Rose... regret

I can’t help but have a twinge of name regret.

Our DD is [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] was not one of our top name choices along the way but popped up at the last minute (in fact, my husband loved [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] but I vetoed). But I loved the sound of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (I later learned of the book/movie and was quite disappointed by the meaning).

Anyway, I have found myself thinking about how much I love the name [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and that I wish my DH would have gone for it as a first name. I also think [name_f]Rose[/name_f] sounds better with our last name (two syllables with lots of O’s). When I hear “[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]” without “[name_f]Rose[/name_f]” I just don’t know that I love it as much, and that makes me feel awful.

I don’t really have any point here other than to wonder what others have done in this situation. It would seem so strange to suddenly decide to call her by her middle name. My DH would think I’m nuts! Should I intentionally start calling her by both her first and middle so that I feel like I can enjoy the name? Or do I just let it go?

Perhaps give her a new nickname to do with her middle name? Such as:

Rosebud
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]-flower
[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]-posy
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]-petal

That way you aren’t exactly switching to [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but can use the name you love as a private name for your daughter?

You could definitely call her [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] most of the time and then use [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a nn, I think that’s what I would do in your situation…

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a truly lovely name, I hope you can come to love it

Maybe there’s a nickname for Audrey that you like and could use it instead of her full name. She could just go by her middle name, I know lots of people like this.

[name_m]How[/name_m] old is she? I know people who have [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a mn and call their girl [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. You could start with that (or [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]) and move to [name_f]Rose[/name_f] over time so it doesn’t seem abrupt to her or others.

I know many people that go by their middle name or that one of their parents calls them by their middle name. I think it’s perfectly fine.

Firstly [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is gorgeous and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is a lovely standalone name.

I would call your daughter [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] almost like a double barrel name that would completely work. You have double barrel names like [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]-[name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f] I don’t see why [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] wouldn’t work. She’d be a perfect candidate for a double barrel combination. I love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and I think its a perfect double barrel name and you’d get to use [name_f]Rose[/name_f] without your DH thinking your loosing your mind.
