[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I previously posted a question asking if [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Roma[/name_u] sounded good, but they told me that an ethnic group is known as [name_u]Roma[/name_u] people, and I didn’t know! So doubts began to arise. What do you think? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it is a good idea to put [name_u]Roma[/name_u] to my baby?
I didn’t know about a group of people named [name_u]Roma[/name_u]. The only [name_u]Roma[/name_u] I know of is the variety of tomatoes. I think it is totally usable!
Yea would not do [name_u]Roma[/name_u], it’s a stunning name but especially because that group of people has been persecuted quite badly before in the pass and now even, unless you yourself were [name_u]Roma[/name_u] I wouldn’t do it
i didn’t know about the people either; my main association is Rome. but considering what Night said, i’d say Roma is unusable
It’s a definite no from me, I’m afraid, for the exact reasons already stated. Completely unusable as the [name_u]Roma[/name_u] / Romani are a historically badly persecuted people.
You might know these people under a different name, but that name is considered a slur by many (including myself) so I won’t say it, only that it starts with G and ends with y.
[name_f]Romina[/name_f] could be a usable alternative? [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_u]Romy[/name_u]?
I decided [name_u]Roma[/name_u] because of [name_u]Rome[/name_u], [name_f]My[/name_f] honeymoon was there and I am part Italian and I wanted to have a name in Italian but I see that maybe it’s not the best idea, but it breaks my heart
I think it’s fine given your intentions are the name of the city and it will be a middle name.
Exactly as [name_u]Night[/name_u] said here! Definitely a no.
[name_u]Romy[/name_u] or [name_u]Romilly[/name_u] I think are so great.
I’m a bit torn on [name_u]Roma[/name_u]. I’ve basically always known about the [name_u]Roma[/name_u], and that’s the first thing I think about. However, [name_u]Roma[/name_u] as a first name is not unheard of in [name_f]Russia[/name_f], although it’s maybe somewhat dated.
So personally I wouldn’t do it because the association with the [name_u]Roma[/name_u] people is too strong, but [name_u]Roma[/name_u] has been in use as a first name for decades. As a middle name I think you could pull it off, but maybe not as a first.
The ethnic group and their ethnic cleansing at the hands of the Nazis is the first thing that came to my mind. For that reason, I wouldn’t use it (even though it does face a lovely sound).
As you’re part Italian I think it makes total sense for you to use [name_u]Roma[/name_u] as people will know the reason & meaning behind it. Especially as it would be used in the middle spot too. I do appreciate what other people are saying though and it’s obviously something to consider carefully. [name_u]Rome[/name_u] would be a good alternative.
Another idea is using a name like [name_f]Romala[/name_f] / [name_f]Romola[/name_f], which is a beautiful name IMO “Italian variation of Romulus”
It does seem unusual to me since the [name_u]Roma[/name_u] are my first association. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Romola[/name_f], [name_f]Romina[/name_f], [name_f]Romana[/name_f]?
[name_f]My[/name_f] first association is the [name_u]Roma[/name_u] people too. Why not [name_u]Rome[/name_u]? I think that’s a cool name
So I had previously posted on [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Roma[/name_u] and said about the [name_u]Roma[/name_u] people suggesting [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Rome[/name_u]. I actually love [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Rome[/name_u]!
Personally I do think the name [name_u]Roma[/name_u] is unusable. As I had said previously due to the ethnic group I think it would be culturally insensitive to use [name_u]Roma[/name_u]. The people have continuously been persecuted including in the Nazi death camps and up until the current date [name_u]Roma[/name_u] people have been discriminated against. Its very hard to be [name_u]Roma[/name_u] and I think when you belong to a certain ethnic group that is persecuted others outside that group should try to not appropriate from that culture and do their upmost too educate. For me using [name_u]Roma[/name_u] would go against my ethos that’s why it’s a hard no.
I completely understand why you love [name_u]Roma[/name_u] and the association with [name_u]Rome[/name_u]. But I think [name_u]Rome[/name_u] is definitely the better option [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Rome[/name_u] is lush.
I think it’s also unusable because of reasons already mentioned. [name_u]Rome[/name_u] is cool, and I like [name_u]Romilly[/name_u] too.
Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s appropriate. While my first association may be the city or tomatoes, the [name_u]Roma[/name_u] people have been a persecuted group throughout history and today. Maybe another similar name or a name reminding you of your honeymoon or heritage might fit!
