So I’m writing a story where the main character’s name is [name]Rosaline[/name]. I have been pronouncing it [name]Ros[/name]-uh-line (rhyming with [name]Madeline[/name])
However, I discovered that it’s most often said as [name]Rosa[/name]-leen or [name]Rosa[/name]-lynn.
Since this is fictional/fantasy story, I could spell it differently but I have no idea how to get the “line” sound without spelling it “line”
She does get called [name]Rose[/name] for short so maybe this doesn’t matter…
EDIT:
Noticed that pronunciation is spelled wrong in the title, sorry about that!
That’s what I thought, but on other forums I see people saying it’s “rosa-leen” so I’m just worried it’s not the common or how the majority would pronounce it.
[name]Ross[/name]-a-lynn is what I think when I see that spelling, but I think Rosealine might give you the pronunciation you want. I know that it isn’t the traditional spelling though. Good luck with your book.
I pronounce it “rose-uh-leen”. I think it might not matter about the pronounciation though, depending if you ever use her full name. If its half & half between [name]Rosaline[/name] and [name]Rose[/name], then I would consider another spelling. Or another name? [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Rose[/name]-[name]Marie[/name], [name]Rosamund[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name]…
