I’m so stuck on potential baby names for our little one. I have narrowed the search down to 3 names which I think are beautiful but don’t know if they are too old fashioned/clunky.
We are after something not too overused as a first name but also not something that is too original.
I love the name Rose as a stand alone name but really don’t like it as a middle name, I feel it’s too overdone. My worries with Rose is that it’s just a bit plain too.
My grandmother was called Edith (which I don’t like) but love the NN Edie, which she went by too. We also like the name Margot - I feel it’s got a little zest to it and sounds fresh to my ears. Not keen on the spelling though but I think I could get over that!
What are your thoughts and votes on these names? Who knew naming your little ones could be so difficult!
I really like the name [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a first name. I also like [name_f]Margot[/name_f].
But it sounds like [name_f]Edie[/name_f] is the perfect name for you.
Which ever you chose, you can’t go wrong.
I love [name_f]Margot[/name_f] for you but if you don’t like the spelling there is always [name_f]Margo[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] (which is my favourite spelling!). [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Edie[/name_f] & [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] are both very nice combos but I also like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Edie[/name_f].
Yes, naming a little one is much more difficult than just thinking up names! Best of luck to you!
I absolutely adore all three names but especially [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f]! I pushed for both names when naming my daughter but my partner vetoed them sadly.
I understand your concerns about [name_f]Rose[/name_f], especially in regards to its overuse as a middle. But I think it’s quite fresh as a first and not too plain, although I’d be tempted to go with something like [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] to add some quirk to it.
Nevertheless, if it were me I’d go with either [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Edie[/name_f] or [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. [name_u]Or[/name_u], if you don’t like the [name_f]Margot[/name_f] spelling, [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] [name_f]Edie[/name_f] or [name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] (I love both spellings).
Oh, and I totally empathise with the naming struggle! I’m 5 weeks from having my second and I can’t for the life of me decide out of the three options we’ve settled on.
Thank you so much for your replies. I never thought of using [name_f]Edie[/name_f] as a middle name but the more I say Margo/Margot [name_f]Edie[/name_f] the more I love it! Our surname has 2 syllables as well so it’s got a lovely ring to it
Rose-I like just [name_f]Rose[/name_f] a lot. It’s bold & romantic, yet soft & simple at the same time. And it’s completely timeless. It’s not too over done, but ‘Rose’ names are gaining popularity. You may come across a handful of Rosies during her childhood. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]? I’m not sure if it’s avoidable or not; at least sometimes. I think it’s adorable.
Edie-I’m always pro honoring special relatives, & with that in mind this is my favorite. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I do like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] more personally. [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Edie[/name_f] sounds too cutesy on its own. I know a just [name_f]Edie[/name_f] in her 30s, & it always felt weird to me on an adult. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_u]Eden[/name_u] or [name_f]Eudora[/name_f] nn [name_f]Edie[/name_f]?
Margot-Most people seem to love it on here, but it doesn’t do much for me. It just feels a little bit clunky. But it’s a fun old fashioned feeling name. Old fashioned in a good way. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Margo[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] better? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nn Margo(t)? That’s another option.
i love [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and it seems you do too!!! a full name for [name_f]Edie[/name_f] while it still being an honor could be [name_u]Eden[/name_u] then nn [name_f]Edie[/name_f]
All three are gorgeous, you really can’t go wrong with any of them! [name_f]My[/name_f] vote goes to [name_f]Edie[/name_f] — it’s sweet, simple, not overused and has a nice tie to your grandmother.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]–Simple but lovely and spring-like. I agree with you that I prefer it as a first name, although it’s beautiful in either spot! I don’t find it plain at all (but then again, my favorite name is [name_f]Jane[/name_f] ). I think [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be really sweet choice!
[name_f]Edie[/name_f]–This is for sure my favorite from your list! I would be so thrilled to meet a little [name_f]Edie[/name_f]. It’s charming and fresh and strikes just the right balance between sweetness and strength. I think it stands on its own perfectly well. And I love that it would be an honor name for your grandma!
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]–Another great option! I personally prefer other names in this same family (I love [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Meg[/name_f], and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f], and I’m a [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] fan too!), but I can definitely appreciate the appeal of [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. I’m hesitant on it for you because of your concerns about the spelling, though. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer one of the other spelling options?
Overall, [name_f]Edie[/name_f] definitely gets my (very enthusiastic!) vote! [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would be my second pick
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] ~ I absolutely love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] she’s so gorgeous such a romantic classic with lovely connotations with the flower. I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f]! I get why you have concerns about the overuse in the middle name slot but I think as a first name it’s fresh. You could always use a [name_f]Rose[/name_f] variant like [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Tearose[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] it’s a shame [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] has been vetoed it’s beyond gorgeous. Honestly [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is lovely.
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] ~ this name feels perfect for you as she honours your grandmother which I think is definitely a plus and for me honouring loved ones is must when it comes to naming a child. [name_f]Edie[/name_f] feels fashionable definitely not clunky I think this name for you is a winner!!
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] ~ very elegant glamorous name she’s sweet feels fashionable and I do really like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] but for me I prefer [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Edie[/name_f].
