Rose Marina?

We’re considering this as an alternative to [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. I still love [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], but my [name_f]MIL[/name_f] hates it, and we’re finding it difficult to pair with a middle.

So we’ve put the lovely, simple [name_f]Rose[/name_f] on the table. I would like to get to nickname [name_u]Romy[/name_u] somehow, which leads us to M-middles.

In regards to both meaning and sound, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f] is very close to the original [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. But it breaks it up (we wouldn’t use it as a double-barreled name) and gives it a little something new. Or does it? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it works, or is it just awkward?

We’ve also considered:

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] (I don’t love the double flower names, though)
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]

[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Elain[/name_f] (Welsh for ‘fawn’) or [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Elisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] (pronounced more like [name_f]Ava[/name_f]; it works because we are of [name_m]German[/name_m] background)
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
Rosemary Carys
Rosemary Clara
Rosemary Helene

The bolded names are other one we’ve strongly considered, so we’d love feedback on those too. And further suggestions are welcome.

Guidelines: we like the E middles for [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] because of the initials R.E.W., but it’s not a necessity.

No middles starting with “A” (for initials R.A.W.), no middles ending in ‘en’ like [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] or [name_f]Helen[/name_f] (doesn’t sound right with our surname).

Generally we’d prefer to avoid another word/floral name and stick more with lovely, classic names that mean something positive (a character trait, wished-for child, joy, anything like that).

Thank you

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f] is too word names, something I’m not a fan of. You said you’d like lovely, classic names, and [name_f]Marina[/name_f] is lovely but not classic.
For the nn [name_u]Romy[/name_u], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] feels the most natural. [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] this, first day of Grade 1, and the teacher calls her name, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] W-? And she says, “here, but I go by [name_u]Romy[/name_u].” Everyone will wonder why her nn is longer than her real name, and how you got [name_u]Romy[/name_u]. Whereas if the teacher says “[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] W-?” And your daughter says, “Here, but I go by [name_u]Romy[/name_u].” That will be totally acceptable. [name_u]Romy[/name_u] is super cute! Another way to get [name_u]Romy[/name_u] would be [name_f]Romilly[/name_f]. About [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and your [name_f]MIL[/name_f], just stop talking about the name with her. Once your daughter is born and you say, “[name_f]MIL[/name_f], meet [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] E- W-, but we’re going to call her [name_u]Romy[/name_u].” She will fall in love and the name won’t matter.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] - not my style, but I like how unique [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] is. Combo sounds a bit old lady-ish though.
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] - This is ok. [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] isn’t my fave either.
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] - My favourite of the three. [name_f]Eva[/name_f] sounds much fresher than [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] gives you the nn you love.
Of the other Rosemarys, my fave combo is [name_f]Linnea[/name_f]. [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] is so unique!
Of the Roses, I like [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]. [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] is such a cool, unique name! It’s so sweet yet spunky and sounds great with [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous, but I sort of prefer [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] is incredibly unexpected, I really like that too.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering, why does your [name_f]MIL[/name_f] have so much say in what you choose to name your own child? I think [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is beautiful - it’s one of my favourites and [name_u]Romy[/name_u] is such a perfect nn (I personally find [name_f]Rose[/name_f] M___ a bit of a stretch for [name_u]Romy[/name_u]) but none of your combos really jump out at me.

[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Eira[/name_f] has been on my list before - how do you feel about that? [name_f]Eira[/name_f] is similar to a few of your others, only more unusual with classic [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], and is the Welsh word for ‘‘snow’’ (prettier than [name_f]Elain[/name_f] too, imo). It just feels perfect here.

I really like [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Eira[/name_f]! Thanks, that will go on the list.

It’s actually not that she dislikes it; it’s why-- she says she’s known four “evil” Rosemarys, and I’m a little superstitious about things like that. I consider it a good sign if a name has been worn by many admirable people, but unfortunately, the reverse makes me uncomfortable. On the other hand, I didn’t personally know any of these supposed evil Rosemarys, and I’m starting to think we may just go ahead with it. We’d call her [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] or [name_u]Romy[/name_u] pretty much all the time, anyway.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] need that perfect middle, though. None of my combos really jump out at me, either… that’s the whole problem.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f] is gorgeous. Doesn’t matter if name [name_f]Marina[/name_f] is not in steady use in USA, I find classic names as names that you take seriously, elegant, sophisticated, classy… and [name_f]Marina[/name_f] fits that description.

First of all, I love the name [name_f]Marina[/name_f]. I’ve loved it as a name for so long that I don’t think of the word at all when I see the name… unless it is paired with another word name, like [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f] just seems like the name of a marina to me.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] is far and away my favorite combo of yours for [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. Since you like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], have you considered [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Morwenna[/name_f]? I think it has such a cool vibe.

[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] has never really grabbed me. I prefer the admittely dated-sounding [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f]. Out of your [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] combos, [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Helene[/name_f] is the only one that I find really striking.

Have you considered using [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] to get [name_u]Romy[/name_u]?
You can get [name_u]Romy[/name_u] with the [name_f]Rose[/name_f] still in there.
