I love [name_m]Rowan[/name_m]. I love [name_m]Rory[/name_m]. I don’t love [name_m]Rory[/name_m] as a stand alone name though, even though I know it’s a fully and well established full name - its always sounded nicknamey to me. So I wonder…does [name_m]Rory[/name_m] work as a nn to [name_m]Rowan[/name_m]? I noticed they both have red in their meanings, and they both have the strong RO beginning. But is it maybe still too stretchy?
I’ve toyed with [name_m]Ronnie[/name_m] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as nicknames for [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] as well, but I think [name_m]Rory[/name_m] might just be my favorite. I know [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] doesn’t NEED a nickname, I just come from a very nicknamey family and I love the idea of my future kiddos having nicknames too.
The full name on my list, and my top contender for a future daughter, is [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]. Does [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] “Rory” work?
I think it absolutely does! There’s the [name_f]Ro[/name_f]- sound from [name_m]Rowan[/name_m], and the -ree sound from [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]! But even without [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], I think that [name_m]Rory[/name_m] could work as a nn for [name_m]Rowan[/name_m]. But [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] just makes it perfect!

It would definitely work with [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] as the MN. To be fair it could work even if you changed the MN but IMO it just makes more sense with it, however I’m iffy with NN’s I need them to be easily explained & linked

Yes, it totally works (and is very charming).

[name_m]Rowan[/name_m] [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] ‘Rory’ works - I think the ‘rie’ ending helps - plus, if you take the [name_f]Irish[/name_f] meaning, Rowan/Rory share that “red” meaning

Personally I’ve never liked Rory, it’s kind of a mouthful, hard to say. It reminds me of Scooby Doo trying to name someone lol.
Rowan is cute. If go with Win for a nickname, double barrel it or give her initials that work as a nickname.
