Roscoe

Please tell me your honest opinion on [name]Roscoe[/name]!!

It would also really help if you could tell me a bit about why you like or don’t like [name]Roscoe[/name].

(I’ve now finished making threads for each name on my list, thanks for all of the feedback guys!!)

Oh, I love it. [name]Roscoe[/name] is spunky, mischievous, and fun. It has an artistic flair to it that I really like; I imagine [name]Roscoe[/name] as a creative, easygoing guy with a great sense of humor. It’s a really cool name if you ask me.

Honest first impression: parent is trying to be creative … but at least it’s working.
(that’s without clicking the link to find out if the name has any history … and now I see that it DOES have history, so I would have been wrong)

Pros:
nice sound
sounds like a name
starts like your husbands name
Doesn’t sound similar to any other names

Cons:
unnecessary (phonetically) silent e
Unusual enough that you’d get a lot of “what was his name again?”

Use it!

Honestly, it sounds like a dog’s name. Sorry!

[name]Roscoe[/name] is an incredibly cool, quirky, classic name with a great sound and history. I absolutely love it. (I should, since it’s #3 on my own list.) I also don’t know why people have “dog” associations with [name]Roscoe[/name]; personally I’ve met about a million dogs named [name]Max[/name] and [name]Bella[/name], but nobody’s arguing those are dog names. I’ve heard the Dukes of [name]Hazzard[/name] brought up as well, but I’m in my twenties and can assure you that almost nobody from my generation will have watched that show.

People have dog associations with [name]Roscoe[/name] because it’s a very rare name on a person and is fairly common on dogs. I can tell you for a fact that I’ve never met a man named [name]Roscoe[/name] but I have known of at least a dozen dogs with the name (sorry, no source). [name]Max[/name] and [name]Bella[/name] are different because they’re commonly used for both people and dogs. However, there are some people who associate both names with dogs and not people just because it’s what they’re more familiar with. I’m in my twenties as well and grew up watching Dukes of [name]Hazzard[/name] and know a lot of people I went to school with watched it too (mostly the boys).

As for the “dog name” claim: MYTH: Certain Baby Names Must Be Avoided Because They Are “Dog Names” | Waltzing More Than Matilda

This might be a geographic issue. I grew up on the [name]East[/name] Coast and live in a city. Nobody in my circle of friends watched ‘Dukes of [name]Hazzard[/name]’ when they were kids. And again, pretty much all of the dogs I’ve met have Top 100 names…though I’ve also known several Labradors named [name]Darcy[/name]. I would never argue that it’s a dog name, though – no more than [name]Rex[/name] or [name]Daisy[/name]. We give our dogs human names, obviously. (Though Fido is probably unsalvagable.)

Here’s the Appellation Mountain spotlight on [name]Roscoe[/name]: Name of the Day: Roscoe - Appellation Mountain

People where I live started changing their names from a different spelling of [name]Roscoe[/name], to almost anything else, after a man with the last name Roszko, pronounced the same, shot and killed 4 mounties. It was/is a very big deal. I would never, ever, ever use the name for that reason. (That, and I dislike the name for style reasons, even if it wasn’t reminiscent of a very evil man)

I never said the OP cannot use it because I find it to be a dog’s name. She asked for honest opinions on [name]Roscoe[/name] and I gave her mine. To me, it sounds like a dog’s name. Period. I’m sorry if, because you like the name too, you feel offended because of my thoughts about the name.

ETA: Kibby, that’s a sad story! I can understand why they’d want to change their name!

I automatically think Dukes of [name]Hazzard[/name] but I might be an outlier compared to the general population. And then I think of my friend’s puppy.
But it is a sweet name and I do like the nickname [name]Coe[/name].

[name]Roscoe[/name] [name]Eden[/name] I think would be a nice combination! Best Wishes x

I love [name]Roscoe[/name], dog or not. There’s a town in [name]New[/name] [name]York[/name] state named [name]Roscoe[/name] and whenever I drive past it I think about how I’d love to name a baby that. Because of the town, I guess I’d say it leans a little more towards “hick” than “urban cool” for me personally but I think it’s a beautiful word and if my husband would ever agree, I’d totally go for it. A little [name]Roscoe[/name] sounds like he’d be a lively, friendly, fun-loving little guy.

I like the name [name]Roscoe[/name] a lot. Considered it myself for a period of time. I don’t associate it with dogs at all, not even slightly. And I’ve never seen Dukes of [name]Hazzard[/name], so that association is not there for me either. I just think of it as an underused gem with a slight antique feel to it.

To me it screams “fat country sheriff.” I don’t think that’s because of the Dkes of [name]Hazzard[/name] (which I, too, have never watched); rather I think the TV show tapped into the name archetype when bestowing it on the character. It has a rascally vibe which is fun, but it reads all bumpkin to me.

P Coletrain. I will never hear [name]Roscoe[/name] as anything except Dukes of [name]Hazzard[/name] or a dog’s name. I can’t believe so many of you never watched Dukes of [name]Hazzard[/name]. What did you do on Friday night in the 80’s?

I love the name [name]Roscoe[/name]. I picture it on someone who’s easygoing, relaxed, and fun-loving. And yes, I’m aware of the Dukes of [name]Hazard[/name] connection. It’s been 20+ years. We need to let it go.

I love the name [name]Roscoe[/name]. I don’t know if I would personally use it but I think it’s lovely. I only know one [name]Roscoe[/name] who is three and has an older brother called [name]Parker[/name]. [name]Parker[/name] and [name]Roscoe[/name] are one of my favourite sib-sets ever.

I like the name [name]Roscoe[/name]!

I also associate it with Dukes of [name]Hazzard[/name] and pet dogs. I’m thinking this could be a regional Southern US thing. [name]Even[/name] so, I actually like it and wouldn’t let those associations stop me from using it.
