Rosalie and Jasper?

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is one of our top picks for if we have another girl. However, it knocks our our top pick for a boy, [name_m]Rufus[/name_m]. Our second pick is [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], but my sister pointed out that [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] are both twilight characters. Is this a deal breaker?

I didn’t even realize! I never read those books or saw the movies, so I just thought it was another lovely nameberry sibset.

For some reason I did read the books, but I happen to think some of her names were the best aspects. If [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] was your first, I’d say it looks a bit fangirl. However, [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] goes with your ladies so I’d say go for it

As someone who has been inundated with Twilight by default of my age and gender, I’d roll my eyes at that sibset because I’d assume it was chosen FOR the books/movies.

Obviously my assumption would be wrong, and everyone else who assumed this would also be wrong, but the assumption is there. It’s a deal breaker for me, might not be for you.

I want to say no just as much as yes twilights finally fading so no I don’t think it will be a problem but any one who’s heard the character names may or may not associate them with the series you could always break it and use [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] or along those lines with [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] as a NN which breaks the ties

I think if the sibset was just [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], it’d be too Twilight-y (Note, I did read those terrible books). But since you already have 2 impeccably named kids, I think no one would notice. [name_f]Lilla[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], & [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] would be awesome!

I wouldn’ t worry about it unless you were suddenly expecting b /g twins, or already had a [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]/[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and were pregnant again with a baby of the opposite sex.

I personally don’t think it’s worth nixing a favourite name for hypotheticals. If you take [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] off your list in favour of [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and then you get pregnant with a boy, what was the point? You’re down to your #3 name, which is fine, as I’m sure it’s awesome (I love the favourites you have listed!) but I don’t think it’s worrying about pre-pregnancies

As for Twilight, I’m sure people would notice, but it’s not like you’re picking [name_f]Bella[/name_f] and [name_m]Edward[/name_m]. I’ve never read nor seen Twilight, but I do know [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] are both characters…

Never read the books etc…but love the pairing of the names!

I think it might be too much but something like [name_f]Rosalia[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] or [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_m]Casper[/name_m] would be alright. I would love to see a sibling set of [name_f]Lilla[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilla[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].

No, not at all. Twilight was a fad that has come and gone. I doubt most people remember the name of 2 very minor characters. By the time you have kids, the association won’t be there.

As someone that does not know anything about Twilight, I think [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] sound wonderful together.

I didn’t even remember the connection until I read your post, so I don’t think it would be too much of a problem. By the time your children are at the stage where they’re making more friends and you’re meeting the parents, I think few will even remember Twilight.

Thanks everyone. I’m just not comfortable using a name without a sibling name or a couple that we can use next. The more kids we have the smaller our naming bubble is getting and I don’t want to get stuck in a corner. They do pair nicely but I’m still not sure about the twilight reference.

It would have been a deal breaker two years ago, but now, not so much. And since you already have kids that aren’t named twilight names, I think it’s fine.

I really dislike [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] anyways, but yeah, I would say it’s a bit too much. Not as much as [name_f]Bella[/name_f] and [name_m]Edward[/name_m], but definitely too much.

I immediately thought Twilight, but I read it, and I doubt many people in a few years will still remember. Plus, I connect names with characters more than most, so even [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] or [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] individually remind me of Twilight. I personally wouldn’t use them, but I think the whole phase is over now.

When I first saw the title I thought to myself how lovely they sound together and then you said the thing about them both being Twilight characters. I honestly didn’t even realise!

They are lovely names and sound great together, to be honest Twilight had a very brief moment in the spotlight and people won’t make the connection soon enough or even at all now.

I automatically think of Twilight but I was 13 when the books and movies started coming out and became popular and I was as obsessed as every other teenage girl at the time. I guess it would be alright to use the names now since some time has passed, but you’ll probably always have someone who recognizes it.

this keeps happening to me as well. if Twilight is anywhere near as awesome as the names in it, maybe i should read/watch it!

I had no idea they were from Twilight. [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was that I love the names together. If you know a lot of Twilight readers, it might get annoying for you, but I don’t think your kids are going to grow up hearing jokes from their peers. Twilight were books for a generation, not the sort of book that stays around for multiple generations, being passed down from parent to child.
