I found these today in the local birth announcements for today’s paper. Thoughts?
Roselda - I’d imagine that it’s pronounced [name]Ro[/name]-[name]ZEL[/name]-dah (can’t find a pronunciation anywhere), another variation of [name]Rose[/name]
Gloretha - Glo-RETH-ah (looked it up on babynamesworld.com), a variation of [name]Glory[/name]/[name]Gloria[/name]
Roselda was a variation of [name]Rose[/name] I’d never heard of before. Gloretha seems to be an old variation of [name]Glory[/name]/[name]Gloria[/name], I found it mentioned in a fiction book set in the Civil War era (United States civil war).
Honestly, these sound like the type of “exotic” names that I would have made up with my friends when we were playing pretend as eight-year-olds and wanted to be, like, mysterious/magical/mystical ladies. Not my cup of tea now
I find them interesting, though I’m not sure how much I like them. I would have loved them as a kid, but I’m a bit iffy for real-life names. A character, yes, but not sure about a real person.
