We cannot decide. We love that [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is unique, but we worry that it is often used as a girl’s name in the US and that people have trouble pronouncing it.
We love that [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a strong name, but we worry that it rhymes with our last name (Mimmack) and that it may be too common.
As an FYI, baby boy’s older brother’s name is [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] Mimmack.
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] gets my vote since it’s not as common - don’t worry about it being used on girls (more boys are still being given the name than girls according to the SSA stats).
I really like [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. Although I think it’s often used now as a nickname for [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], the name by itself has always leaned more male. It’s kind of an old reference, but whenever I hear the name it reminds me of the son from the sitcom 8 Simple Rules.
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] is great too and I think it’s a classic, but the whole [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]/[name_m]Jaxon[/name_m]/[name_m]Jaxson[/name_m] thing is a bit of a turn off for me and definitely makes [name_m]Jack[/name_m] feel much more common than it actually is. As far as the rhyming goes, it’s not ideal but I don’t think it should be a deal breaker. The “[name_f]Mim[/name_f]-” helps separate it a bit and it sounds a lot better than if it was just [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Mack[/name_m].
I think I would personally go with [name_u]Rory[/name_u], but as a sibset I’m not sure if having both names end in -ry would bother you.
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] both go very well with [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is 100% masculine to me. I live in the states and only know males named [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] Mimmack sounds fine together, unlike something like [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Mack[/name_m]. I personally adore [name_u]Rory[/name_u], and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] fits the category of The One. So I vote for [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] but it is a win win either way.
I love [name_m]Jack[/name_m], but for you I think [name_u]Rory[/name_u] works so well. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about it with the girls, I’ve only met one girl in my lifetime with the name [name_u]Rory[/name_u], 23-years-old currently and not short for anything. I think majority of girl [name_u]Rory[/name_u]'s you’ll meet will be short for [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], etc.
I would go with [name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]! It follows way better with your last name and its way less popular then [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] are very cute together.
Re: Mimmack - [name_u]March[/name_u] posting. Intrigued to discover what name you finally chose.
(I’m doing a study of the Mimmack name - see http://one-name.org/name_profile/mimmack)
I assume you’re in the US? [name_m]Steve[/name_m] - UK
