Ronan?

For our second boy due in [name]September[/name] we’ve decided on the name [name]Alec[/name] [name]Ronan[/name] W***. People ask us often what name we’ve chosen and when I tell them this name they look at me like we’re crazy!
We live in [name]Georgia[/name] but in a city that has lots of Irish Catholic heritage…which is what we are. Our Irish Catholic friends and family really like the name but others who have never heard of [name]Ronan[/name] and think it’s strange. Someone even said “…you mean, like, rodent?” Geez! Is [name]Ronan[/name] a crazy name? While I personally have never meet a [name]Ronan[/name], I love it and think it’s super handsome.
[name]Just[/name] looking for some feedback.

Thanks-a-million!

I absolutely love [name]Ronan[/name]! While it isn’t very common, is sounds like several names that are getting trendy in more cosmopolitan milieux. ([name]Roman[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], etc.) I say go for it! When you’re kid is 10 or 15, he’ll have the ‘cool’ name. It’s just a matter of time.

It’s not crazy! I like it. Wasn’t there a [name]Robert[/name] DeNiro movie called [name]Ronan[/name] or [name]Ronin[/name]? I don’t know anyone named [name]Ronan[/name], but I’ve certainly heard it and I don’t think it’s weird. Then again, I’m Irish Catholic, too, so maybe I’m not really representing the general public. Still, I say go for it!

I love the name [name]Ronan[/name]. I think it is super handsome. I wouldnt worry about what people say. Your son will appreciate his carefully thought out handsome name.

I love [name]Ronan[/name]! It’s not crazy at all and it doesn’t sound like rodent either.

Phew! Thanks, guys!
I know most people won’t even know the kid’s middle name. I’ve mostly just been telling people that we’re naming him [name]Alec[/name] but if they ask the middle name I tell them. You know, our first son’s middle name is [name]Magnus[/name] so I don’t know why I’m even questioning our choice. [name]Magnus[/name] isn’t exactly in the top 10 boy’s names, is it?
Okay…I feel better. Thanks everyone

Plus an official thumbs up for [name]Ronan[/name]…though it sounds as if you found the support you were looking for.

God, no! [name]Ronan[/name] is not a crazy name! Now, it always makes me think of [name]Ronan[/name] Keating, who used to be involved in Boyzone, because he was really popular back when I used to live in [name]England[/name] as a child - and my mom loved him…

I still think [name]Ronan[/name] is awesome, and I love [name]Alec[/name] [name]Ronan[/name]. I even love [name]Ronan[/name] [name]Alec[/name] [name]Wood[/name]! Great, great name, [name]Tara[/name]!

I love the name [name]Ronan[/name].

Re: the [name]Robert[/name] Deniro film: it’s title was “[name]Ronin[/name]”, in reference to a class of Samurai in medieval(?) Japanese society. So, if your wee man ever gets tired of the meaning “little seal”, he can go for this one ;p

[name]Don[/name]'t listen to negative unwanted opinions, you have chosen your name so stick to it - It’s a great name! I think of [name]Ronan[/name] Keating (the singer).

[name]Ronan[/name] is a great name. Underused and super cool!

agreeeeeeeeeeeeed!

Great choice! (Are you a “Stargate: [name]Atlantis[/name]” fan by any chance? A character on that series had this name.)

No, I’ve never seen the show. Is the character awesome?
I just think it’s super handsome and kinda bad ass sounding. Also, my family heritage is Irish Catholic and [name]Ronan[/name] was the name of several Irish saints.

Thanks so much for your reply

I also think of [name]Ronan[/name] Keating (singer) and thought people would be more familiar with this name. It’s a great name…don’t have doubts! I’ve decided not tell people (except name berries) my name choices for my second baby (due [name]June[/name]) as I got too many comments that influenced my decision in the naming of my first baby. Once bub is born and named people don’t tend to say anything negative.

Great name! I prefer the nickname / shortened form “Bo” over “Ro.”

Go for it!
