Rosalie Memphis

It feels quite weird to be posting about this name. I don’t really know where to begin…it is a long time love of mine and Dh’s but i’ve never posted about it before, partly because i know place names can get a bit of a bashing around here and i feel very defensive of it.

Dh and i have mulled over this name for years, sometimes loving it, sometimes not feeling like it has enough weight, loving the idea of the nn [name]Romy[/name], then trying to think of another fn to go with [name]Memphis[/name] because we’ve gone off [name]Rosalie[/name], other times thinking that [name]Rosalie[/name] is great but maybe with another middle. Its has huge personal meaning to us, but for some reason we think of it as a bit of a guilty pleasure. Its a name that never goes away but oddly when choosing a name for our dd, it hardly came up! But we do keep coming back to it, and now, finally after all this time i’m asking you good Berries- what do you think of [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Memphis[/name] (eek!!)

I think it’s gorgeous. To me it sounds like a pretty celebrity name. [name]One[/name] of those names that is fun to say together. It could almost be a double barrel name.

I like that it has so much meaning to you and your husband, but I’m really sad to say that I’m not a huge fan of the combo! [name]Rosalie[/name] is very pretty, and it does go well with [name]Juniper[/name] in a sibset. But [name]Memphis[/name] just isn’t my cup of tea! I’m one of those people who doesn’t really like place names, and [name]Memphis[/name] will always be a city in [name]Tennessee[/name]. I really want to like it, but that’s holding me back!
It could very well be a name that grows on me. But if you love it and it has meaning, don’t let me not liking it stop you from every using it!
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!

I love place names personally. I also like [name]Rosalie[/name] a lot, and its great with juniper.

I love [name]Rosalie[/name], especially with [name]Juniper[/name] as others posted, but I am not feeling [name]Memphis[/name]. [name]Memphis[/name] feels very heavy and masculine next to [name]Rosalie[/name]. I am not against place-names in general ( I think [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Aspen[/name] is a beautiful combo), but [name]Memphis[/name] just weights [name]Rosalie[/name] down. However, if it is meaningful to you and your husband than that significance may be worth more than a nice flow.

I always thought of [name]Memphis[/name] as more of a boy’s name. However, I love that its a meaningful name for you and I really do like [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Memphis[/name]. [name]Memphis[/name] works in the middle when paired with the very feminine [name]Rosalie[/name]. And it sounds great with [name]Juniper[/name]. [name]Juniper[/name] and [name]Rosalie[/name] are two of my absolute favorites

If the combo has special meaning for you, then go for it! I love [name]Rosalie[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name] together. The middle spot is the place to get a little daring and adventurous.

I don’t like [name]Rosalie[/name] at all and I don’t think it goes with [name]Memphis[/name]. I’m just tired of [name]Rose[/name] and all her variants. There are sooo many other flowers. To have one child with a daring, unconventional name like [name]Juniper[/name], I wouldn’t expect a [name]Rose[/name] name for her sibling

[name]Memphis[/name] is a great name. I don’t think of [name]Tennessee[/name]; I think of [name]Egypt[/name]. [name]Memphis[/name] is a nymph in Greek mythology, a daughter of the [name]Nile[/name]. [name]Juniper[/name] & [name]Memphis[/name] make sense

If you like [name]Romy[/name] have you considered [name]Romola[/name] or [name]Romilly[/name]?

I’m going to be the odd person out and say that I love this combo. As a complete sucker for all the [name]Rose[/name] names, the only thing I have against them is that they can sound a bit wispy and [name]Memphis[/name] for me adds that structure. There is a reason [name]Rose[/name] names have been around for such a long time (and why there are so many of them…) - they add an ethereal quality to any name. It’s a beautiful combination and as it has such meaning to you, I say go for it! Good luck!

I also love this combo. I think [name]Rosalie[/name] has beauty and spunk–and I also love place names. I think it’s a great, unique name–and if it has meaning to you–you should use it! Good luck!

I like it if [name]Memphis[/name] has meaning for you. Otherwise it does sound a little odd. But I love names that have personal meaning for people.

I like [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Memphis[/name]. I think [name]Juniper[/name] & [name]Rosalie[/name] are a great sister set, and I love [name]Rose[/name]-names. Have you considered [name]Primrose[/name]? I know it’s popular right now because of the Hunger Gamers, but [name]Juniper[/name] & [name]Primrose[/name] is a nice group too. I don’t think I would like [name]Memphis[/name] as a first name, but it the middle it works.

Hmm…
I love [name]Rosalie[/name] she’s my second favourite girl’s name after [name]Jane[/name]. [name]Rosalie[/name] just has this lovely frilly quality and feels so light, pretty and sensual. [name]Rosalie[/name] is perfect choice in my eyes and works so well with [name]Juniper[/name] as they have a similar style. I like the nickname [name]Romy[/name] as well even though the nicknames I go for are [name]Rosa[/name], [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Rosie[/name].

Still despite my love for [name]Rosalie[/name] I don’t know whether she works with [name]Memphis[/name] and to be perfectly honest I’m not sure whether I like it. Still personally I don’t think the fact that I’m unsure on [name]Memphis[/name] should stop you using it and for that matter if fellow berries dislike the name I don’t think this should stop you using it. As ultimately I think you’ll regret it.

[name]Memphis[/name] has such a personal meaning to you guys and that personal meaning shouldn’t be let go, furthermore if the personal meaning is very important to you your child will most likely cherish [name]Memphis[/name]. Like I cherish [name]Jane[/name] which is my middle name and has such a personal meaning and connects to everyone in my family so much so that it’s my favourite girl’s name at the moment. So I wouldn’t let go of [name]Memphis[/name].

But she doesn’t work with [name]Rosalie[/name]. They kinda run together in a strange way I think this is because of the endings with my British accent haha. Yet I think if you changed the ‘e’ to an ‘a’ on [name]Rosalie[/name] it would work. [name]Rosalia[/name] [name]Memphis[/name] flows a lot better and [name]Rosalia[/name] still works with [name]Juniper[/name]!

Thanks everyone! This is why these forums are so great, it makes you see names through fresh eyes and i think all of you have put into words all the reasons why i like and dislike this combination. Im so used to seeing it that i think i wasnt seeing how much of a mismatch it is if you dont know the story behind it.
