all different first initials- but then, it’s not mandatory). Other considerations: not a big fan of the NN “[name_m]Rod[/name_m],” which might happen if we name him [name_m]Roderick[/name_m]- although “[name_m]Brody[/name_m],” which seems like the obvious choice of NN if we name him [name_m]Broderick[/name_m], feels too surfer-ish to me. I’d hope for a NN of “[name_m]Odie[/name_m]” with either name.

WDYT? What kind of names/boys are [name_m]Roderick[/name_m] and [name_m]Broderick[/name_m]? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

[name_m]Roderick[/name_m] sounds like a first name to me whereas [name_m]Broderick[/name_m] sounds like a last name (not that you can’t use last names as first names anyway but that was my first thought). [name_m]Rick[/name_m] could be a nickname for either name.
I met a [name_m]Brody[/name_m] last week who is a bank manager so I think anything goes these days.
