Rowan for a girl? Rowlan vs Rowan?

Okay, is [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a girl horrific. People I talk to say it reminds them of ‘Row: fish eggs’. Also recently I heard Rowlan/[name_m]Rowland[/name_m] and I don’t know if that is better or if it reminds me of ‘rollin’. I just want insight.

No, [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is unisex, so boy or girl it shouldn’t be an issue. I just googled the fish egg thing because I didn’t understand it, and it’s actually spelled [name_f]Roe[/name_f]. It just seems like such an obscure connection, I don’t think all that many people would think of it…

For what it’s worth, I really like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. [name_m]Rowland[/name_m] strikes me as more exclusively masculine. If you like the name, I’d stick to just [name_u]Rowan[/name_u].

I only like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a boy.

I actually like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a girl. There was a berry with daughter [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] here a long time ago, and her little girl got me adore [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a girl. No for Rowlan, though, sorry.

I’ve known two female [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]'s, and one male [name_u]Rohan[/name_u].

One of the [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]'s was the prettiest girl I’ve ever met. The other is the worst human being I’ve ever met.

Unfortunately the latter is the most recent and most prominent in my life so I can only think of her when I hear the name!

That makes me biased though. I think if I met a little baby [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] I’d love it, and [name_f]Roe[/name_f] is a cute little nickname
Rowlan looks kind of made up and is more masculine imo

I used to dislike it on a girl but I’ve since met one and now I dig it on a girl. I do prefer it on a boy, still, but I think it works for girls just fine.
Rowlan is fine but I couldn’t see that on a girl. I think it’s because it sounds quite similar to [name_u]Rylan[/name_u], and that’s another name I can only really see on a boy.

I think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is lovely on a girl, and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Blanchard[/name_m] gives the name a bit of a fresh, celebrity face for others, it makes the name a bit easier to see on a girl.
I’d use it in a heartbeat if our surname didn’t have so many similar sounds to [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] in it.

Not a fan of Rowlan/[name_m]Rowland[/name_m] though. It seems very awkward, and sounds a lot like [name_m]Roland[/name_m] to me, which I find very unattractive.

Thank you for the comments! I really do love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a girl. Rowlan/[name_m]Rowland[/name_m] wasn’t my favorite, so I just wondered what you all thought.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a girl. Had I not named my son [name_u]Owen[/name_u] it would be on my list for my girl coming in [name_u]June[/name_u].

Goodness, it’s not horrific. It is OK. I prefer it and [name_u]Roan[/name_u] for a male and love [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] for a girl, but it’s fine.

[name_u]Leslie[/name_u]

I think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (or any other spelling) is fine for a girl.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is a true unisex name. Of course it works for a girl.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is perfectly usable for either a girl or a boy. I think of the tree rather than of roe, the fish eggs. I’m not a fan of Rowlan/[name_m]Rowland[/name_m] though, which also sounds more masculine.
