Rogue Briallen ?

What do y’all think about The girl name [name_m]Rogue[/name_m] [name_f]Briallen[/name_f]? [name_m]Rogue[/name_m] means mischievous, and briallen means primrose.

I have had enough remarks about what others think about the names themselves, but I would like to know what yall think about the combination! Thanks!

Not a fan.

Hmm… at first, I thought you were asking for opinions on [name_f]Briallen[/name_f], and “rogue” was just a descriptor.

I think [name_f]Briallen[/name_f] is a nice choice - unusual but accessible, and with a flowery meaning but androgynous sound.

[name_m]Rogue[/name_m] I’m not keen on, sorry. It’s not a positive word, and it seems very deliberately “cool”. I don’t think I’d like to have to introduce myself as [name_m]Rogue[/name_m], at school, at job interviews, parents’ evenings, board meetings… would you?

I have always liked [name_m]Rogue[/name_m] since I heated it on X-men, although I am not a fan of the x men.
Mischievous, or rebel is neat to me, as I know someone who named there son [name_m]Maverick[/name_m](meaning rebel) and his(maverick’s) father is in the army. [name_u]Rebel[/name_u] in that since is good. Thanks so much for your input, it is greatly appreciated :blush:

A rogue is more than a rebel though. A rogue is a trickster, cheeky, a rascal, naughty, a chancer, insincere.

It seems very difficult to wear. Everyone would hear it and assume that you were mischievous, rebellious, and rude. Not the first impression I want people to get just from my NAME. It’s one of those unfortunate situations where people would make assumptions about a person based on factors they can’t control. I knew a kid named [name_m]Rowdy[/name_m], and let’s just say he took his name literally. I feel like the same would happen to [name_m]Rogue[/name_m]. Perhaps [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Brielle[/name_f]?

A rogue yes. But a rogue used to mean a male theif, but now it is mostly used for a wild male animal, and for a human in the 21st century it means mischievous or little rascal

[name_m]Rogue[/name_m] for a human in the 21st century simply means mischievous

[name_f]Briallen[/name_f] is intriguing, but [name_m]Rogue[/name_m] is a big no

I like [name_m]Rogue[/name_m] too and think [name_m]Rogue[/name_m] [name_f]Briallen[/name_f] is a good combo. Planning to use Rogue too

It actually means “a dishonest or unprincipled man” or “an elephant or other large wild animal driven away or living apart from the herd and having savage or destructive tendencies” according to the dictionary, if you wanna get technical. Actually, those definitions make me dislike the name even more. “Mischievous” isn’t a good meaning either tbh. Synonyms include “naughty”, “bad behaved”, “misbehaving”, “disobedient”, or “troublesome”.

I also thought this and I very much agree with what she said.

Honestly, a rogue for me is somebody who is uncouth, dishonest and dangerous. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if the word has a more positive connotation for you, you must see that the original definition is very negative, and many of us still understand the word this way. Your daughter will have to face a lot of bad reactions throughout her life.

On the other hand, [name_f]Briallen[/name_f] is lovely.

For a fictional character it’d be perfect. For a child? Not so much.

I don’t think it is usable, especially for a girl… (male thief, a dishonest or unprincipled man) Sorry.
It also makes me think of [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars.

[name_m]Rogue[/name_m] strikes me as a neutral-ish word. Whether it has good or bad connotations depends on the context - what is the person rogue-ing against would play into it, and even then you won’t guarantee everyone will agree it’s positive or negative. Though it does on its own lean towards negative, especially if you look at the dictionary definitions. Of course, dictionaries aren’t the be-all-and-end-all of word usage, but it’s worth considering.

My other gripe with it is that as a name it seems like it’s trying a little too hard to be cool. [name_f]Briallen[/name_f] is very nice though.

There are a lot of similar names you might like:

I also think [name_f]Briallen[/name_f] [name_m]Maverick[/name_m] could work as a girls name combo.

I wouldn’t use [name_m]Rogue[/name_m] on any child, let alone a girl. However I think [name_f]Briallen[/name_f] is lovely.

It makes me think of rogue nations such as [name_u]North[/name_u] Korea.
I like [name_f]Briallen[/name_f] though. I guess the proper pronunciation uses the aspirated welsh “ll” sound which is not at all practical in English. It would have to be a normal “l” sound. The “a” syllable is where the emphasis lies.

Yes! Thank you  all I’ve been getting are negative remarks on [name_m]Rogue[/name_m], when all I asked for was what people thought about the combo :grimacing: Did you say you were planning on using [name_m]Rogue[/name_m] as well? If so for a boy or a girl?

Everyone is giving you thoughts on the combo. They just happen to not like part of it.

That being said, I personally don’t care for [name_m]Rogue[/name_m]. It’s in the same vein as [name_u]Rebel[/name_u] for me, better saved for a pet. (This coming from someone with a dog called Rascal)

[name_f]Briallen[/name_f] is interesting, and less of a “word” name. It would make a lovely middle or even a nice first name with some easy nicknames built in.
