I feel like I’m monopolizing the quick poll thread so thought I’d bring this here.

I know [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] is pronounced nothing like [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] but I have this crazy idea that I’d like the nickname [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u]. I think I need a nap.

Also, how would you compare [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] to [name_u]Owen[/name_u] to [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]? Which one do you prefer? I’m usually not into [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] but… maybe today I am? Not sure.

Which is best?

I think that [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] “[name_u]Ronnie[/name_u]” works and is quite cute!

I just learned that [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] loosely means “descendant of [name_u]Roy[/name_u]”, which was my great-grandfather’s name! Knowing that makes me lean more towards it… though popularity puts me off a tad. I feel like [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] seems less trendy though.

So, knowing that, would you pick [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]? I also still think [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] could work with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u].

Also, would you confuse the two names if you heard them out loud?

I love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], I think it’s a really warm name. And the family connection is great! [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] definitely works for either of the R names.

Ronan is handsome too, but [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] feels both cuddlier and more distinguished somehow to me (maybe due to Atkinson and [name_m]Williams[/name_m]). I don’t think I’d get them confused.

Hi there.

I love [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]! I’m a bit biased, because it’s my doggy nephews name whom I’m in love with. But it kind of fits him perfectly & this is how I see the name: Super manly & rugged & handsome, but still has a gentle lovable vibe. And it’s simple but somehow hasn’t caught on in popularity yet like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is getting closed to & [name_u]Owen[/name_u] definitely has. I think that [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] nn [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] makes some sense. No reason not to.

Hope this helps.

My opinion is somewhere in-between love it and neutral. I really like it, but personally, I would not use it

[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] just so happens to be my favorite name :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] isn’t quite my style, but it definitely works as a cute and unexpected nn!

I truly love [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (and [name_m]Roman[/name_m]) equally. They are all on my boy’s list. [name_u]Owen[/name_u] is wonderful, but very popular where I live. I love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]/Rowen as it sounds very similar to [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] is so handsome, fresh and not as common, but I am afraid it would get misheard as [name_u]Owen[/name_u] or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] quite a bit. Out of the three you have listed, I’d probably use [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], but [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] is a very close 2nd. I adore [name_m]Ronan[/name_m].

I love [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] “[name_u]Ronnie[/name_u]” is adorable! I’m also partial to [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] “[name_u]Ren[/name_u].” I had [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_u]Ellery[/name_u] on my list at different points and now I have [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]/Frederick [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_m]Perseus[/name_m]!

Oh, those are so handsome! I’m still leaning towards using [name_u]Rice[/name_u] as a middle. Though I might be willing to use [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] (I believe the [name_u]Rice[/name_u] family was originally [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] before they came to [name_u]America[/name_u]). I love alliteration but do you think they flow well with [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]?

Also thinking about other family names ([name_u]Roy[/name_u], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], and [name_m]Watson[/name_m]) that I like.

Ronan [name_u]Rice[/name_u]/Ronan [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] flows beautifully, but my heart goes out to [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] [name_u]Roy[/name_u] :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: [name_u]Roy[/name_u] is so underused and handsome!

I think [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] nn [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] could work? I like [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u] more myself, though? I love [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] (or the Hebrew [name_m]Ronen[/name_m]!), but since [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is so ridiculously high on my list (if not #1, he’s top 3 for sure), [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] hasn’t made it to my actual list, but I do love him. Then again, I have [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_m]Eoghan[/name_m] ([name_u]Owen[/name_u]) on my list, so I guess that is a flimsy excuse against [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]. :joy: I would love to have a little [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] in my life, though; I love [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]!

Yeah popularity and trendy-ness totally puts me off. The name screams 2021 trendy now sadly. I did used to like the name but when you start meeting quite a few babies with the name it takes the shine off and makes it less special

Plus RoMan with an M is one the fastest rising baby names. RoNan RoMan RoWan [name_u]Owen[/name_u] (and to a lesser extent [name_u]Ryan[/name_u]) all just merge into one for me now. Shame

Yes I those names all do get misheard.
There’s baby girl [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and boys RoMan [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and RoNan all near to me and the names just merge into one and confuse people. I’ve heard people saying “hold on, so is your name [name_f]Ro[/name_f]—an spelt with an M W H or N in the middle?”
Not ideal!

Yeah, I think I’m going to keep it off my list. If [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] wasn’t do popular, I think I would add it because of the meaning. Oh well.

Could you think of having it as a middle name if the meaning is special to you?
[name_u]Or[/name_u] what about just using the name [name_u]Roy[/name_u]?

When there’s so many lovely names to pick from, I do wonder why people keep picking one of that subset of [name_f]Ro[/name_f]—an names that sound so similar to each other. But each to their own of course!
